Custom Environmental Lighting for ELS 0.1

(0 reviews)

1 Screenshot

ELS vehicles made to also work with this mod will be able to have more detailed environmental reflections that can be customized, and even come with shadows. This means no more takedowns shining in the wrong place/direction, no more lights that don't reflect at all and no more of those triple sideways pointing lights that come on with forward facing visor lights. In general, the lights cast by vehicles will be far more realistic.

ATTENTION:

  • Only vehicles that are made to support this plugin will be affected!
  • Using lights with shadows can cause mild performance drops!

Demo:

Developers:

This mod allows the insertion of custom environmental lights into the ELS VCFs of vehicles. You can create as many as you want for each extra part, change the positions and rotations, change light attributes such as brightness, roundness and falloff, and optionally include shadows. To develop a car for CEL, all you need to do is add the template included in the Development Instructions.xml file into the ELS VCF, and modify/duplicate the premade lights.

Q1) what vehicles support is this mod (any ELS vehicles?)

Q2) are you going to make a video on how to set it up and how to custom?

I'm trying to configure it, is there a way that it won't shine so far so that the reflections are closer?

Yes, you can set the distance parameter lower or the falloff parameter higher.

1. Right now, no vehicles support it as it was just released.

2. You can look in the Development Instructions.xml file, all the parameters are described there. Perhaps I can make a tutorial in the future.

Yes, and those models have to be made to support this mod as well.

@Lieutenant Dan  Can you do that for FiveM?

I may look into it in the future, but I have never worked with FiveM or multiplayer in general.

Hello! Would like to say that this is an awesome and much needed mod. I do however have an issue... I have an FPIU that I have been working on for months now, and is almost complete. I decided to add support for this mod before I release it, because not having any environmental lights in stage 2 just seems absurd to me, and I want to release a very high quality vehicle with correct lighting. Currently I have about 12 environmental lights attached to my light bar using this mod and noticed that my game now crashes shortly after going code 3, especially when the vehicle is moving. If I sit still, no crashing, but when driving it does not take long before a crash happens. If I disable this mod, I have no crashing issues what so ever.

Is it possible that this mod is a little unstable when adding multiple environmental lights on a single vehicle? The specific flash pattern I am using is very quick with very short time in between flashes, does this cause stability issues? I have most of my lights settings at a distance of 120 with a fade out value of 200, brightness at 0.50 and an angle of 60 degrees. Do any of these variables cause instability if they are set to high?

Thank you for any and all help!

Disregard my previous post I suppose... After work today there was no more crashing! I recorded a video that has a link in the desc of my settings with this mod in action. Enjoy 🙂

Glad to see you're using and enjoying my mod, the crashing issue you mentioned is very strange as the speed of spotlight creation does not matter (at least in theory), because it's handled every frame anyway. Did you perhaps update something, have another program running, or use a mod that affects driving?

Having the same issue as @Mastiff353 log file is essentially a copy and paste, getting the "[ERROR] Failed to instantiate script CustomEnvironmentalLighting.Main because constructor threw an exception: System.Xml.XmlException: 'e' is an unexpected token. Expecting white space. Line 66, position 29."

Any ideas?

Could you please send all your ELS VCFs?

@Lieutenant Dan Unfortunately I’ve recently reinstalled my game and have not reinstalled all the mods I had but I can describe the circumstances of when the error occurred. I had the plugin installed in the correct location and added the included code to the xml file in ELS. The only cars that had the lines in the .xml were custom ISP cars I made myself which worked initially after installing but crashed the plugin not soon after I closed and reopened the game. I’m assuming it’s a DLL problem as I believe I tested the plugin without the xml lines installed and it still crashed. I currently don’t have the .xml files to post but since others seem to be having the problem they can share theirs.

Looks really great if you put the effort in. Unfortunately, when I enable shadows on all my lights, I get a problem where lights disappear depending on what angle my camera is at. It's not a big deal because shadows really destroy my FPS anyway, but it was a bit of a bummer. Not sure if that's GTA itself or an issue with the mod.

The big problem is that I don't want to change car packs now that I have all my cars set up with this. I put at least 10 hours into it.

Also, to anyone who wants to do this themselves: Follow the directions found in the download. You have to set all the AllowEnvLight in the EOVERRIDE section of your .xml to false. Copying the offsets from EOVERRIDE didn't work for me, I had to find them manually.
