Installing GTA4: Download from steam, or use GTA4 CDs?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've almost got my PC together, and was wondering what you guys recommend. Should I download GTAIV off steam, or should I use the actual game disc I have from when I bought it a year or two ago? I would imagine that the steam version has the latest version of the game, if that even applies?

I prefer steam....automatically updates it to 1.0.7.0 and stores all your games in your library so no need to go look for a disk just make sure you back up your files.

Thanks Boozer, helpful as always

It all depends on you.

There isn't much difference, if any.

If you use Steam as a Social Gaming account, you could download it from Steam. You can also get Steam to recognize the CD version (thru Add a Non-Steam game), although you might run into some problems.

Both Steam & CD version give the latest version of the game.

EDIT: One other thing I just remembered.

I'm not sure if in Steam version it's easy or not, but with CD version (which I have) it's real easy to make different versions of the game (just Copy/Paste the entire GTA:IV folder).

I've got many versions of GTA:IV on my HDD;   a default CD v1.0.0.1,  a unmodded/untouched v1.0.7.0, a barebones modded, a LCPD:FR, LCPD:FR with Graphics, normal with Graphics, & a version with almost all vehicles modded.  Easy to keep everything seperate & reduce possibility of conflicts.

For the possible CD loosing, there's a No-CD fix on the net that I use :D    (of course, you'll still need the CD if you want to install in another PC or format your PC)

You can do this with the Steam version.
