I am getting a computer but should it have Windows 7 or 8

I'd say get 7, a friend of mine tells me 8 is more bloated than 7 (though he refuses to answer how)

Try Windows 8 first; if you already have the extra copy of 7 Pro, it's not like you save money by putting it on right away. If you don't like 8 after a few weeks (to allow time to adjust), go back to 7.

Not a bad idea. Ill try it!

I have used windows 8 for over a year now and the way I fix my computer looking like a smartphone is I click on the desktop icon. Problem solved, I can do anything and everything I have ever needed to do with out using the windows 8 start menu. I personally find it kind of handy sometimes, because if I were talking to a friend and were making plans for later and I wanted to check the weather I just pull up the start menu and click the weather icon which takes like 2 seconds. After using it for so long I prefer windows 8, and all my games old and new run perfectly fine. If its to old throw that sucker in compatibility mode for what ever operating system it needs and it will run just fine.

I have Win 8 on my laptop.

It happens when I play older games, not designed for win8. Those messege pop-ups will stack many times. On some games, the program keeps going back to the desktop like every 30sec while it's still running, probably because of the pop-ups from Cyberlink. The "latter" pisses me off.

Well I dont know why... I don't have a single problem. People bitch about 8, but I'm just sitting here like "Bruh?" because I have all the same features as I did with 7

I'll defend Windows 8. I have a dual boot system, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 for 2 years now.

I've used Windows 8 for years now and I love it. Windows 8 is more visually polished (Visuals aren't why you should buy a OS though) and is significantly faster, especially with SSDs (Newer software supports newer hardware better).

Obviously, do not use the Metro version. People say "don't use windows 8, it's for smartphones" like one earlier comment, which is obviously a true statement, but only applies to the metro UI. Install a free start button and you basically have a faster, longer supported, more polished version of Windows 7. (Microsoft is discontinuing Windows 7 support sometime in 2015, which means some companies will refuse to help you if you're using outdated versions).

Just picked up a new gaming rig today with Win8 and so far I really like the new interface, which you can also switch to the familiar Desktop.  Not certain yet, although I'm sure Win8 runs all new games without issue.  Haven't jumped into anything yet as I'm still downloading GTAIV and EFLC, although I'm almost done DLing ARMA3, which I'm really excited to try out on my (also new and very slim) 25" LCD backlit HP monitor.

Windows 8 seems fast and efficient far as I can tell, and browsing websites and emails using the weird Win8 Interface (is it called the Start Page or something) is really nice, as I can bounce between pages quickly with the visual menu.  Like a previous posted stated, you could be looking at a vacation destination, and while still on the vacation webpage with one click you're back to the main start page looking at the weather or calendar, etc., saves time and clicks.  Still getting use to the various menus and whatnot though as I've been messing with it for only a few hours.

Going to have to get use to it anyhow, so may as well jump into it now.  Windows 7 is getting old.

Good luck!

I got windows 8.1 and I downloaded a thingy to replace the metro screen with traditional W7 start menu. So far I like it very much.

My grandfather bought me a computer for a steal.

Dell XPS 8700

Intel Core i7

4Gb of Nvidia graphics.

Windows 8.1 Professional

16gb ram

1tb hdd

It might not be the best but it was a surprise.

It seems like an enormous controversy between 7 or 8. I guess ill play around with it and see how I like it. Also how is GTA IV with 8.1?
