I didnt know they were about to get tasers but maybe thats just in London?

I dont know if Canada is bad for gun crime or not but over here there was 42 (i think) gun crime deaths compared to Americas 12,000 so sometimes its safer over here.

Youre right about the "right to bear arms" thing because we learnt it in history...it was the founding fathers that made it a constitutional law < I sound like an idiot :/

12,000 you say? i watched a documentary by Vinnie Jones and there is 23,000 gang related crimes every year in L.A alone, now 42 compared to 23,000 is just ridiculous lol

23,000 Crimes not all will be deaths but I just quickly searched those figures so they might be incorrect because there was something like 40,000 suicides 70,000 injuries. And youre right 23,000 is a lot more than 42 lol infact its 22,958 more :)

They really need some sort of weaponry whether that be tasers or not they need it, look at this video. The police officer uses a bloody rubbish bin as self defence.

I have seen that video, and yes I agree that they really need some proper weaponry, but they did take that guy down at the end without the use of any guns. Quite impressive.

The gun crime incidents in the UK you get your numbers from are the number of gun crime incidents reported. The real figure could be quite different. In some areas of London (probably in Birmingham and Manchester as well), there is some discontent with the local police force, and alot of people are too afraid to call the police in an incident for fear of their neighbors and friends thinking they are grassing and retaliating for that. So some people take the matters into their own hands, and thats where it turns messy.

I live in the state of Oregon in the US and honestly, in my area there are hardly any gun-related crimes. However, I also possess a license for, and carry, a concealed handgun. I can confidently say those 12,000 deaths, are probably armed bad guys getting shot by police and people protecting their homes/family/property. Justifiable homicide, actually. And maybe it's just the American way. Like that moment in Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark when Indy just shoots that sword wielding guy. IE, American laziness to a whole new level. I feel bad for the cops in the UK. No offense is meant by this statement as the officers themselves bravely charged in and eventually subdued the guy, but I guess I mean it more for the government's lack of arming them. However the above video is just f-ing pathetic. American's wouldn't have shot him either, but a rubber bullet or beanbag fired from a shotgun into that pyscho's ballbag would've ended the situation much sooner and he'd be getting booked on Assault On Law Enforcement Officers. Why does the UK refuse to allow it's citizens to arm themselves? Do they not realize that bad people will not give a shit what the law says and they'll pack heat anyways? Not only that, but outlawing weaponry just adds to your problems as now a black market can now set up and thrive selling weaponry illegally. Plus, the government is losing out of those taxable dollars.

Anyways, don't take this as me bashing England or anything as America is certainly not perfect, but please, I pray, arm your officers somehow. They need it. It's totally unfair to make them take their lives into their hands and not even properly equip them. I guess you can say that the cops in the UK are definitely not lacking in courage, because I know for a fact if someone told me to face down a violent criminal with just a stick I'd tell them where to shove the club and to do it themselves.

And that's my schpeal. And I have no idea why I decided to go on and on like that. I'm sorry guys, lol.

LMAO! High five. That's hilarious.

This was a few years ago and those officers are just general 'beat bobbies'. back then only Armed support had tasers. Now a lot of different forces carry tasers, although primarily TSG and my own unit.

Back then... we just used bins!

What so its not only the Met that are getting tasers for routine use?

I see Constables around me all the time that have custom Colt .45s. I've seen some very pretty .45s too. One had a blued finish and extremely sexy ivory grips. I've also seen ones that had gold colored trim around them and whatnot. Some very sexy pieces.

EDIT: I know my local department carry the S&W M&P 40. The Pittsburgh PD carry Glock 17s I think. Both are around me.

Ok to clear things up about this incident.

The reason they didn't call in armed support is because not only were there about 20-30 officers already on scene which would create that scene to be what is known as 'locked down'. After this point the police usually don't send any more officers unless there is a real emergency.

After all, shooting the guy wouldn't of solved anything.

Better tactics would be to withdraw some of the on scene officers to general duties and call in an armed unit to replace them. I understand that they got the job done, but it could have turned out dreadful if one of the officers was hit, I mean, the guy had a large machete. At the end of the video you can see an officer nearly goes sick after seeing the size of that weapon - the magnitude of its blade would be enough to chop off a limb if enough force was applied. To be honest, in my opinion, these officers were dicing with fire.

I have seen armed officers called out for non firearms incidents, where their firepower is needed. One would be that incident on the news which was caught on camera earlier on this year in Newham, where a cop got attacked by a pit bull dog. There are also many incidents of that sort uncovered by the news, which go on alot.
