Recommended Posts

multiple people have been shot at and atleast 1 firefighter has been hit at the scene of a building fire. the gunman is still at large and the scene is unsecure, the fire has now spread to surrounding structure(s). keep those involved in your thoughts. as a firefighter myself i cant imagine what they are going through, and so close to christmas!

If anyone's looking for an article I found this http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/24/us/new-york-firefighters-shooting/index.html

No apparent fatalities, but I guess 2 firemen are now being treated for gunshot wounds.  I wonder if someone didn't want the fire extinguished (like if it was arson).

I hope the firefighters will be alright.

Edit:  3 firemen are thought to have been injured.  The fire has spread to 3 houses.

You all sound surprised, you shouldn't be, the U.S has just started gun control, and there is going to be some hard times that come along with it, stuff like this rarely happens in Canada, cause it's illegal to even have a sawn-off shotgun, why? cause we have strict gunlaws, it's gonna be a bumpy road that's for sure, i can almost guarantee people are going to start that crap about "the right to bare arm's" pardon my language, but what the fuck does anyone need a gun for? having a gun doesn't make people feel safe, it just creates more violence, Obarack should have every firearm pulled off of everyshelf, unless they are government issue, hell even the government misuse them..

Australia also has really strict gun laws, it's near impossible to buy a firearm here.

And i bet there are rarely any shootings, we do have alot of stabbings though, and sometime last year there was a shooting at least 3 times a week, half the city was scared shitless, one of them happened seconds from my girlfriends school, we don't need that shit in our neighbourhoods..

Yep, there are rarely any shootings here and when there are shootings they are usually between rival bikie gangs. We implemented the law after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996 that left 35 people dead and the 1995 killing of two police officers in Sydney's outer neighbourhoods. Since the law was passed there have been no major shootings.

Thoughts go out to the injured, and I hope the POS is killed.

I hate to go so off topic, but you answer your own question in your post. You ask why we need guns, and the answer is in your last sentece, "hell, even the government misuses them." The reason why we cling to our guns so bitterly is because we didn't roll over and let our motherland give us our freedoms, we fought bitterly to a stalemate using those guns in the late 1700s. Not only were we told that our "right to bear arms shall not be infringed," the founders even wrote to eachother about the need for the citizens to have equal weaponry to that of an average infantryman to be able to overthrow a tyrannical government.

The thing people fail to understand about guns in the US is that there are too many of them for a ban to work. We have too much of a gun culture, which did not exist in places where strict gun control was "successful." Anywhere in the US where strict gun control is put in effect, like California, New York City, Chicago or Washington, crime takes off because only the criminals there have guns, compared to suburbs in the Midwest where at least half the houses have a gun, with little crime.

If there was an attempt to do as you said, removing all guns by force, that would launch a bitter civil war that would result in millions dead. Our military is having a tough time keeping a few thousand illiterate third worlders under control in Afghanistan, could you imagine the carnage that would come from 80 million gun owners with 270 million guns?

Yet another thread that someone is going to turn into a gun argument.

For God's sake can there be one shooting thread where we mourn the loss of heroes and not start bantering about guns???

Criminals dont get their guns legally anyways. We need guns to protect ourselves from them. Taking guns away from the citizens wont fix anything. Will make it worse. Borders need to be secured and illegal gun trade needs to be stopped. One of the biggest problems in the US. We cant fix the gun issue if they keep pouring into the country like they do now.

sorry folks as a first responder myself   and some1 entering law enforcement I feel horrible  really really bad esp with  it being christmas

but punishing the  avereage law abiding citizen for a 1% who can't handle guns is def not the answer

there are plenty of us with guns / gun permits who go through life without  even a sniff of getting into trouble

illegal gun sales would explode and cause a much bigger problem, and thnkz to my terroisim / counter terrorisim class at college ( which  teacher wasn't suppose to tell us ) I now know where the black market HQ is in South America, if I know now you bet your butt criminals and illegal gun traders know where it is

so again punishing hte mass for the 1 % isn't the answer never will be

wait, why is this new, shootings happen in america constanly,

go look at chicago, people die there every day in record number.

chicago holds the record for most killings in under 30mins, 42 is the number if your wondering.

shooting are not new to america, that for sure, everyday i wake up and hear gun shots being fired, and that just in my nieghborhood.

im not trying to say that this is not sad or whatever, but the media really needs to stop sensationalizing everything.

You'd have to be a special kind of lowlife if you trap first responders who give their everything to help out people. This filth shouldn't even be given a funeral.

My heart goes out to the victim's families and friends who won't be able to celebrate christmas with their loved ones. The way in which these brave men were taken is despicable.
