Nvidia Shadow Play *** PLEASE READ***

Featured Replies

I wanted to shed a little light on this great breakthrough in recording for people that where having a hard time recording for gta 4. I have been following this since march of this year and yesterday it was released for select nvidia cards. I have 2 cards that i am currently using that use this technology. I personally tried it yesterday on a gtx660ti and on my fsx machine that has a GTX 780.

This software uses the H.264 encoder that is built into the newer graphics card i.e gtx600 and 700 cards. So there is no cpu hungry device that that really robs you of performance! It was a 30% gain over FRAPS, BANDICAM, DEXTOR AND OPEN BROADCASTER!

There was almost no frame rate hit and was smooth as butter. The play back was also amazing with no stutter and lag.

This is a GAME CHANGER for people that want to make videos, Just remember that it still is in beta and there are small bugs.

In future they are going to be implementing twitch so you can live stream with a 5% frame hit... AWESOME !!!

Here is some info on it and please people that are going to try it let me know what you think!

Just wanted everyone to know about this amazing software that is free...

Thanks

I was waiting for this since I found out about it. I just recorded some test footage, and I gotta say that I'm impressed. It didn't affect my performance at all. When I'm done preparing and uploading it, I'll post the video here. My framerate gets kinda low in the video, but that normally happens anyway.

I am glad that people read this! This is really a great tool for us gamers... what i really like is that fact that it is always running and you can save that moment on the fly without having to go through a hour of footage!

That's why I'm getting a GTX 770 now. I'm ready for battle!

RIP Action!...

and if you can pull it off get the 780 it is basically a titan minus a couple frames

Just a note: If you have a monitor with a resolution lower than 1920x1080, the video will be up-scaled and loose a lot of quality. Also, it will only record if running full-screen, not windowed. Hopefully these will change when it is no longer beta.

I know, but I really can't afford it.

I'm sure they will.

There is a way to get it to run windowed and i am still testing it out! Like i said it is still in beta, but never the less a great piece of software!

I love it, 65 fps recording is bliss!  I'm just hoping they implement a method of recording commentary in the full release.

Here's that video (got it working correctly by updating):

That frame rate is pretty much what I normally get in GTA IV on those settings. The settings are actually optimized with GeForce Experience as well.

Yes the video is monetized for no reason since I will actually make $0 on it.

The problem with that is, nVidia said that currently it only records in short duration and is meant to capture the last few minutes of gameplay in case you did something absolutely amazing and need  to capture those last few moments immediately. I'm sure that will change with time, but for now that's nVidia's vision.

You can set to Shadow mode which will constantly record and will save the last 1-10 minutes on Windows 7, or 1-20 minutes on 8,  when you press the shortcut key (default Alt-F10). There is also Manual mode which will not constantly record - it will only record when you press the shortcut key for it (default Alt-F9) and save the entire recording when you stop. It can record up to 3.8 GB on Windows 7 and unlimited on 8. You can also set it to Shadow & Manual mode which will do both of these functions.

You'd be surprised how quickly those 20 minutes are up, or how fast you hit a large storage space. 30 minutes of uncompressed, raw video can be 60-80GB at 1080p, never mind if you have a higher resolution going.

Yes, but you have Windows 8.1 which doesn't have a limit for manual recording. I'm sure there will be changes and more options in the future.

Just because there's no limit doesn't mean it's a good idea to fill up my HDD without realizing it. XFire is especially bad with that. Anyway, yeah I agree it will be better in the future, it's a new feature.

Now that I have a 1920 screen, I can say that the quality is pretty damn nice. Some flexibility in configuration to go along with the lack of a performance hit will make it perfect.
