[REL] Keep Calm - "Keep Calm...I am a Police Officer"

Featured Replies

So we've all had it happen. A traffic stop subject has an outstanding warrant, or we need to arrest a suspect at the end of a pursuit. So we get them out of the car, and aim our sidearm at the suspect. Then it happens.

All hell breaks loose.

Cars hitting anything that moves. Officers shooting at random civilian vehicles. Pigs flying through the air.

Enter an effort to put an end to all of this.

This is an experimental feature of my Traffic Control mod, but I have separated it into a different plugin, and tried to make the code as stable as possible. This plugin runs in the background, and continuously tries to keep the people of Los Santos calm, so that they don't instantly have a panic attack at the sight of a police officer making an arrest. And for those wondering, yes, this feature is now separated from Traffic Control, so it will be removed from that plugin in the next update.

Unfortunately, it is not 100% working. GTA V does not always provide access to every pedestrian and vehicle in the area, and some peds may spawn AFTER the "calming" function has already been triggered. It runs in the background continuously, but each ped has to be modified individually, and if a new ped spawns, he won't be "calmed" until the next pass.

As a result, some drivers and pedestrians may still panic in the event of gunfire. This may improve as new versions of the RAGE Plugin Hook are released.

This plugin has been released as a public beta test, and is intended to minimize the panic attacks experienced by the AI.

The panic attacks will NOT be eliminated completely, however, this plugin should hopefully minimize them enough to make the game more enjoyable. The main intent with this plugin is to not have drivers run officers over when they are in the middle of making an arrest after a pursuit. I decided to release it in an effort to allow other players to at least reap SOME benefit.

Enjoy, and please report any bugs or crashes!

good work! I'll try this after Ragehook updates.

Thanks! Let me know how it works out!

RAGE is actually improving some of the vehicle detection in an upcoming update. I am not sure if its this next one or not, but I remember reading something about it.

Hopefully this will at least minimize this happening as much as possible.

I have had some lag issues with this mod, disabled it and the frame stutters stopped. Other than that great mod! Also would like to see the civs still get scared but not run. When I'm shooting and people are acting like I'm not there. Love the mod! Keep up the good work!

Can confirm, turning off the plugin resolves some lag issues.

There is a discussion going on in the Comments section of the download page. I am definitely aware of the freezing issues that have cropped up.

I just posted the following comment on the download page regarding my thoughts on the issue. I'll be sure to post an update once I have had a chance to modify the code and test again.

I'll see if there is anything that can be done from a code standpoint. But I have a feeling that most of these freezing issues stem from the changes Rockstar made in the 393 update.

I deliberately have not updated to 393 yet, just because of the issues I have been reading about. I do not have the Steam version, so I just turn off the wifi adapter before starting GTA. The game starts up in Offline Mode, no update.

I imagine you could do something similar with the Steam version, but it sucks for those that wish to play online as well. Personally, I bought GTA V when I found it on sale, solely for the purpose of playing LSPDFR. So I have zero issues with not updating my install.

It sounds like the lag and framerate issues are appearing in vanilla installs of GTA V as well, with people who have no mods installed at all. So it appears that Rockstar's changes may have had an undesired effect on performance across the board.

If that's the case, I would expect another update coming relatively soon. Until then, I'm sticking to build 372.

But again, I will definitely see if there is anything I can do...I have a couple of ideas that I can try. When I have another version for you guys to play around with, I will definitely upload it.

I agree, I tried this and I got intermittent lag until I turned it off.

I agree, I tried this and I got intermittent lag until I turned it off.

As I have mentioned, I am working on it. But the investigation work I have done so far leads me to believe that this problem stems from Rockstar's latest update, build 393, AKA Ill Gotten Gains Part 2.

I am looking at what I can do from a code standpoint to fix the lag issues.

Also would like to see the civs still get scared but not run. When I'm shooting and people are acting like I'm not there.

Unfortunately, GTA doesn't offer any customization in regards to the ped reactions. Its an all-or-nothing sort of deal. Either they panic and run scared, destroying anything in their path if they are in a vehicle, or they ignore danger that happens around them. Some drivers do seem to drive off in a calm manner though.

there's also that paranoid "look over their shoulder, fast-walk away - is he coming for me? YES HE IS I'MA GTFO *sprints*" reaction for the pedestrians. i honestly don't know to which extent one can determine those reactions, it seems to be pretty difficult, but i suppose that would be a nice alternative between the 2 extremes.

npc driver ai seems really dumbed down though.

Version 0.5.0 has been released.

I did not have a chance to give this to anyone for testing, which is something that I wanted to do, in an ideal world.

However, the version you guys have had up until now has not been usable at all, ever since v393.2 of GTA V was released. I wanted to get a fix to you guys ASAP.

Fingers crossed, this should fix all of the freezing issues. In the testing I have done, I have not had any freezing at all in v393.2. Please note that I do not yet have the v393.4 update, so it has NOT been tested with the newest update.

But from what I have read, that update removes a good portion of the "junk" code from the last update, so performance should be improved.

Let me know if there are any issues.

Enjoy!!

Version 0.5.1 has been released. This version of Keep Calm ignores pedestrians on foot, imposing the "calming" effect only on peds that are in a vehicle.

This is to minimize interference with callout plugins for LSPDFR.

So, just a general update here...

Some of you may have noticed that I updated both Code 3 Callouts (v0.3) and Traffic Control (v0.5) today. In this mini-barrage of updates, there was also supposed to be version 0.6 of Keep Calm. Unfortunately, it was not working as well as I had hoped in testing, so the release has been delayed.

Keep Calm in general has been very hit-and-miss ever since Build 393 of GTA V was first released. The issues which were limited in Build 372, are a lot more obvious in Build 393.

As such, there is a possibility that this mod may be abandoned/discontinued in it's current state, albeit still available for people to download and use.

I still want to do some digging to see if there is another way to fix things. Now that Code 3 Callouts and Traffic Control have been updated, my focus can turn to Keep Calm for the moment.

If any developers are reading this (namely LMS, Luke, FinKone, or Stray), I may contact you a couple of you guys about something.

Stay tuned.

VERSION 0.7.0 HAS BEEN RELEASED!

  • The mechanics of Keep Calm have been re-built from the ground up
  • Keep Calm v0.7.0 requires RPH v0.24!
  • Peds driving a vehicle will still scream and be somewhat affected by gunfire, but they drive off in a controlled manner
  • Peds on foot are still ignored by Keep Calm; I hope to improve on this in a future update, but I wanted to focus on drivers first
  • NOTE: Keep Calm now relies on the Stealth.Common DLL included with Traffic Control and Code 3 Callouts
    • Keep Calm 0.7.0 is packaged with v1.3.0 of the Stealth.Common DLL
      • This version is NOT compatible with Code 3 Callouts v0.3.0 or earlier; Code 3 Callouts must be upgraded to v0.4.0, which was just released today (Sept 9, 2015)
      • Traffic Control v0.5.0 is compatible with v1.3.0 of the Stealth.Common DLL

IMPORTANT NOTICE: VERSION 0.7.0 HAS BEEN REMOVED!

Due to a massive oversight on my part, Keep Calm v0.7.0 has a strange bug where suspects in a pursuit are "calmed", and thus, drive away from the police like they are on a Sunday picnic. While somewhat hilarious, this bug obviously takes away from the realism of LSPDFR. I would like to offer my sincere apologies for this error...I never felt the need to test pursuits, because I never thought they would be affected!

I have decided, therefore, to remove the download file for v0.7.0 until this issue can be fixed. I have tried a couple of things already, but this bug is proving to be a difficult one to nail down.

Please stand by for a further update. In the meantime, Keep Calm has now been rolled back to v0.5.1.

For now, please ignore the parts of the file description that say you require Stealth.Common.dll and RPH v0.24. These are NOT required for Keep Calm 0.5.1.

VERSION 0.7.1 HAS BEEN RELEASED!!

  • The 'slow pursuit' bug has been fixed!! Credit/kudos to @LMS for helping me with this issue.
  • This version requires at least RPH v0.24, and the packaged Stealth.Common DLL (compatible with the current versions of Code 3 Callouts and Traffic Control)
  • Many thanks to Jeff Favignano, alexguirre, DemNinjas, and DCP1293 for testing this version for me!

  • ** IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE ENTITY PERSISTENCE MOD!! **
    • If you use the Entity Persistence mod by FtDLulz, you need to do ONE of two things...
      • If ped persistence is enabled, ensure that it is set to only 'persist' dead peds, not live ones (this is the default setting, to my knowledge)
      • OR...Disable ped persistence entirely
    • If ped persistence is enabled, and set to 'persist' LIVE peds, then Keep Calm will have NO effect at all!! (Not to mention that you will have performance issues if you do that!) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Is it weird I actually like the slow pursuits? Allows me to do it more realistically.

Yeah, but then the suspect makes no attempt to get away, even if there is no traffic in front of him. He just drives around at a leisurely pace, as if nothing is going on.

Just a quick update, for those that missed this post in the comments thread of Keep Calm...

I have taken the time to completely re-write Keep Calm from scratch. I have been using it while testing the latest builds of ALPR+, and it seems to be working.

It will be undergoing some further testing, and if (and I mean IF!) everything goes well, and there are no bugs, it should be released in a week or so.
