Building your own is easy, think of it like building with expensive legos. There are several videos on Youtube that can help you like these:

There's no need to be so harsh. Just because he has high specs doesn't mean he's trying to brag, he may just want advice.   Please try to keep this a friendly and welcoming environment.

  • To be brutally honest; it's a laptop shoved into a slim tower with an Alienware badge on the front. You overpaid and the PC isn't up-gradable. It will probably handle GTA IV okay, games coming out in

Complete garbage, just build your own. It will be the best decision you have ever made.

The link is broken.

See by building i thought it meant saving and really im only saving 30 bucks so whats the point if any of yall can get it down to 600 to 700 itll be great

You could just buy the parts, and I'm willing to bet a local computer shop would build it for you if you pay them, if you really don't want to assemble it.

That's probably the route I would go myself, since I don't have the patience for building computers and I'm not the most experienced.

I can tell you for a fact that most computer shops would do this for you. One of the videos someone posted on this topic, which has a guy named Carey Holzman in it, he actually runs a computer shop business himself, and does builds for people. That's just an example, i'm sure more local businesses would offer the same service, but there would be a labour fee.

Just follow instructions on how to build one & you'll be fine, I rebuilt the one I have now by myself in about 2 hours as I've never done it before, ask for pointers at the computer shop but don't let them "recommend" spending $100.00 to build it for you when you can do it yourself for nothing or "Well, you will need Windows 7 & we don't recommend someone installing it that's never done it before" just a money grab.

I am unclear on what your budget is, the build I suggested will absolutely destroy the pre-built one you want for the same exact price. Here is one for $722.89 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4hVK23

Here is one more build for $590.90 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9dK9t6 . The $600 build should be able to run GTA IV on medium to high with LCPDFR, the $700 should be able to run the game on high to very high with LCPDFR. If you would like to be able to run games other than GTA IV at medium to high settings you would want to go with the build I originally posted, if not the $700 build is still ok for some games. Lets just say you want be playing Cysis on Ultra.

To be brutally honest; it's a laptop shoved into a slim tower with an Alienware badge on the front. You overpaid and the PC isn't up-gradable. It will probably handle GTA IV okay, games coming out in the next couple of years, including GTA V are questionable when it comes to detail levels. GTA IV is a terrible PC port, I'm not betting on GTA V being handled any better when it comes to hardware optimization.

That's my honest assessment based on my many years of PC hardware and software experience. In any case, congratulations on the new PC, and I wish you luck.

GTA IV was made in 2008. GTA V was made in 2014, and the PC version comes out in late 2014. Not to be vivid, (If that's the word im looking for) but I think R* is smart enough to get a better port. Although I do agree, you can have a $10,000 Titan and still have freezes in GTA IV.

It is very simple to build one, I built 2 of them in earlier years. Now I have a monster of a machine put together by me and my best friend. Although, just saying you could buy a built PC on ebay or something. I'd be sure to check if the specs are correspondent with the price tag. Cheers.

Grand Theft Auto IV was developed during the years leading up to 2008. I'd estimate 2004-2008 because that's after San Andreas was launched.  Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013, not 2014, and development likely started on or around the time Episodes From Liberty City was released since it is the biggest, most complex game they've ever made by a mile. The PC ports of GTA III through San Andreas were decent, but not great. More stable with mods, at least. GTA IV was a terrible port and they didn't have much in the way of excuses as to why performance was so poor and why they didn't offer FSAA.

You severely underestimate the incompetence and lack of caring from video game publishers. Development teams can do anything they set their minds to. Publishers are the ones that dictate what they want done and by what release date. Most publishers today pump out crappy port after crappy port, and these are big companies with the money and programmer resources to do better. This includes Ubisoft, EA, Microsoft, Square Enix - Eidos, THQ (now defunct), Bethesda and many, many, many more. The PC community is fortunate to get a Windows release of this game at all, never mind whether it's going to be done properly or not. Only time will tell what this port turns out to be, but if the development of it started on or just shortly before its official announcement, we're going to get a shit game. If development work started back when the open hiring position at Rockstar for PC games was up, chances are enough care was taken to give us a decent looking game that won't kill performance.

Nobody is talking about "freezes" in GTA IV when referring to the PC versions poor quality. It revolves around performance and lack of features. There was no anti-aliasing, and the frame rate compared to the graphical quality was and still is inexcusable. When complaints first came up, Rockstar shrugged it off saying that the highest settings were reserved for "future hardware that doesn't exist yet". And as complaints continued, they then issued a statement saying that "Even on Medium settings the game you get has better detail than the console versions." and that we should be content with that. Those are poor excuses for lazy programming and lack of optimization for hardware that easily trumps those of the previous generation consoles. Those were the issues in December 2008 forward, and they will once again be issues later this year if Rockstar didn't pay attention.
