2 Versions of GTA

Featured Replies

I've heard you can have 2 copies of GTA 4 with differennt mods. I'm going to attempt this. I just have 1 question, how do you direct OpenIV, SparkIV, and IVaud to the correct place? I know you can't have 2 versions of OpenIV. But I'm not sure about the rest.

IIRC, you just use OpenIV's "Open" button to open IMG files from all versions of the game but the primary one (i.e. the one installed with the installer, which is in the Registry as where the game is). It's kind of annoying, but that's the best way I know of to do it (other than having one copy be IV and one be EFLC).

The 2 moderators posting above have given the answer.  Spark IV works the same that you can hit the "Open" button to browse to the other folders you are modding.

I don't understand your question about having 2 instances of the application.  Because you will be editing and playtesting one version at a time right?

-Another way to do it is just rename the folder you want to work on.  (it isn't any easier or better,  just different)

The "GTAIV" folder is the one that launches when you play and also Spark IV defaults for editing.

So for example, I have a city and a state police pack set up.  I would rename the folders to GTAIV-city & GTAIV-state.  Make sure to remove the "dash" and the description from the folder you want to play.  The folder has to be "GTAIV" or the game will not load.

If I feel like changing some vehicles in my state police pack,  I would rename it to "GTAIV".  When you open Spark IV, it will automatically load that for me to edit.  Once i'm done editing,  it is the default folder and I can jump in right away to test the changes in game.

Just an alternative,  whatever floats your LCPDFR boat.

I actually created batch files for launching one of my two installations, and run the game by running one of those (depending on which one I want to run). This one will launch my EFLC that is heavily modded by renaming the current EFLC to "EFLC LESS MODS" and "EFLC LCPDFR" (modded folder) to "EFLC". If "EFLC LESS MODS" already exists, then it means the folders are already setup to run this version; the cmd won't be able to rename the folders, so it will skip that part.

F:
cd "F:EFLC"
ren "EFLC" "EFLC LESS MODS"
ren "EFLC LCPDFR" "EFLC"
cd "F:EFLCEFLC"
start LaunchEFLC.exe

This one is the same, but for running the less modded version (really just no car mods and less scripts, mainly for testing or if I feel like using the default cars)

F:
cd "F:EFLC"
ren "EFLC" "EFLC LCPDFR"
ren "EFLC LESS MODS" "EFLC"
cd "F:EFLCEFLC"
start LaunchEFLC.exe

If I want to use SparkIV or OpenIV on a specific installation, I will run the batch file for that installation and cancel the log in screen for the game.

Edit: I should specify that I have my EFLC installed on a different hard drive, so the first "EFLC" in the directory would be called "Rockstar Games" for the default location.

I have like 5 different GTA IV folders, each has different mods, and ENB's. I just rename them to anything other than Grand Theft Auto IV, mainly referring to which ENB is installed on that copy of GTA.

Also you will only be able to use open iv on the original GTA IV copy, all the others you must use spark iv to install mods!
