Saying that you don't really give a f*ck as you did earlier is quite close-minded in my opinion and thus doesn't really help the whole thing.

I didn't say that I don't give a fuck for the sake of just not giving one. I said that I don't give a fuck if you dislike my opinion, because the purpose of an opinion isn't for popularity.

I do understand that, but then what is the point to open a debate if you will most likely never change your mind on the question, no matter the arguments people are throwing on the table? It's quite a waste of time, isn't it?

You people make me sick, LGBT people are humans just like the rest of you people, I hate it when people say "well i disagree with homosexuality because of this this and that" like seriously? At the very least show some support or sympathy, people of different sexually DESERVE equal rights just the rest of you.

As for the topic, guys please remain calm, I don't want this topic closed.

Well first I want to address what I've bolded, because I think it's quite funny. Sitting here on a forum about a policing mod for GTA 4 and debating gay marriage is a huge waste of time actually, but why do we do it and why do we care? Talking to complete strangers that we don't know across the internet is a huge waste of time, because in a matter of time you won't ever see them again, but why do we do it?

I debate because I am interested in hearing the opposing party. I am interested in hearing what the "other side" has to say on the issue. I'm willing to be open-minded on a heated discussion, and a lot of people don't get that here.

He has no belief. He can't establish or explain anything about his own thoughts or opinions. It would be a different story if he gave a bit of information regarding where he stands on the matter.

To say, "I don't like something because I am Christian." is insane. Not to mention, this is an issue where everyone should be on the same page. It's about human decency. No human should be subjected to torture or "forced therapy" simply because of having non-heterosexual desires.

Well, that's a problem for the two of you, and not me. But, instead of instantly calling him close minded and getting offensive, you could've asked him for more information to back up his beliefs. I know, it's sometimes hard to keep a level head when things get heated, but the least anyone can do is be polite about it. I know this only applies to an extent.

I would say something about this, but since I have the unpopular opinion, I would be automatically invalidated.

Even though you have the unpopular opinion, I'd like to ask you a question. Why would you let another human being be tortured both physically and mentally? Put aside their potentially different sexuality, and consider them as human beings, because that's what they are. Even though you believe in a religion that comdemns homosexuality, they are not any less human. So why would you let someone equal to you being tortured? What if you were the one being tortured for having a kink that not everyone has, and people would let it happen to you just because they disagree with you?

You sir, I have a question for you, lets think of a hypothetical situation. Lets say you're a student and there is three gay people in your class, if they're struggling to do work and with class in general, would you sympathize and help them?

Yes, I would. I go to a Catholic school and I know of one gay person. I don't know him personally, but I have no problem with it whatsoever. If he needed help, I would help.

*disclaimer* I'm not replying to any one particular forum member with this post, just a line of thought I've seen throughout this thread.

I think everyone here would condemn anything considered abusive, be it on moral grounds, religious grounds, any kind of reasoning. I think we can all agree that the practices undertaken by conversion therapy providers can be considered abusive physically, psychologically, and emotionally. If someone doesn't think so, could you explain why you don't consider it a form of abuse? Anyway, my point is the following: If we all condemn abuse, for whatever reason, and we agree that conversion therapy is highly abusive, what explanation can be given for refusing to sign onto such a proposal? And I don't mean reasons like White House petitions are really worthless (believe me, I know they have little legislative value) or that you didn't feel like filling out, but a substantive reason as to why you would refuse to actively condemn something you know is harmful? The question I'm raising isn't even really about this petition per se, rather the underlying principle of the matter.

edit: If your response is that you have a problem with homosexuality or transgender people, I don't see how this is relevant. Abuse is abuse. Not to mention that we've already had that circlejerk, you can read it here. Let's not revive that disaster.

Before this thread goes to shit, everyone should just get over themselves & get their heads out of your asses, come on now..

No one gives a fuck your gay

No one gives a fuck you don't support gay people

No one gives a fuck your Christian

No one gives a fuck your Jewish

I don't give fuck if anyones butt hurt.

Everyone here is getting mad because of the difference in opinion, maybe I'm just the realist here, but who cares?

You're on a board titled "Politics, Current Events, and Society." What exactly were you expecting?

People have opinions because this is a serious matter. Someone killed themselves over this practice. She isn't the only one and I guarantee you she won't be the last.

People can opinions on this as much as they want, doesn't make any of them right either, does it?

I personally don't see any problem whatsoever with opinions, but it does start to bug me when people start to argue about why theres is right, when in reality, who cares?

Actually not, I personally am quite annoyed to witness human beings agreeing to torture other human beings. If it was in middle east, most people would yell "It's outrageous" and would want to bomb the authors. But there, half of people are completely fine with it, even though the result is the same, psychological and physical suffering, sometimes killing the person subject to those "therapies". That's what is not going well.

I dont get why people have such a big problem with some if their not heterosexual. Even if their Demi/Asexual some people still have a problem with it.

WE CAN'T help who we love. These 'therapy things' are changing what some one is, they are making them another person because the person they are, are deemed 'not right'

IT doesn't matter if their: homosexual, Asexual, Demisexual, Transsexual, Bisexual, Pansexual, hell even genderfuild, if it's deemed 'different' their going to change you.

Closed minded people need to think and walk a mile in their shoes, and before anyone says ANYTHING about some like 'I will never fall for a guy' or "i'l never fall for a girl (for those female members) look up what Demisexual and Demiromantic are.

I just hate it why there are other people stopping someone from being how they are, regardless of what it is

I don't think refusing to try a same sex relationship is closed minded. If someone knows what they like and what they don't, you can't expect them to try something else.
