What Cars Would You Like To See Patrolling Near You?

My local force, Sussex Police, have some very nice cars.

Ford Focus: Area Car / Patrol Car

BMW Estate: Roads Policing Unit / Traffic (Which I'll be driving next year)

Mercedes Sprinter: Mass Transport / Public Order Control

BMW X5: Patrol Car

Rangerover: Patrol Car / Highways Agency

Congractulations on getting a job with the roads policing unit :)

That would be akward in a pursuit :)

Those Volvo's are nice, though you're not likely to see them as they're mainly for traffic units more than anything else.

And I agree with Bicycle patrols, they're frankly ridiculous and remind me of 21 Jump Street... the only use for them really is PCSO's doing neighbourhood patrols.

But hey, you gotta love rain right? Right?!

hmm not really, this is near where I live.

But sometimes, you'll see this. I am surprised how many unmarkeds/stealths we have though.

That's because we in Toronto only have ~180 uniformed officers, one of the smaller fleets for a city our size...

Impalas are fine, they've been out here since like the 90's. I hope the NYPD gets its shit together

Meaning, more than zero Altimas?

I'm lucky in terms of police car variety, because there are a ridiculous number of uniformed police agencies where I live (a consequence of living at the border of 2 states and DC, and the many federal police agencies in DC), and my county PD likes trying lots of kinds of cars (I've personally seen a '12 Charger, a Taurus, and a Caprice in service). That said, I haven't yet seen a new Explorer. I really really want to see them.

it's alot but when i take a drive down to Walmart it's what i see

I also see alot of RCMP and regional police forcces as alot of them come up to CFB petawawa for training

[EDIT] Id like to add that there should be less of those god damned bicycle units, there low cost but how bad can response times get :)

I've experienced them, and all cops agree it's the perfect transport for a cop in a city. There are some tricks on how to give yourself a safe pose with it, you can use it as a weapon and it's fast in the busy streets. Also you can reach in a fast way places with it which you can't reach with a car or motorcycle.

The're not used for your average duties, more likely used by Safer Neighborhood Teams in the public presence role to note down crimes or take statements - similar to mobile "bobbies on the beat".

They get assigned a small local area, and interact with the residents/local people, exchanging information/intel for the more tactical response officers to act upon. Works really well in some areas, and.... doesn't at all in others...

This is what I have noticed about them.

They're for surveillance in town and catering surveillance. (Evening shifts in the weekends when the young are partying.)
