Amber parking lights for the 2nd gen. Stanier v1.1

(13 reviews)

4 Screenshots

This is a simple texture edit of all the 2nd generation Vapid Stanier (police, police4, sheriff, taxi)
vehicles, that changes part of the headlights and indicators to amber. Both the headlights and indicators will
be amber even when the lights are turned off.

Plus, as an optional mod, I added a visualsettings.dat mod that turns every indicator light on a steady
glow at night. Unfortunately this means parked cars will have them on as well.

Installation:

You're gonna need OpenIV for this. All the .ytd files go into vehicles.rpf, while visualsettings.dat go into common/data located in update.rpf.

What's New in Version v1.1

Released

- Fixed the sheriff not having the amber parking lights

What a silly mistake to have to correct. Be nice to see if any other cars need a similar fix.

where is vehicles.rpf?

There are actually several vehicles.rpf in gta v, some contain even cars that the other rpf files have (like it was updated). The main one is in x64e.rpf, but you can also find one in update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday3ng/models/levels/gta5.

Thanks for not adding a readme file with instructions on how to install this mod properly.

Many people will be modding the game for the 1st time and readme files are meant to help.

The problem is GTA V has 2 different versions, retail and steam. On the steam version you can mod the rpf files without GTA V downloading the vanilla ones, while on the retail version it automatically downloads any file that has been modded (so you need to use OpenIV's "mods" folder technique). Then there are the patches: when GTA V came out, all vehicle files were located in x64e.rpf, then came an update, some of the vehicles are now in update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday3ng. When the ill-gotten gains DLC came out for GTA V, now some of the vehicles are located in update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday4ng. It's impossible to tell where your vehicles.rpf is located, since I have no idea if you're on the steam version or if you are in fact playing on the latest patch.

The best idea is to use OpenIV's "mods folder" technique and always install every single vehicle mod into the latest patch's vehicles.rpf, even if by default you can't find them there.

What is the mods folder technique?

You can find more info about it on OpenIV's page:

http://openiv.com/?p=1132

It basically lets you have a brand new folder with your mods, so you don't have to replace the original files. If you want to divert back to an unmodded GTA V, you can simply just rename or delete the "mods" folder.

I will have to look into that because I currently have the game installed twice. Modded and u modded for GTAOnline use etc.

Also, despite installing it properly the Sheriff Staniers are not showing the parking lights but others are, why is this?

Oh this file has been updated since. When patchday3ng update (whatever that is) came they updated the sheriff's texture, including adding emergency light textures into the sheriff+hi.ytd. Basically that file was missing from my mod. I've updated it since, so now you have to replace that .ytd file as well. Also I suggest finding patchday4ng's vehicles.rpf, and putting every single modded vehicle's files in there (you have to put all of them, including .yft files as well), this way it'll surely override every single file.

I have 1.1 already but will see if I can figure out how to get patchday 3 file and add it to that then :)

- Ok done that but the Sheriff is not present in patchday4ng.

I'm sorry, but I'm really confused as to how to install this mod. Would someone be able to post an installation path for the files (I can;t seem to figure out which .rpf files to use (I think I'm putting files that should be in one vehicle.rpf in another and vice versa.) I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Anyways, great work. Hope to try it out soon :teehee:

As of now, you need to open update/x64/dlcpacks/patchday3ng/dlc.rpf/x64/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf and replace sheriff.ytd and sheriff+hi.ytd.

Then you need to open x64e.rpf/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf and replace police.ytd and police4.ytd.

What are the lines that you edited in the visualsettings? I want to use this with DrunkPolice's improved LED lighting.

car.defaultlight.day.emissive.on    10.00
car.defaultlight.night.emissive.on    25.00

Like I said if Rockstar will update the emergency vehicles, you'll have to find them again in the latest patch .rpf file. I have no idea which one could it be, since I haven't played GTA V for over a month.

So the amber parking lights are working on the taxi and sheriff but not the lspd marked and unmarked. Any help would be helpful?

Sgt.Kanyo

Yupp since the new update, Rockstar included those cars in patchday5ng.rpf. You'll have to replace those now as well.
