My strobes :D

I don't see anything wrong with this either.  I've always said I wanted a retired CVPI not as my main vehicle but as a secondary, for fun.  I've always wanted to do what Slimory is doing and install lighting into it.  In the US (where I am at least) it is perfectly legal to have whatever lights you desire, they just can't be used on a public road or to imitate an officer.

For example, using them in your driveway or a parking lot for show is 100% legal.

  • I think Slimory might just know Canadian laws better than a Dutchman. Not sure how it works in the Netherlands, but in the US, it is typically legal to install some sorts of lighting.

Whacker-ific :)

Careful man, I'm sure your intentions are pure but should you be pulled over driving that, there's a good chance they're gonna be looking for that switch, and if they find it, you're probably gonna have a bad time.

I'm speaking from experience on this one. I myself used to own a retired CVPI. Freaking loved the thing, boaty as it was. One of the local precincts around here didn't like it as much, and I lost a good 4 hours one night as they poked around my car looking for headlight flashers and stuff. I let them search and search all they wanted, but they ultimately didn't find anything as I didn't have any lights. I eventually got let go, but that was hardly the last time they stopped me to check up on me.

Anyways, your car, do what you want. If you ever need any car advice or anything about CV's, feel free to PM me!

Cool setup, but I would like to point out that it is in fact illegal if your forum account's Location on your profile is correct. According to the Nova Scotia vehicle code (I looked out of curiosity) it is illegal to equip any vehicle driven upon a highway with red, blue, or flashing lights of any kind. Also note that according to the interpretation section "vehicles operated upon a highway" are vehicles that may be driven on a public roadway. So it doesn't actually mean that you can equip them and keep them off when you are driving, it's basically saying that unless it's like a show car or project car or whatever you can't have them on there. If you use that car to drive on the road it's illegal.

(7) Flashing or revolving lights on vehicles operated upon a highway are prohibited except as authorized or required by this Act or regulations made

pursuant to this Act. R.S., c. 293, s. 179; 1993, c. 31, s. 1; 1994, c. 25, s. 1.

(5) Subject to subsections (1) and (3), the display of flashing or revolving lights shall be permitted on vehicles driven upon a highway where the vehicle is

(a) an ambulance;
(b) a school bus;
© a police vehicle;
(d) a fire department or fire patrol vehicle;
(e) a vehicle being used by the chief or deputy chief of a volunteer fire department when acting in an emergency arising from a fire or an accident;
(ea) a vehicle being used by a conservation officer appointed pursuant to an enactment when the conservation officer is performing duties as a conservation officer;
(f) a motor vehicle service, repair or towing truck, which is equipped for lifting and towing vehicles, when being engaged on the highway for the purpose of rendering service to a disabled motor vehicle or when towing a motor vehicle away from an accident or place at which it became disabled;
(g) a vehicle of the Department, a city or town that is being used in connection with the maintenance or repair of a highway or the removal of snow  therefrom;
(h) a vehicle transporting explosives;
(i) a motor vehicle towing a wide trailer; or
(j) a vehicle engaged in the construction, maintenance or repair of communication or power systems.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I just hate seeing young people who are too eager to get into law enforcement get in trouble for stupid stuff like this because they can't wait a few years. My personal advice, keep those bad boys on there but don't let anyone see them. Nice ride though man, looks like a nice clean vic.  :thumbsup:

Hmmm doesn't really make sense, the only reason I went through with them getting installed was because I asked an Officer as well as the guy who installs them, who outfits RCMP cars and I asked on my local departments facebook page

"Halifax Regional Police- Generally speaking, these lights don't pose a problem legally. That said, depending on how bright they are, they could be considered a distraction. I'll have to check on the specific section of the MVA this would relate to." that is what confuses me, plus light outfitters wouldn't be able to sell me anything like that if it were illegal to do so, which is why I think that MVA is out dated, cause that's basically saying you can't drive with Amber lights on either, which I know isn't true.

Light outfitters can often sell stuff it's illegal to apply on a road car. Show cars, for example, can have whatever lights they want.

If lighting laws weren't so bloody strict here in Australia (Queensland Atleast) I would have some bad ass lights on my car (Actually my mums car cause I am on my learners) BTW Slimory the car looks freaking sick! What else are you gonna chuck on that thing! (Pm me if you don't want another flame war lol)

Even still, all liabilility is on them if I were to get caught, either way, that's all the lights are for, is show, and they can't really say otherwise, which i'm sure most people only get those lights for that reason, I don't plan on pulling people over, in my opinion, that's just plain ignorant when people buy lights for illegal purposes (running red lights, pulling people over, driving fast etc) it just ruins it for others.

How is liability on them? You're the one who has to obey the law. It's not their job to police you. Not certain how it is in Canada, but in the US, they'd have zero liability - you're responsible for your own actions.

Very useful...at a rave party/dubstep!

Pop in a phat 1500watt sound system and tie the lights to the subwoofer so they pop with the bass.

Cudos

I would assume if it was illegal for them to sell them in the first place, they would lose their license, which is possible, they ARE just a distributor, with the possibility of losing HUGE police contracts such as Halifax Regional Police, Military Police as well as Royal Canadian Mounted Police, that's a pretty big chance. I didn't say it was their job to "police" me but if I were to get stopped and they asked where I got them from, the distributor would definitely hear about it.

Not saying I would rat them out, but if I were a rat, they would def hear about it.

Why would it be illegal to sell? Illegal for you to use on a car on the street doesn't mean illegal for them to sell. They aren't responsible for making you obey the law.

I got Stobes on my Truck. I am wanting to buy an Interior Bar Light N' a 8 Module Stick for the Back.

Maybe I put a Video up of her, I only have 2 Cause the other 2 are Burnt :'(

I agree with Zach on this too. Don't get me wrong it is very cool! But it could also lead you into some trouble that you may not intended on getting your self into. No i'm not saying that you going to go around pulling people over or run down the road with them on. There is always that chance the police could be looking for a impersonator and just so happens it matches the description of your vehicle or you get pulled over and the officer happens to see the switch. That just adds an extra headache to you. It being a simple traffic stop to you being stop for longer than 10 minutes because they are trying to see what other equipment you have. I mean its your car you do with it what you want. But I guarantee you if you were to ask a couple more officers in your area they would not advise you to have them.

The whole thing with the company's selling the lights. I mean they can sell them to anybody they want to. Just because your buying a bunch of police lights doesn't mean your going to put them in your vehicle. I have seen multiple people use police led's for something else. One guy made a police car bed for his son and put a lightbar on it and a bunch of leds it was actually pretty cool! It lit up his whole room. Other guys have put it in there basements for there "man caves"

My word of advise why not save the money so you have a good nest egg, and wait until you get into law enforcement (i'm guessing that's what you want to do) then you get to use lights on a daily basis. The thing is and what i tell everyone lights on any vehicle are not a toy if they are on a vehicle they have a purpose.

I love it. Just wondering, is this just for the hell of it, or are you using it for something? (ie, are you involved in road work, where strobes would be favorable on highways)?

Looks good! Plan to add anything to it?

My System:

Intel i7-2600k | ASUS P67 Sabertooth | NVIDIA GTX 560ti | Corsair 750W PSU | Corsair Vengeance 8GB | Lamptron Fan-Atic

Its cool, but even though the laws state you can have them doesnt mean anything. If you turn them one even once and someone pulls over or gets out of your way you will be arrested. Also I wouldn't tell anyone let alone a police department you have those...
