LAPD Getting new vehicles?

Featured Replies

So after doing some research on the internet ( google is your friend ), I found out that the LA. Police Department is currently replacing some vehicles and putting in new ones.

The vehicles I am talking about are the :

Ford Taurus Interceptor version,

Dodge Charger 2013

Chevrolet Caprice 11/12 ( I believe ).

I was look for some confirmation about it, because the only confirmed part i could find was the 2013 charger.

About the 2013 charger,

So far i know it`s going to replace most of the CVPI`s, it has more space for all of the equipment and all of the high tech features.

Now i could be wrong in this, but I would like to hear something about it. Maybe somebody from the region of LA?

Where did i get my sources ? :

Kind Regards,

Well I know just up north in the city I'm they've been switching most of their CVPI's to Impalas and Chargers, Most people that I have talked to that got the Charger switched back to CVPI's

I don't know if anyone knows this yet. But Ford has stopped making Crown Victoria models. I have noticed not only LAPD, but other departments switching to mustangs and chargers. Eventually, most departments will have to soon.

I know, the taurus was going to be used as police interceptor ( as far as i know ) and yeah CVPI is still the best out there, but to keep it real and official i was looking for some confirmation

I've seen some pictures of the new charger with LAPD paintjobs and an FS Valor on top. The guy said he even spoke to the officer, and the officer told him that LAPD ordered about a hundred chargers and the Police Interceptor as well. That charger with the FS Valor is only a showcase vehicle and it'll not be used. They'll probably use their Arjents on them. Here's the full story and some pics of the Valor charger:

As far as I know I've only seen one new lapd charger on pictures in the use of 2nd precinct. Here you can find a bit more:

Yeah thnx kanyo, they are slowly instating them.

I know the interceptor is going to be in around October or something like that ( as i was informed )

So according to your story Kanyo, they are going to be instated so the cvpi is going to be gone?

Since all departments love the CVPI, I can't imagine them just ditching them. I'm pretty sure they'll keep using them as far as they can (I heard there's a mile limit for PDs in the US). Pretty much the same story with CHP, they started using the first Police Interceptor Utilities in July and now you can see them (although quite rarely) mixed with the crown vics.

I heard that there is 1 particular department in the U.S that manufactures their own police vehicles, I can't remember which state/town it was though, would be cool to see them manufacter the crown vic but under a different name.

Actually, the LAPD isn't buying any Caprices (why I don't know). While it was originally designed with their input, it was decided that they would evaluate the charger, the PI utility (ordered 50) and the PI Sedan.

The guy said he even spoke to the officer,

You do know that guy is aznairsoftdude, right?

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

Alright, thanks for your feedback c13, so the caprice isn't getting in the LAPD? Since i found that video but it was a little bit out dated it really helps me a lot with these kind of feedback's much appreciated!

the caprices are made in Australia not in the north America that's why a lot of departments are required by the state or local goverment to buy is feet in north america so the ford interceptor utility and the dodge charger are the only choices

Good old LAPD. Doing pay cuts and layoffs due to a lack of money and yet they can order 100's of some of the most expensive patrol vehicles out there.

I believe they will go with either the charger or fords. The new Sedan and Utility for Ford are becoming all too common in Cali.

A lot of departments doing "surveys" aswell.

As for the CVPI, my local sheriff's office still uses 2001 CVPI's and just bought 2011 CVPI's(back in 2011 but are getting more common now). So I would assume we will see the 11 vic for another 10 or so years.

The LAPD already has or will be getting shortly   the  new charger, ford police ( tauras ) interceptor,   the ford interceptor ( truck )   Tahoe and impaka's   seen pictures of the 1st one  ( new charge )   already on the streets  patrolling

Los Angeles police world airport  has the new caprice  seen pic's of it   ( LAPD may buy some of them )

The L.A. sheriff has the new charger  ( seen pic's ) cvpi and Tahoe  ( they are very likely / have already order the new tauras and truck  same as the LAPD )

L.A. Sheriff waited and ordered a little late / behind every1 cause they wanted to wait and see / hear the reviews from other police departments

This is all confirmed and verified wish I kept the link to the article  from like 2 month's ago

Actually LASD has a test vehicle of each. I have seen them on flickr and will try and look for them again.

But they have one of each vehicle(at least one). A lot of agencies are doing what the NYSP have been doing for awhile.

But I do hope the LAPD gets the charger. There's too many fords in So-Cal
