does anyone use icehancer with els
I have recently posted my solution to this in another thread (see quote below), and all you have to do is edit the visualsettings.dat file. It appears white to you because the brightness of the lights are set to very high in the modified visualsettings.dat file that comes with iCEnhancer. It also helps if you turn bloom off, as the lens flare causes you to see distorted colors (not to mention that it is irritating when your lightbars are flashing). I use iCEnhancer 2.0 with ELS and LCPD:FR, and am currently waiting for the latest 2.1 release, which is said to bring an enormous performance overhaul for an ENB mod, as well as compatibility with all versions of GTA IV and EFLC. for examples of my ELS in iCEnhancer.

is there a a way to fix low fps?
What are your system's specs? Are you playing GTA IV with any mods? Please run the diagnostic tool and post the log here as well. There is usually nothing much you can do in terms of software for boosting FPS. That's done either by lowering your graphics settings, optimizing your computer to performance settings rather than power-saving settings, and ultimately upgrading your hardware altogether. Of course, you can always overclock to get better performance, but unless you have bought overclocking parts, that's not going to help you either.

Low FPS on GTA 4
If the GPU is warm, that's normal, since it's supposed to be quite warmer than the rest of the components. Mine is about 20°C warmer than the rest of my computer. Just make sure that nothing in your laptop is going over 75°C; that's the warning temperature in my book, and your parts may start to have permanent damage. Here's the thing. I already told you how to do this, and this is done in the commandline.txt method. I've marked in red the two settings that deal directly with the VRAM settings for GTA IV. If you set "-availablevidmem" to 2.0, that basically allows the game to use twice the amount of total RAM that it detects (i.e. the number that's displayed in the graphics menu). I've set it to that, and also made sure that the total graphics memory it is using with all the settings is below my available dedicated graphics memory, which is 1536MB (so in the game, my settings use up 1200-1300MB). I've found that if I go over 1300MB, my textures start disappearing, so I just left it below that—again, letting you know how unoptimized this game is, as it can't even use all of my dedicated graphics memory. (Or possibly other applications may also be using the VRAM as well, which is highly probable.) Since you did not "thoroughly" go through with my instructions, I presume then that you still haven't tried adding "-safemode" to the commandline.txt file either? If not, try it, as some people have reported back that it helped them by forcing the game to use the lowest settings possible. If this still doesn't work, then upgrading your hardware is the only option you have if you want to get better performance. I knew that from looking at his specs, that this computer wasn't made to run games, and so did the OP. He mentioned that it was a gift, and so he's trying to make do with what he has. Without upgrading, I don't see his laptop being able to run mods and have smooth FPS. That's why I suggested to get a desktop instead, but he said he's tight on money right now. I am aware that some of the newer laptops have this advanced sharing of total memory system between the CPU, GPU, etc., which as you said, means that there isn't really any true "dedicated" memory, and the lower frequency of the CPU was already bad news. But as I said, I'm a desktop guy, not a laptop guy, so I don't really have much advice for laptop users.

Low FPS on GTA 4
Well, like I've said and like you've tried, lowering your graphics settings is all you basically can do to increase your FPS, next to not running any mods on GTA IV. I don't know why the commandline.txt file didn't do anything for you, as it helped me. Before using it, I got around 60 FPS all the time, but now with it, I got GTA IV to use more of my GPU's dedicated graphics memory and can play around 80 FPS all the time. That's why I suggested it in the first place, because you can set for GTA IV to use more of your available VRAM than it actually uses, and I've checked this to be true using my EVGA Precision GPU monitoring tool. General suggestions would include not running any other programs in the background, making sure that your graphics card settings are all set to performance rather than to quality, and turning off power saving features that might be preventing your computer from utilizing certain features. I know not too many people do this when they get their computer...I had to help most of my friends optimize their laptops and desktops for gaming simply because they left all the CPU, GPU, and Windows settings that relate to performance at the default factory/stock settings, which are usually set to power saving and low performance. Other than that, unfortunately, there's not much you can do if you cannot get a desktop. I don't think buying a cooler will help with anything, since that only keeps temps down, which you say are already pretty low. The cooler isn't going to boost your performance or anything—only new hardware will do that. You can try looking at NVIDIA's mobile GPUs I guess, since I've always used NVIDIA's GPUs (especially ones made by EVGA) and had no problems with them, in contrast to ATI, which always gave me trouble with terrible software and drivers, not to mention terrible support.

LCPDFR Spotlight NEOLUX'S ENB
Sure thing! I'm not quite sure if I will be able to fix it myself, but I'll give it a shot. However, I think the best people to ask would be the ENBs' creators, since they are the one who made the mod and should now exactly what settings are controlling the interior lights in that fashion. LOL, nice one! Had a good laugh from that one!

Yup! WIP of texture mods are if you're interested. I haven't updated them in a while, but I've made quite major changes to them lately. Anyways, I think it uses both the Unitrol 80K and on some units the Whelen 295. I'm not particularly sure, but I've heard them often enough to know which ones they are when I go to sample FS's, Code 3's, and Whelen's sirens on their websites.

Alright, sounds good! I was just interested in the Rumber along with the SS2000 because that's what I've heard from NYPD videos. But, if you have other, newer equipment to work with that's what most police departments use nowadays, that that's even better! Ultimately, I wanted a siren to go along with the SFPD (San Francisco Police Department) ped and vehicle texture mods that I'm making, and I think it uses the Unitrol 80K, although I am unsure because there are very few videos of actual SFPD units in action to listen for what siren it uses. And since that's along the lines of what you're working on, that's great!

[TyMeLeSs][Rotations] Siren Productions
Is that so? Well, then I haven't been very successful in my hunt for FS SS2000 sirens, as I've only found one or two...they are decent, but not great, because they don't sound like how they do in real life. And I haven't found a decent one with Rumber, as the one I found has extremely bad sound quality. Any you can advise for me that are of higher quality? But, I'm still glad to see that you have many others in the works! I still can't wait to try them out!
-
[TyMeLeSs][Rotations] Siren Productions
That sounds great! I can't wait to try out those sirens! By the way, do you think you will ever do a better FS SS2000, and also one with the Rumbler System? Or maybe even the FS Unitrol 80K? I've been waiting for ones that are recorded in real life, because the mods we have now all use the sample sound files from the siren developers' websites, which don't sound like the real thing because that's how they made the sample files. Just curious!

Blurry vision when starting duty.
Oh that. I've actually never had to use it before, but I know what you mean. I think a previous configuration file allowed us to change that key as well, but the newer ones don't. I wonder if it still works...

LCPDFR Spotlight NEOLUX'S ENB
Nice to hear that it's working quite well for you! As for the lighting issue with the police station, that may be governed by a specific setting that I'm not aware of. I notice that when I enter it, the hallway leading to the door where you become an officer has one lighting setting, while when I go to the hall that leads to the chief's office, the lighting changes all of a sudden to something different. I think this is caused by the ENBs, as I've experienced the "too bright" indoors sometimes myself using iCEnhancer. Unfortunately, I do not know which setting(s) to change, but I'll continue to play around with the ENB, and if I find out, I'll let you know . Great! This will definitely lead people in the right direction should they decide to use this ENB!

Low FPS on GTA 4
I'm terribly sorry, but I don't recommend any kind of gaming on a laptop. You can easily upgrade, troubleshoot, etc. desktops, but the opposite is true for laptops. Furthermore, the upgrades you can make to a laptop are extremely limited—not to mention much more expensive—when compared to upgrading desktops. Hence, if you want to run GTA IV relatively well with loads of mods and things like that (or any other graphics intensive game, for that matter), I'd seriously consider getting a desktop instead. Therefore, I can unfortunately only recommend desktop parts, not laptop parts, as I solely build, OC, and troubleshoot desktops. However, other members here are more than welcome to help you out and give you insight on upgrading your laptop. I have zero experience dealing with laptops, and try to avoid them whenever possible for heavy duty computing and gaming.

Textures not loading!
Still, whenever you experience disappearing textures, the most probable reason for that is insufficient system resources. The reason why the setting I mentioned may work is because the models are forced to be preloaded into the game, so that there will be memory that's specifically allocated for the models, and thus loading other textures won't interfere with that. I've already told you where you can change this setting (see below). It is the configuration file for LCPD:FR is in the "Scripts" folder.

I've also customized all my ELS keys as well, so there are no conflicts with my script mods' shortcut keys and the game.

Your Worst Death While Playing LCPD:FR
Really? I've never had this happen before. I'll play around with GTA IV again this weekend to see if I get what you are talking about in my game. By the way, you should start a new thread for this support request, as it is deviating from the main topic of this thread.

I cant get GTA 4 to open!
Please read the stickies for troubleshooting problems first before posting a problem. You have failed to post a diagnostic report using the diagnostic tool, which will help aid us in troubleshooting your problem. There are way too many variables as to why your game is crashing, including unsuccessfully installing LCPD:FR, installing bad mods and/or mods conflicting with LCPD:FR, and missing essential components to run mods on GTA IV. Hopefully we can assist you further after you post this error log.

LCPDFR Spotlight NEOLUX'S ENB
Aside from minor lags and FPS drops, the graphics look pretty good! Yes, Neolux's ENBs are best with ELS, as he taylored them with care to make ELS look brilliant in his ELS-enhanced ENBs. Thanks for sharing it with others as well! If you want, you can also share your settings here so that others who come across this ENB may also enjoy it the way you are now! Are you planning to do a series of LCPD:FR patrol and pursuit videos using this ENB? That would be awesome, especially when commentary is included! Aww, you're absolutely welcome! I'm very happy I was able to bring to you a new mod to play around with, as well as assisted you in setting it up! Enjoy, and feel free to ask me anything about modding if you have any other questions in the future!

Low FPS on GTA 4
As far as I know, there is no way to change your dedicated graphics memory without upgrading your graphics card. This term basically means "the amount of memory on your GPU," so you'll have to physically change your hardware to change that amount. There is nothing you can do in Windows and in the BIOS to change this either, as it is a property of the hardware, not any software. As you can plainly see in your own screenshot, your total graphics memory is bigger than your dedicated graphics memory, which means that the GPU is already borrowing memory from the system RAM. Even if you can add more memory to the dedicated graphics memory via software (which I still don't think exists), that still will do you no good. Why? Because, as I've said before, GTA IV only uses memory that's physically on your GPU—so adding more memory through software from your RAM, page files, etc. will end up futile. This may not be the case with other games, and maybe for those, somehow adding more dedicated graphics via software works (and I'm not even sure if such a method exists), but this is not the case with GTA IV. You or someone else are welcome to correct me if I'm wrong. I've never seen anyone add more dedicated graphics memory via software, only via changing his/her GPU. If you can show me that screenshot and the method that you are talking about, then that'll be something sweet to see. But I just did a quick Google search for what you are describing, and I got negative results...

Your Worst Death While Playing LCPD:FR
No, I've not experienced that before. If my ped dies, he goes to the nearest hospital as usual, but any part of the callout that was in progress would have been deleted already, with the "Mission Failed" text on the bottom. The only thing that remains is a pursuit in progress, if you die while it is happening and if it is still in close enough proximity to you. But no, whenever my ped dies, everything that was associated to what I was doing in the callouts go away automatically.

Alternatively, you can go into the game's settings and change the button for the definition key. I changed it to "/" on my numpad, as it is something I will most likely never press while playing the game.

Textures not loading!
Have you tried setting "PreloadAllModels = False" to "PreloadAllModels = True" in the FirstResponse.ini configuration file? This helps some people prevent the disappearing textures problem. If that doesn't help, then probably you've installed more mods than your computer can handle, in which case I would take out all the mods, then put them back into the game one by one and seeing which one is causing you problems. If you want, list your computer specs here and also the mods you are using to see if your computer is sufficient for running those mods. From what I see so far, 2 total cores and 3GB total RAM isn't looking too good if you want to run GTA IV with mods...

Taser not working!!!
If you are getting a nail gun instead of a taser, then that means that LCPD:FR was installed incorrectly, since it was unable to install the taser model into your game. Did you receive any error messages when installing LCPD:FR? Did you also ran the installer as an administrator by right-clicking it and choosing "Run as Administrator" in the drop-down menu? You also have a script error, which indicates that the mod is having problems with your game. Are you running LaunchGTAIV.exe with the "Run as Administrator" property checked under the Compatibility tab? If not, check it and apply it. Also, have you marked your game's root directory as not "read-only?" To check for this, go to your game's install folder, right-click it, and look at the "Attributes" section near the bottom. Make sure that "read-only" is unchecked. Lastly, this should go under Support, not Discussion, because you are requesting help with this mod. Hope this helps you out!

Basically these two sentiments. See the screenshot below (click to see bigger one in my gallery) to see what I mean... Two units down (my partner and I) due to stupid AI...

Low FPS on GTA 4
No, the game does not take advantage of the total system graphics memory available. I have 16GB DDR3 with 1.5GB GDDR5 on the GPU, not to mention 16GB of page files (Windows virtual memory), totaling up to about 33GB of total system memory for programs to use. However, GTA IV is a very poorly ported game, and it only uses the total available dedicated graphics memory, which in my case is 1.5GB and in your case is 512MB. So I would say that your graphics card is the limiting factor here, with not enough memory to load the textures. Since you say you are running in windowed mode, I assume that you are also running with the lowest settings? Also, try to add this one more line to the commandline.txt file to see if it helps: -safemode Not sure if it'll work for you, but most likely you'll need to upgrade your graphics card if you want to run GTA IV with mods smoothly.
