[ELS V7] GTAIV Crashes upon loading screen

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new here but will be as precise as I can.

I'm using GTAIV with icEnhancer 2.1 with ENB 0.082b

I'm using a few models created by Eric James (BritishPoliceMods), they are all ELS v6 compatible AFAIK (Sprinter Ambulance, Sprinter police van, Subaru Impreza unmarked, BMW X5 marked, Audi S4 marked, VW Golf mk5 marked etc)

When I start the game WITHOUT ELSv7, everything is perfect and works as normal.

So to install ELSv7 I completed the following, Copied:

  • ELS.isi
  • ELS.asi
  • ELS folder
  • Scripthook.dll
  • dsound.dll
  • common folder

Into the root of my IV folder.

Then when I start up IV, I get past the social club screen [select play offline] and allow the game to load up. I then press the 'Start' button at the in-game loading menu and the game starts to load up.

The screen goes black (normal) and in the bottom right you have 'Loading...'the cousins bellic' (name of save-game...normal)...

And then it shuts down.

"GTAIV.exe has stopped working, Windows is searching for a problem".

I've tried 3 times and it still does it.

I've replaced the files with the original backups and the game now plays perfectly.

So, ELSv7 IS BREAKING MY GAME. How do I fix this? Any ideas?

UPDATE

I've done some more research and I have found this possible lead:

I have dsound.dll AND xlive_d.dll AND xlive.dll

Now, I don't know which to uninstall. If I uninstall the xlive files, my icEnhancer will stop working I believe.

UPDATE 2

I've tried deleting xlive_d.dll and xlive.dll together, this re-enabled Rockstar Social club so I could not launch the game.

UPDATE 3

I've tried keeping xlive.dll and removing xlive_d.dll - this bypassed the social club however, once again, crashed upon loading.

UPDATE 4

I've tried keeping xlive_d.dll and removing xlive.dll - this DID NOT bypass the social club however I logged in, and the game still crashed.

There MUST be a way to fix this. How do you guys run the game without xlive & scripthook?

UPDATE 5

I went back and re-tried removing both xlive_d.dll and xlive.dll, and tried to log in to Rockstar social club. This worked however the game STILL CRASHES.

I'm seriously lost right now. I've exhausted all options to my knowledge and just really need some help.

Thanks.

FINAL UPDATE

It appears that the problem was conflicting ASI loaders. I uninstalled GTAIV, all mods...EVERYTHING. This may not have been necessary but I chose to do it, a clean slate.

I then completed the following:

- Redownloaded GTAIV from Steam

- Created a new folder in C:Program Files called "Rockstar Games"

- Copied the 'Grand Theft Auto IV' folder from steamapps to the new Rockstar Games folder

- Installed trainer & dsound.dll & SparkIV

- Tested = Working

- Installed ONE car mod (ELS compatible)

- Tested with no ELS - No crash

- Installed ELS v7

- Tested ELS v7 on ONE ELS compatible car and it works. (Remember to disable keys in trainer).

So the solution I found: Completely remove IV and start fresh.

Why does Rockstar Social Club stop you from running the game? You are using a legal copy, right? If so, dsound works perfectly fine.

What version of Windows are you using? ELS 7 doesn't work for XP at all (or vista, it seems in my case)

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

I'm having the exact same problem and cannot seem to find a solution for this.  I have read the manual at least four times in its entirety now, and while I appreciate how in-depth it is, I have not gathered any troubleshooting results from it.  Everything is installed correctly [let's face it; not a difficult install if you bother to read the damn manual], and I have always used the dsound.dll asi loader included with LCPDFR

For reference, I am currently running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium and I'm using standard GTA IV 1.0.7.0 from Steam.

I'm using the same operating system and the same GTA version from steam.

I've uninstalled EVERYTHING and am starting from scratch.

Try deleting the xlive.dll and keep the xlive_d.dll in your GTA folder but rename it to xlive.dll, and then run GTA IV as administrator

me to what the hell is going on here :/ and what makes me more mad I see other people videos got it working with no problem such horrible luck I have. :(

My PROFILE

Uninstall GTA IV, delete the directory and everything that's left in it. Install GTA IV again, update it to 1.0.7.0, install ELSv7 and a car mod (to test it) and see if it works.

Do be sure to share how that turns out for you.  As I said in a different thread, I'll be uninstalling scripts one by one to see if any conflict.

Yes it has worked 100%.

The two asi loaders must have been causing conflicts and crashing the game.

Right now I'm trying to get express mode working (So I can hit L3 on the PS3 pad and have the lights & siren both come on) but Ctrl+Backspace isn't doing anything.

But yes, ELS is now working (aside from express mode) and I haven't had one crash yet.

Thanks all for assistance.

Glad that worked out for you; I do not have two .asi loaders but if I cannot find a script that may be interfering I will reinstall.  Thanks for the info though.

I'm having the same issue here. Went with a fresh install in a new directory, added a saved game from the interwebs (I did complete it a while back but since lost my files :/ ). It starts fine to a new game, but as soon as I add the xlive.dll file, crash to desktop :(

Error from xlive_trace.log:

As soon as i place these .ddl files, then gta iv crashes, do i have to be only on steam to install els or will it work on cd too?

Check your max ELS Cars setting, and try lowering it. That setting is what kept causing crashes for me... same exact symptoms as you. Drove myself crazy before I figured it out... lol...

I could be wrong, but I think that ELS draws the resources that it thinks it will need when loading the game. When it figures out that the PC can't provide all the resources nessescary, it crashes the game with what I think is a c0000005 error/exception (trying to access memory that's not there).

I'm having the exact same problem and I am not using xlive.dll. I was using LCPD:FR and my game was working pretty well. When I try to install ELS V7 however, my game crashes every time I get in the loading screen.
