I agree with you...a quick zap to the balls with a taser and he'd be down. But were british so we use a bin :) lol

A huge amount of different ones, but Glock 22s are standard issue. Officers are allowed to purchase their own guns for carry after passing cadet phase, if the model is approved. Here is a list from Wikipedia:

Smith & Wesson: 459, 5904, 5903, 659, 5906, 645, 4506, 4566, 4567, 5903 TSW, 5906 TSW, 4569 TSW, and 4566 TSW.

Glock: 9mm: Model 34, Model 17, Model 19 .40 caliber: Model 35, Model 22, Model 23 .45 ACP: Model 21, 21SF

That's nothing compared to some departments. One in my area allows you to carry anything as long as you qualify with it and it meets certain standards. LVMPD has extremely loose regulations on duty weapons also

Im not a big expert im only 14 but one of the reasons our country dosn't carry guns is because unlike America gun crime is very low as there are no gun shops and another reason is this :

Unfortunatley I come from that area so yet again that deserves another *facepalm*

You're right we have very low gun crime in the UK, something like 40 deaths a year (not sure on that one) from gun crime- RIP 2 officers who were killed in the gun and grenade attack.

And no, perhaps some of us aren't so great with CS- *facepalm*

They should have it so that places like the U.K can carry gun's but have to be specially imported in, cause honestly, what are you going to do if a seriously dangerous individual need's to be dealt with? throw your shoes or pepper spray at him? what are you protecting if you can't even protect yourself, like seriously..

We do have special task forces that use weapons "CO19" but mostly if the shit goes down they use tasers :/ fail in my opinion for example I dont know if you know who Raul Moat is but basically he shot 3 or 4 people and went on a rage shooting a policeman in the eye in turn making him go blind

so the police responded with taser shotuguns......seriously!!!!

Over here beat cops are getting tasers soon. I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing. Crime rate in C.London is over the average, so the environment requires one, but there are too many complaints of police brutality from civilans, so arming cops with tasers might not help much.

The main deterrence for firearms in the UK is the strict import laws and the fact that if an armed incident occurs, professional backup/response teams respond (multiple units, look at SCO19 for instance). But people can still get them if they know the right contacts (black market). What I dont understand is how that nut got access to grenades - were they military grade or home made explosives?

The problem is in that case, because regular police officers are unreasonably armed for that situation, there isnt much they can do and its too late until armed response arrives... the one thing they cant do is prevent a murder of an officer - they can get the criminal afterwards, but the criminal has the element of suprise. In the US cops are armed, so atleast they have some sort of protection (still the criminals they face are armed with AKs and M16s...)

I dont know if Canada is bad for gun crime or not but over here there was 42 (i think) gun crime deaths compared to Americas 12,000 so sometimes its safer over here.

Youre right about the "right to bear arms" thing because we learnt it in history...it was the founding fathers that made it a constitutional law < I sound like an idiot :/

Yeah probably, all the boroughs are going to get them soon, some boroughs have already kitted up with tasers (Bromley, Harrow, Barking & Dagenham, Enfield and Kingston).
