Creating Realistic Police Cars

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new to GTA IV modeling, and am starting to put together cars using Zmodeler. as in doing this I am wondering where i can find good resources on what equipment certain police departments use on their vehicles. Any help at all would be very appreciated. Thanks

Your best bets are flickr.com and youtube. I use flickr to get HQ pics of the cars I'm making and I check their patterns on YT videos. This means a lot of research before I do any actual work on the car. Also be on a lookout for fake cop cars. There are a lot of police cars that are only used in movies. To find out what equipment they use, you are just gonna have to compare pictures. Big names in police equipment manufactures are Federal Signal, Whelen and Code 3, but there are several others.

To add to what Lt. Kanyo said, your're not gonna find many pictures of the interior for each department's cars. The basic equipment for most cars is a console, partition, maybe gun racks, laptop, sometimes a radar and etc.

Thank you BlackJesus1 and Sgt.kanyo for your guy's help. I'll check out those sites, and thanks for letting me know what to put inside the vehicles!

Good luck with it.  I want to try my hand at modelling but don't have the time to devote to it currently.

If I do jump into it, will see how welcoming GTA V will be.

Flickr can be really good though the search isn't reliable.

There is a picture of the interior from my city's Valor Charger.  Posted back in Sept and I only found it a week ago from looking at a different picture.

Pinterest surprisingly has some amazing picture resources for various things. No idea about emergency vehicles and the downside is you have to be registered.

My Tips are to Look up Certain Department Facebook Pages most Departments show their new Cars off on the Facebook and Twitter Pages, Either that or you see them in the background of certain events where pictures are taken and posted, Also Look up News Channels in the Area of a Certain Department A lot of News channels use B-Roll Footage of the Police cars on scene while they talk about what happened that involved the Police..

Hope this helps

To add to what Lt. Kanyo said,

congrats on the promotion!

Back on topic, Flickr is a very good source for pictures as the others have said, thats what i use most of the time

Sites like copcardotcom and policecarwebsite can be good, crime scene photos can also be very useful, if you find a image of your car on flickr, take a look at that person's photostream as most of the time they'll have similar photos. Always remember that you can reverse image search on google and if your really desperate and don't mind torturing yourself go onto youtube and browse the "worldstarhiphop videos filmed in portrait mode" of your department. Good luck, if your really trying to be ultra-realistic (like trying to get the accuracy of your skins down to individual pixels) you'll find that your spending more time researching then actual working on the model/textures.
