Rage blocked by Windows Smart app control

Featured Replies

As the title says, RAGE is being blocked by windows smart app control.

I read the recent discussion where this is happening to another guy for troubleshooting but no change.

Rage and it's dll. are added in exception through quarantine and unblocked within the properties menu.

Restarted PC with defender RTP off, defender trusted signature only off, and re-download LSPDFR manual to make sure no missing files. Ran rage as administrator.

It is still getting flagged by Smart App control and not defender alone, the only feasible way of bypass seems to be completely removing Smart App Control from the device. I am not going to be able to do that on this device as it requires a full windows reinstall to turn it back on. In my past experience, it will need to be updated again to where it no longer triggers smart app control. There is no real way to add any kind proper exception to smart control once it decides a file is malicious, outside of fully disabling the system.

Any help is appreciated!

Smart App Control is an extremely restrictive security feature that basically blocks any program that Microsoft themselves has not verified or their "app intelligence services" determines is unsafe.

There's nothing we can do on our end. In fact, releasing an update to LSPDFR only makes matters worse as Microsoft has no telemetry data on the new version to determine if it is safe or not. Hopefully as more people install the latest version of LSPDFR, their intelligence service will realize it is not a threat.

Generally, Smart App Control blocks any untrusted binaries.

A big determination of whether a binary gets marked untrusted is whether the binary is signed or not. LSPDFR and RPH are unsigned, along with every other GTA5 mod -- partly due to the cost of signing software and partly due to this not being an issue for most users. Sometimes, Smart App Control allows unsigned binaries if they hold a 'high' Windows Defender reputation, which is something that takes months to establish, and usually there's been a new update since then.

This won't be something unique to LSPDFR/RPH, but you'll most likely run into issues with other mods too.

You can either turn it off, wait for the file to reach 'high reputation' or not use LSPDFR/other mods. It's really in your court.

Figured it would be some convoluted ultimatum either way, thanks.
