Smooth Driving V 1.07

(24 reviews)

1 Screenshot

Description
This modification enhances keyboard and mouse driving in Grand Theft Auto V, by smoothing out throttle, brake and steering, providing a cruise control feature with auto-follow, and other miscellaneous improvements such as engine control, fuelling, etc. Aggressive driving is still possible, either by double tapping W/S, or enabling race mode (detailed user guide included in download).

Important

This mod is known to be incompatible with ikt's Manual Transmission, and Custom Gear Ratios. It may also be incompatible with other similar driving mods.

Features
     - Smooth acceleration/deceleration
     - Smooth, realistic steering (with steering angle hold outside of vehicle)
     - Ignition control (engine stays on when leaving vehicle)
     - Fuel consumption and refueling
     - Cruise control with auto-follow
     - Improved, automatic gearbox
     - Optional custom gear ratios
     - Compact and informative UI
     - Extensive configuration
     - Turn and hazard indicators with automatic cutoff

Planned Features
     - Odometer (have to figure out how this will work in game)

Known Bugs
     - UI may flicker when FPS fluctuates a lot

     - If Menyoo is installed, AI shifting will not work in certain spots (such as Vespucci beach)
     - Please report any further bugs

Installation
    1. Ensure you have the following installed:

          - ASI Loader (OpenIV > Tools > ASI Manager)
          - ScriptHookV (latest version)
          - ScriptHookV .NET (latest version)
    2. Navigate to the Grand Theft Auto V main directory.
    3. Go to the Scripts folder (part of ScriptHookV .NET, if such folder does not exist, create it).
    4. Unpack the archive that was downloaded into the Scripts folder (SmoothDrivingV.dll and the SmoothDrivingV folder should be alongside one-another inside the Scripts folder).

Changelog
     - V1.01:
          - Added sequential shifting
          - Added ability to disable smooth steering

It's not working for me anymore. I've had it in set in the  Rage console that it loads automatically and it does but I've got the default shitty R* throttling. This was working fine a while back, I wonder if the update broke it? Can anyone else confirm?

I also have tried loading the plugin again via the F4 console and it does load successfully with no errors but it doesn't affect the throttling...

It does however brake just fine. Like it takes a while to brake the car down to a full halt but the acceleration is the default R* one.

Did you get any new modifications that might have something to do with cars? Also, can you please send me the .ini file? There might simply be a problem with the settings.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I've recently installed a plethora of mods so I'm not entirely sure :P

But most of them are scripts only, like single player apartment and world of variety etc.

None of them should be affecting cars I believe?

As for the .ini file I re-downloaded the zip file from here and just simply copied it onto the plugins folder so I don't think that there will be any changes there, right?

Alright so I figured it out I think. I was previously using (when the mod was working for me) Simple Trainer for GTAV and then once I switched to Enhanced Native Trainer(ENT), the throttling was back to default styled the one R* uses.

I really do want to use ENT as my trainer though so could you perhaps try it out and figure out a fix for it? I mean how the hell is a trainer affecting the vehicles?!

Hey, great mod. What about the un-junk turning, now ?

Space.

Do you think we'd see the toggle keys anytime soon?

Mod works great.  Only thing you might want to change is the actual folder inside the download.  Some of the new comers that come to the site may see that 'PLUGIN' folder and try and put it into their plugins directory thus not allowing the mod to work at all.  Surprised no one here even mentioned it.

Only one small suggestion to the users of this mod.  You might want to change the full throttle from SHIFT key to another,  as we all know the SHIFT key is default LSPDFR tag for pull overs.  If you don't do this,  you will have red dots all waiting to be pulled over etc.

Big Suggestion: Make it so you can choose whether you want no key to be the slow medium or fast speed.

Essentially you would have 3 different modes with 3 different speed options:

1 (As is right now):

None - Slow

Ctrl - Med

Shift - Fast

2:

None - Med

Ctrl - Slow

Shift - Fast

3 (my preference):

None - Fast

Ctrl - Slow

Shift - Med

You don't even have to add much, just a key bind for slow speeds set to None by default.

Future plans:

  • Remove skid sound upon braking

x64 -> audio -> sfx -> RESIDENT.rpf -> vehicles.awc

You need to mute 0x057E09B6 sound file. I've done this for myself a few years ago.

That is the main skid sound, and it does in fact remove brake skidding, but also makes normal skidding sound like occasional farts. I was thinking of a fix I could do through code.

It's great that you continue to iterate on this mod --- thank you!

It seems like my vehicles are accelerating and driving too fast with the 2.0 mod. Is there a way to change that speed coming soon? Otherwise I will likely revert to the older version. Also, would be nice to have a tooltip (possibly a persistent one) to show when fast mode is enabled.

You can increase the throttle smoothness in the settings file. The tooltip part is something I'm figuring out. I need to find a method to make it as lightweight as possible.

Also, you have to press and release the W key continuously because instead of limiting drive force, I smooth it out. So when throttle is 100%, it takes a while for the car to go full throttle.

This is a great mod! One suggestion is to add some sort of indication/notification if the fast mode is on or off as I have a hard time telling in some cars unless I brake hard. Other than that this makes driving an ease, thank you. Now only if the turning could be fixed it would be perfect

Hi man! I was wondering if this could be changed in handling.meta or something to get it to work in FiveM server?

Unfortunately, I don't believe it can be (if it can, I don't know how). This plugin uses a C# script to smooth the throttle depending on the set smoothness. I don't think the handling.meta can implement such a feature, as it only holds variables that control a car's handling.

Hi man! I know have figured it out by changing in handling, and yes it does work, there is lines called for example "brakeforce" and so on. I got it like ur mod but without urs. Just using some lines

Anyone else having issues with this on the latest RPH and GTAV versions? Nothing seems to be working at all after a clean install.

Yes, latest update seems to break this mod. @Lieutenant Dan -- we need you!

And Rohan will answer!

Is the mod simply not working, as in, the cars drive without any change?

Also, I would need a log file to see what's going on in detail. Send me the ragepluginhook.log file found in your main GTA V directory.

Yes, the mod seems to load fine but the cars drive without any of the expected changes. Pressing the keybinding to activate/deactivate doesn't do anything either.

Log file attached -- I've come to rely a lot on this mod and the game isn't playable without it now.
