'Freval' error fix progress?

Featured Replies

To start off, I've read the guidelines and its mentioned that the 'freval' error is being looked into. But, I just want to know if any progress has been made to fix this. I've got the hotfix, which does indeed reduce quite a few bugs, but just can't prevent crashes. Very, very sorry if I shouldn't be posting this but I just have to know. Thanks.

*Admins, feel free to move this topic if its in the wrong place.

Yes I will admit I am quite anxious as well. The freval crash is definitley being looked into by the staff as it has been noted on the 'known issues' thread. I used the manual installation and the hotfix, how ever the game crashes quite frequently, rendering the mod quite unplayable at the moment. Im not sure if anyone has had a solid playthough with no crashing. I feel it happens everytime 'a unit is on the way' script is called. Thats where my crashes happen majority of the time.

Cant wait till they fix it up because 1.0 is an incredible upgrade from the previous versions. 1.0 is just so damn fun.

Yeah. For me it just crashes randomly whenever it likes. Still a great mod though!

Ineseri, I always use manual install.

I usually try to aim for 24 game hour shifts. I have had more often than not been capable of doing this lately. Of course, one area I notice crashing is when the bouncer at the strip club in Bohan starts to shoot and you try to detail/kill him (which is troublesome as he seems to respond to any gunshot within a 1000 ft radius of the damn club, and seems to REALLY take it out on your character). It seems to crash the game for me.

Other than that, been working fine for me, aside from at least 3/4 of the calls I get going code 4 (being told to "Disregard") when I accept them, which I'm not sure is intended behavior or not.

It is FAR better than what I had in 0.95RC2, when the only call I had was the same domestic call along with the ocassional suicide attempt call (which never worked well.) If I have any other issues, I feel it is more related to GTA IV being itself rather than anything else. Another thing I have observed, and it is commonly noted is the more you try using the mod on your game, the more stable the mod's behavior becomes (again, GTA IV being itself.) Of course, I guess there are still quite a few people with issues, so perhaps another hotpatch will be released and that should take care of almost all the cases of random crashing.

Do you have a legal copy of the game? Sometimes using a crack can cause errors.

Yeah, it is a legal copy, got it through Steam. As I said, more often than not, the game and mod is pretty stable now on my machine with some exceptions, just being told to disregard calls more often than being told to report to calls that I accept.

I might start another thread to see if the bouncer ped is causing issues with other folks if I run into it again. I haven't noticed any issues with him lately, but had at least 2 or 3 instances earlier around the time hotpatch came out where it did seem to crash the game, but then again, haven't fired a shot near that club to make him come out shooting lately in the first place.

I'd say standby for another fix, or live with the crash sadly :/

Indeed. As they noted the freval crash before, its most likely top priority to them if you ask me. Whats happening is that the game is pretty much spawning a null object. They said they were going to fix it with preloading all models to prevent that. Hopefully soon we will get some info or an update. Cant wait though.

I have not had that many crashes,  though a new one i've never seen before kicked me out yesterday.

I'm going to sit tight because it works well most of the time.

Curious about the messages in LCPDFR.txt  =>  "REPORT THIS ISSUE AT LCPDFR.COM BY INCLUDING THIS LOGFILE."

Is it just generic message or will it help a specific problem?

I have a lot of the Freval errors as well and for me adding the PreloadAllModels=True to the [Main] section in the LCPDFR ini file really helped to stabilize my game immensely. Since I added it I actually played without crashes for over an hour. I actually ended up quitting because the scripts for the Police Helper mod crashed before LCPDFR did. Even with police helper's script crashes, LCPDFR didn't crash to desktop. I would suggest everyone try this little command line, until the developers can find the source of the freval error.

With the preloadmodels command, I notice my LCPDFR logs are still sporting the freval error, but I'm no longer CTD-ing because of it.  Hopefully we'll have another hotfix and they can stop that non-existent model spawning.

The preload models has def reduced crashing. Instead of closing the game out the script will just crash, how ever its much easier to just tyoe reloadscripts rather than restart the game. Good find once again. The only time I got a crash was telling a drunk driver to get out of the car, but im pretty sure that has been brought up on other forums.

This 'fix' (PreloadAllModels=True to the [Main] section in the LCPDFR .ini file) also stabilized my v1.0, thank you for this finding.  I now only crash when trying to yell somebody out of their vehicles (Press 'E' to order suspect to leave vehicle), and of course from Police Helper v1.2.1 crashing out periodically from incompatibility.  Love this mod!  Thank you LCPDFR dev team.

After a long while of stability and 'freval' reports in log/console (after 1-3 hours or so, very random, better than not working though!), the 'freval' bug does still manage to crash my GTA IV as well.

Edit: It may have been from Police Helper's traffic events, had them enabled to '120' multiplier, since I rarely crash at all now when PH events are off.  Only script crashes in that latter case.
