Whats the most stable Car/Light modding you have found?

I'm guessing people have little tricks/ideas to get things to work better with all tools availiable.

Today I played around with ELS and a cpl of car mods but I couldn't find stability and game would crash here and there.
So I removed it all and most scripts work well again.

I'm going to keep playing around because car mods and lighting mods look great.
Is there any other lighting systems? are they better?
What do you personally use.

Script wise currently I have loaded
LSPD:FR Latest
Braveheart policing script latest
vDH towing
vDH policing adon (cant remember the name right at this sec, it allows checking for ID on foot and bait cars etc etc.
Traffic flow (which I put in to fix the issues with car modding causing taxi everywhere :O and have left in since I removed car mods because its making everything flow so much better.)
Most of which seems to work well most of the time without car mods.

I'm just looking for experinces other people have had with modding cars and any tips you may have for running it as smoothly as possible.

You are probably using ELSv6, try using v5 instead.  The earlier version is far more stable and less likley to cause the game to crash.

 

TIP: Beware of modding the police and police2 slots (police3 and police4 as well), as those cars spawn the most, using a high-poly ELS car can cause severe texture loss and crashing as well if used in those first two police slots.  I only mod my nStockade and policeb slots for my fav high poly ELS rides.   No texture loss and no crashing since those do not spawn as often.  If you have a really fast CPU (quad core) and 16+gig RAM, you could possibly mod all slots with high-poly ELS cars...just know that it can cause problems in-game. - You'll know when you get the texture bug, where all the roads and buildings start to disappear in-game.  

 

Also, I do mod all of my police slots (police, police2, police3 and police4, aswell as noose slot), but I do not use ELS cars and I keep those cars low to mid-poly vehicles (under 1-1.5Meg WFT file).

 

TIP: When modding cars, try modding one, then run the game for a few minutes to make sure it works ok.  Sometimes a car is just not compatible and will crash your game.

Less Overtaking

ALPR (automatic licesnse plate reader).

First Person Mod

Various Ped mods, new cop textures, ect.

Modding police and pokce2 should be fine. Recommended low poly. High poly is not recommended but you can have it in that slot. ELS v6 is unstable to a certain point. However If you DISABLE AI ELS, ELS V6 will be as stable as ELS v5

It's not that bad for many reasons, first it will load less models so less texture popping, second you can choose only the models you like more to spawn, & third you can eventually spawn more cars by making a second or third (didn't test this last 1) copy & call it TrafficFlow2.ini or 3.

Never really had a problem relating to crashing with ELSv6.  I'm running GTA IV and I am currently using all low-poly police vehicles; the police slot holds the Driver San Francisco CVPI, police2 with the Driver San Francisco Impala, Noose Patriot with Lt. Caine's ESU Landstalker, Noose Cruiser with another Driver San Francisco CVPI, PStockade with an LCPD Burrito, and NStockade with a modification on the original nstockade to make it ELS

 

I'm also using the newest LCPDFR, Towing Script, PoliceHelper, TrafficFlow, an ENB, and quite a few others and have not had any issues.

Eh...don't like only 20 cars out of 80-90 in game.  You'd have to run 4 Traffic Flows at the same time, after manually adding all the cars.  Imagine there'd be massive lag doing that.  If you keep Traffic Load at or under 20 cars per cycle you'll not have any texture loss and all cars will spawn.

Ehh I use it since on my weak comp I modded onl 20 cars & I like them not sh!tty stuff like rusty cars on ugly cars lol.

Those are the cars you pull over for being unsafe.  Especially the rusted crap driving around, belching black smoke, no plates, missing front quarter panels (or quarter panels bent outwards).  Those guys get my special attention.

I find that it's really really inconsistent what causes crashes and what doesn't. I actually have both IV and EFLC, and ELS v6 works in EFLC but not IV. Police and police2 do spawn by far the most, so are the most likely to cause issues with AI ELS and high-poly (also, if you turn off AI ELS and have an ELS car in those slots, most cops won't use emergency lights, which looks weird). polpatriot can cause MASSIVE crashing with ELS, and noose also (IIRC) has issues when modded with non-ELS when used for LCPDFR backup.

My situation's kinda different than most (I use a script I wrote that makes police3 and noose spawn very often, so I basically have 4 types of car on routine patrol. However, as they don't patrol by default, they're safer to mod.

You can also replace a civilian car with an ELS-enabled cop car and use *that* as your car, so you keep ELS for you and still have all non-ELS police slots.

High-poly cars can go in any slot, it all just revolves around your computer specs.  I have a i5k, 660, and 16 gb of ram, so I have all very high poly cars, for all police and civilian with no problems.  However, the bonus of installing other cars for Police 1 and 2 is that if you install non-ELS cars, then those police cars will still have some form of lights when/if you turn of AI ELS.

Thanks for the detailed tips, yes I was using ELS 6. I will give 5 a go later and see if it works better for me.

And I had all police slots modded with a pack that used ELS.

I thought there may be more traffic scripts, but for my testing the 20 car one worked. When I get everything working well I will look at changing from traffic flow, But it was good to see a bus continuously driving around the city, before I added traffic flow I rarely if ever seen one and thats just kinda unreal in a city where public transport would be used 24/7.

Old school Quad q8200, 4GB ram, 1GB 9500GT. I run the game on low settings mostly cause the graphics card is not the best in the world.

That might be a good idea! The thought crossed my mind before but I wasn't sure if it would work. Since I'm using trafficflow I could mod a slot that isn't spawned at all, thanks!
