Lockdown at my school

Featured Replies

Hey guys, so I thought I would share what happened at my school yesterday with all you law enforcement enthusiasts, because I think you would find it interesting. So I was just in my study hall period at I think around 12:30 - 12:45 and all of a sudden I hear the beep on the PR before the announcement is made. So I thought it was just a normal announcement, telling us that we couldn't study outside (I was outside and it was pretty overcast). So, I listen and I hear "Attention ****** School. We are going into a hard lockdown. I repeat HARD LOCKDOWN. The situation is in the office, so please go to one of the nearest classrooms not anywhere close to the office."  So, I basically drop what I'm doing, shove my papers into my bag (all the girls were screaming -.- ) and I run to a classroom. I go in, and the lights are off, the teacher's computer monitor is off, and we had to hide under some tables. Luckily, there was no risk of serious injury or death. That was yesterday. This morning, the principal came on the PR, and explained that there was an out of control parent, who was threatening the receptionists. Now, I should probably mention that there's a Department of Public safety division of the local PD (they have all amber light bars) and a regular cop (I saw a really nice slicktop CVPI in the parking lot once). Anyway, because the DPS officer happened to be just around the corner (he heard the PR) so I guess he called for backup. The cops arrived within minutes and did a search for the parent. The parent was apparently a woman, and she was placed in custody and I believe she's being questioned. At the end of the day, my parents said when they were picking up my younger sister, they saw three police cars, and at the end of the day, I saw a 2013 Ford Explorer, which was pretty cool, because it's a supervisor vehicle and they were only introduced to the fleet in late January.

Anyway, that day was not one I would like to experience again.

SCNG FTW!!

I don't see a valid reason to send a school into a lockdown over a screaming parent. Over here in the UK they just remain calm and the parent will eventually give up and leave.

We had a suspicious package outside our school last year and it is right next to the middle school we had ERT, Bomb Squad and k-9 out there and there was a lot of crap going on and both schools were on lockdown

They could not identify it so they blew it up

Seems like the school over reacted... Unless the parent had a weapon then there is no reason it should of been placed into lock down let alone a hard lock down... Doing lockdowns for dumb things like that make them seem not as serious when something actually lockdown worthy happens...

Yeah, I was also thinking the exact same thing. Apparently she was threatening with a weapon or something, but you know, here in the US, things are a lot different. The probability of somebody concealing a weapon is incredibly high. Also, the teacher who called the lockdown was probably also panicking because of that school shooting in Nevada a couple of days back.

my school had a lockdown a few years ago i was in 3rd grade and some moron entered the school with a gun in his hand luckly the police were there talking to some kids and no one got hurt scariest day of my life

My school was put into a lock down last year as well, we also had a bomb threat. Several callers (later identified by the police as one caller with multiple numbers & accents) called 911 reporting a bomb inside my school. We were only in lock down for about an hour since the police were quite sure that it was a hoax (a few other schools in the area were also placed under bomb threats in the past 3-4 days).

Suffice to say, it was quite scary seeing the police running up and down the halls, although nobody got hurt and nothing actually happened. Not a bad day considering I got to miss English class ;D

Little update: seemed as though there was a heated argument between a teacher and a parent. It was going to get physical, so our counselor called a lockdown. Luckily we were only locked for 30 minutes, but it was freaky anyway D:

Good for the UK. We take threats of violence in schools very seriously in the U.S. We'd like to avoid another Sandy Hook, and we just had that school shooting in Las Vegas where a teacher died, so a hard lock down and a trip to the local jail was in order for that woman.

I can kind of understand they want the children to be safe, whether they have a gun or not, you can never to be cautious when it comes to children, my girlfriend is a preschool teacher & her mom runs a daycare out of the house I would expect the same thing, she had a mother freak out at her for the stupidest reason the other day, what else are they supposed to do?

See if you can't get the debris from evidence to show to the teacher just in case she doesn't believe you ;D

In the United States things are a whole lot different than the rest of the world. I'm currently living overseas under the Department of State and I'm going to an International School. I'm in Europe and that really opened my eyes to the gun laws around the world. And some of you pointed out that a concealed weapon in countries that aren't the US are probably a pocket knife at best, but in the US I'm willing to bet at least a handful of parents that pick up their kids have some sort of firearm within reach (either on them or in their car).

Hell, I was back home this past summer in Colorado Springs and walked threw Walmart (miss the place already lol) and saw at least three guys that were openly wearing a sidearm (shopping with their families, two of the guys had kids!), and no they weren't police.

I mean don't get me wrong, a parent loudly bitching at a receptionist doesn't really need a hard lockdown, but would you whether be safe than sorry? Shit, and I think schools in the US (or at least the ones my younger cousins are going to) need to do lockdown drills more often, in my International school we do one every month or two but I say why not do them every 2-3 weeks, just to let everyone know they are prepared........

the school didn't overreact what if the parent had a weapon with them and they didnt call a lockdown then it would be bad the school did the right thing

But the parent didn't have a weapon, that's the thing..

This is the United States, I bet the UK hasn't had as much school shootings than the US. Schools over here have one priority, and it is student/staff safety. My school went on lockdown because a suspicious guy was walking on the sidewalks going back and forth for about an hour. It's not that the schools are stereotypical about everyone... they just care about our safety!

the school didn't know that for all they know the parent could have been hiding a weapon

so I start yelling at a teacher we should go into emergency lock down and call 911? (when going into a emergency lockdown Police and Fire NEED to be called doesnt matter what for, if a school goes into Emergency lock down they need to be called.)

Unless the parent made aggressive actions towards a teacher or stuff member this lockdown shouldn't of happened.. Just someone yelling then mind as well lock down the school when a fly enters the school then.

did you not read what the guy said about what happened. She was threatening the teachers with a weapon. so that isn't a good reason to go in a lock down to you?

The thing is though, being in an ERT unit, we respond to even some of the most jovial call outs, we joke about it but there are cases, and some i have been in, that turned in to an all out shit storm. I would think it better to be safe than sorry.  So I am glad the school was put into lockdown and no serious incident took place.

Imagine if the school was not put into lockdown and the parent was armed and took "pot" shots at some random kids after putting two "slugs" into the receptionist.  Just think about it!

the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it
