War Thunder

Featured Replies

As the other War Thunder topic has been dead for a long time now, I felt the need to create a brand new one. War Thunder has also come a long way since August last year, making the other topic fairly irrelevant.

So, what is this War Thunder you speak of? War Thunder is a free to play multiplayer military game set around World War II where the player either takes control of aircraft or tanks (or both).

Ground Forces are a fairly new addition to War Thunder and as of patch 1.43 there are only German and Russian tanks to choose from. It is expected that patch 1.45, which will feature American tanks, is to be released in the next few weeks. Though the game originally released in late 2012, it is constantly being updated with new features and bug fixes.

Does anyone else here play War Thunder? And if not, are you interested in it? I'm super excited for patch 1.45 as I can't wait to drive the Sherman tanks!

I've really gotten into the ground forces and recently I unlocked the Tiger tank. Below is a very short video of one of the first encounters I had while driving the tank.

The only thing that is a real issue now is battle ranks. Why they felt the need to introduce tiers and battle ranks I don't know. They essentially mean you could end up in a tier 4 game in your tier 2

  • When you are in a battle, someone is playing tanks while someone is playing airplanes   For example, soviet airplanes and soviet tanks work with each other against american airplanes and tanks.

Never played but have heard of it. The tank gameplay reminds me of World of Tanks, which I played on the 360.

It's very different to World of Tanks in the way vehicles are destroyed and such. In World of Tanks, you just slap the highest penetration gun on your tank and you win. In War Thunder, there's actually realistic physics behind the shells you fire and if you have too much penetration, your shell will just fly in one side and out the other doing minimal damage. There's actually shell fragmentation too, which you can see in the 1.43 video I linked at about 1:30.

This looks really cool. I enjoy a good looking WWII game, and I think I will have to give this a try.

Definitely, it's a lot of fun. It can be a bit of a grind sometimes (you have to expect that with a F2P though) but it's a whole lot of fun. Hit me up if you ever want to play together.

Well it looks good graphically, so when I get a GTX 680 I'll download it. Real physics you say, that is a lot of detail on ground vehicles on a game that focuses on aerial combat. It seems that on here you need to be a lot more skillfull with what shells you use instead of getting the most powerful gun, needing a balance between having enough power to take out another tank but not too much that your shell goes through them, I look forward to getting this

I played War Thunder a lot, I stopped playing it however because it seems to me they are just doing things WarGaming.net is doing but just making it work in one game. I was impressed with the way War Thunder was designed though, I played World of War planes when it was in Beta and although it was a Beta it was nowhere near the level of War Thunder.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

I used to play it A LOT and managed to unlock the Rank 19-20 jets. I really loved playing historic battles, however I haven't played it for a long time due to my rage on the recent updates. Can't remember but I believe the last update I enjoyed was 1.39? Something like that... When the game (IMO) was still enjoyable.

Ground forces is a blast, I'm having more fun with it then I ever did the planes. I'm still a newbie in the Tiger but it seems to get work done, provided you angle the armour. I'm going to be going the American tank line now as it was just released, so I'm not going to be playing the Tiger much.

true :/

Looks very awesome. Maybe I'll check it out...

it is a great game, add me on steam and maybe we can play together. SlipsshodLAKER or gallb18 is my steam name. They even plan to eventually add playable warships to the game.

have this problem all the time. Since I focus on planes when I want to play a tank battle I've got tier one tanks and I'm versing high tier two tanks and maybe some tier threes.

yes but gaijin have been making plane war games since the late 90's. So really they got the idea from wargaming.net but the game is very based off their previous game birds of steel and il-2 sturmovik battle of dover. They even have the same soundtracks and menu's.

I goddamn love this game. Can't really get into the American tank tree just yet, so I'll be using my Soviet tanks. Working on my first Tier 3 right now :)
