  1. I already got told that, but thank you any way :)
  2. Thanks Sam, I'll have a look out for that mod. Very true, and as a person who does code I thank you for the API. I did in fact look at it a couple of times before posting this thread but, given all my experience is in java it would take me a while to learn the API, by which time a competent GTA IV modder would have achieved what I wanted more than likely. So I will be looking out for certain script authors to port over to the API. I haven't tested it, purely because unless the website says "1.01 released" or something similar it is safe to say they haven't been fixed yet.
  3. Yes a valid point I agree, and yes your other point about it being entirely down to the devs, only true to an extent. If the entire community said "we don't like traffic stops" would they keep traffic stops in and pee everyone off? Or change it? In terms of fun for everyone I understand that too, but I'm thinking for those who like to roleplay the game more...which taking a good look at the number of community "Clans" would suggest lots of people use this for roleplay not just an arcade police game. If I wanted an arcade police game I would go get True Crime :P I understand that too, but I don't think it would be a step back. The INI file says "MaximumCopCarsInPursuit = 5" well to be honest I wish I had taken a screenshot of a couple of my chases, more than 5 police cars in a few of them. HOWEVER, I was initially unaware that these existed in the INI because when I first checked it, it had about 4 options (didn't think to check it after running the game) so I will adjust it to my liking. I am in a way yes, but at the other side of it, I'm not. For the end user anyway... Searching a car in a traffic stop for example does add complications to the process, but it also adds dynamics. Do 20 minutes of JUST traffic stops alone and suddenly it becomes a chore rather than fun, "I pulled you over for speeding, check your license, run it on the computer, it's fine, give it back, pay a citation. Drive away" it just makes me want to close the game down sometimes. When it crashes after 20 minutes I feel like "meh, was getting bored anyway" but that is just me. Yes I know there is some dynamics, chance for a pursuit, chance for an expired license etc. But some little extras that the player can opt into like detain the suspect and search their car. It makes role play, it makes creativity and that to me is fun :) So yes overall I do respect that it has to be what the majority wants, but that's the purpose of this thread. I throw out some ideas, see who takes to them, see who doesn't. Thank you for your feedback too :)
  4. I'm going to snip a lot of your post out of my quote for readability and target the main points, thank you for your feedback as well. I completely understand all of your points and like you said, it is all a matter of opinion. So here goes: Yes, I see it exactly. I'm actually doing a degree in computer science, although at the moment we're being taught the basics of java so not much use to GTA IV modding. So I do understand that more stuff = more bugs = more testing = more complaints = more feature ideas to fix complaints = more bugs etc etc etcVicious cycle. But it's the cycle that software developers have to go through permanently. It's resource heavy, it's costly if you're a paid company and it takes time. In this situation it is merely a matter of putting your eggs in the right basket so to speak. That's why I put the tweaks first, because new stuff I can live without but some things do need little tweaks. And in terms of bugs, yes I've witnessed crashes but no more frequently for me than 0.95 RC2 used to crash. I haven't tested it with other mods purely because the previews and what not of 1.0 made it seem like I wouldn't need any of them. I also don't enjoy changing the ped models or the car models too much because I find they aren't that stable and have caused many memory crashes before hand for me. It's a shame, would have been nice but then Rockstar never have done "Friendly to the modding community" all that well have they. They are far too reckless, I wish Rockstar would have considered more realistic police AI given that their game's title is based off a criminal illegal action. Derp. but then that said, this is a game where you can whip a rocket launcher out of your a** and blow up a helicopter and only get the attention of a single cop. I do agree that some units need to be there, like you say other officers have called it in already, hence the control callout to other units. But preferably not an army of LCPD's "finest" :P I've used that and it is a very good mod, but again I was hoping to get something, like you said, a little more expectable.the only way I can see the default roadblock feature working is if you are called into a pursuit heading in your direction. But then that limits the likelyhood of ever using a roadblock. Because, look at the previous point. Too many police cars spawn in already, making your roadblock sit in a random location after you and half a dozen other cars have driven past. I have to dispute this one, I don't ever remember seeing a blue arrow spawn next to anything, nor do I ever remember seeing a white GPS line in the default game. 1.0 is the first time I've ever seen both of those. But even if I'm wrong, use one of the other colours please. I shouldn't have to use a mod that requires using more memory and resources to change something because they chose a bad colour. (No offence to the dev's but white on shades of grey is asking for trouble, what about all those colorblind?) Can't say I've heard of such a mod, I know of ones which let you control the doors etc, but nothing that lets you search cars. I will look into that, thanks. As for the breathalyser, I know of that one, but haven't tested with 1.0 purely because I didn't want to be adding more mods yet. And yes it may well work in tandem nicely, but my point was more aimed at the fact that, let's say I use bravehearts script + the vpCallouts script both with lcpdfr. I'm now using 3 different callsigns for my officer, 3 different event handlers and 3 different areas of my screen for callouts each of them not knowing the other exits so having up to 3 callouts at a time. I could go on, but it just gets silly. the homeless people causing trouble wasn't actually the callout I was referring to here, that's simple you target all 3 of the homeless people and ask them to move on. I can deal with that. The callout I got was a drunk chap, staggering about. And him and all the other peds around the area were "saying" things, had text appear small above their heads. I could have targeted each one and held E then gone through the menu's to ask them to move on, but there as 6 or 7 of them around plus non-involved peds standing around watching the drunk guy, I then had a drunk ped all over the pavement so targeting him was a nightmare. It would of been handy to just say "move on everyone", similar in a way to how you can now stop traffic in a small radius. Thank you for your post, I do appreciate it. Wil see what other people have to say about the points raised too. :)
  5. So after playing with 1.0 for a few hours I've noticed a couple of things which could do with a tweak, and a couple of things which I think would extend the role playing side of things more. Tweaks Add dialog for the text mode when you ALT + E at the end of a pursuit. Would act as a visual confirmation for the player. The cop usually says "stop rubber-necking" when he is updating control, then control responds with text saying "received". Would be nice just to have a message saying "[Officer ___ ] Control, suspects apprehended, resuming patrol." or something. The options during a traffic stop could be better defined to accommodate the new license plate scanner, E.g Combine dangerous driving and speeding options into 1, add a new one called "routine checks" in which you don't run their license, instead they get out of the car and become detained allowing you to search the car etc. During a pursuit, limit the number of police cars initially spawned in on the chase. I joined a chase once and there was already 6 police cars tailing him....or rather causing havoc thanks to the hard coded AI. Me joining the chase (from a callout) was pretty much pointless given that the suspect was surrounded, upside down and pretty much parked on top of a police car. To add to the above point, prevent all other police cars not initially spawned into the chase event from joining it. This way the player gets to do more of the chasing and call in the backup if it's needed. Again, 6 cars in a chase already + me + every single cop car I overtake getting to the pursuit is just silly, chase over before I've even got there :( Change the roadblock mechanics to spawn in at a given waypoint, my experience is it requests the roadblock where you're current location is. Which 9 times out of 10 is behind the pursuit and thus useless. PLEASE DO THIS ONE: Change the colour of the waypoint line when driving a suspect back to the station, it's white which on most roads I can't actually see it. Maybe blue to match the parking lot's icon that appears outside the station. Traffic Stop Extras Add option to search the vehicle (not just the boot/trunk): Player must get in the car and press E to conduct a search, after a few seconds it would report a finding, or no finding if clear. This would add to the ability to use the ANPR/ALPR. You could pull a car over that was in a hit and run, detain the driver in your police car then search his car for weapons or illegal items. Unless you have something to hide, why would you run from the collision to start with? :) While a driver is detained in your police car, you could get into the car with them and investigate them (like how you can when you aim and hold E) Breathalyser, I've seen other threads asking for this (yes I know it is included in some mods too) but an official LCPDFR one would work better with lcpdfr stops. Simple-er Lighting mode For the non-ELS users, I know we have the 3 different lighting functions. But is it perhaps possible to add a configuration to this, so the player can select in the config file either default LCPFR lighting modes or simple lighting modes. Eg. in the config file: Lighting-mode: DEFAULT //Choose either DEFAULT or SIMPLE This new mode would basically toggle the siren active or not (while the default GTA siren/light combo is active). In other words, you press G to turn sirens and lights on, then press L (for example) to toggle the siren sounds off and on. Pressing G again will turn it all off and default back to normal so that when you next press G sirens and lights is active by default. Extra Command for the Quick Action Wheel We already have the command that orders everyone to evacuate an area, but when you're dealing with a drunk guy that's getting shouted at by an angry mob I don't want them to "evacuate" which makes them all run away screaming. I want to be able to order everyone to move along as normal and leave me to deal with the guy who is lay on the floor. I think that is everything for now. Let me know what you guys think of my ideas etc, even if you hate the ideas tell me why because feedback is good. Saying "this suck's because..." is helpful, just saying "this idea sucks" isn't :)
  6. I've attached my log files as the file told me to report this... Crash Report - "System.NullReferenceException" Snippet of the error from the log below (full log is attached). This one caused my game to crash. I'm pretty certain this was a result of my trying to use the lighting modes which I know has already been reported but wasn't sure if this was the cause or not. The FIRST spoiler was from an unknown crash, it was not caused by the lighting, I was approaching a pursuit callout along the highway on the 3rd island, caused the game to freeze graphics, then after a few seconds freeze the audio and I had to end the process in the task manager to get it to close. The second spoiler is from the lighting error, I think... I also found this, no idea what this was referring to sadly so cannot describe the situation GetAudioFileForAction: No file found... Not a huge issue as never caused a crash, but certainly an eyesore in the console (which I use for repairing my car, OCD with headlights being smashed etc, really drives me nuts lol) With it being the audio files I can only assume it's the random radio chatter, I'll name a few which got flagged up below. SAN_JUAN_RD NICKEL_ST UNITS_REPORT PYRITE_ST PLUMBERS_SKYWAY Traffic Stop Glitch - Didn't fully register Only happened once so far but, nonetheless it happened. Using the ANPR, ALPR...thing. The license plate scanner. Pulled up a car with "illegal license plates", initiated the traffic stop and they pulled over, walked over to the car, went through steps F9 (not roadworthy), F9 (check license), F9 (run license) I got back into my car, checked the license on the database and then proceeded to exit the database and went to leave my car. The bug occurred here, as the police computer exited and I was returned to my normal game screen, the pulled over vehicle proceeded to drive away as if the traffic stop was cancelled. I never pressed shift, I didn't even get to press F because the suspect car literally just decided to drive off. There was no blip or indication that he was evading me, and when I used shift to pull him over again it responded fine. Text based reports spammed itself I use the text mode because having all the text in the top right hand corner looks clean and I prefer it. I joined a callout pursuit which went straight to the driver being on foot within a second or 2 of me accepting the callout, I arrived at the scene to find the expected shootout and police cars everywhere, the text mode bit suddenly got spammed with updates saying he was on foot (by spammed I mean about 6 or 7 lines of "Suspect on foot") as if the system was hanging and failed to update it at the right times. Didn't cause a crash or error as such, wasn't a problem but again just something small I thought I would flag up. Some extra information just in case it helps: - I use the steam version of GTA IV (patch 1.0.7.0) - Clean install today, no other mods running, no texture changes, no re-models of cars/peds. - I use windows 7 (x64) Hope the above is useful to the developers, I don't need any support on how to solve the problems, this isn't a "halp my game brok3d" post. But obviously if someone knows how to fully fix any of the above issues I'll be happy to try the solutions out. And if this does happen to be a duplicate I'm sorry, I read through the first 25 post titles looking for something which indicated a match to my findings, read a couple of them but they didn't match so I posted it anyway. EDIT:
  7. I'm a computer scientist, if a UI bothers me it will bother me a lot.
  8. I use windows 7 64x on my desktop. I wont ever get win8 on here because I absolutely hate win8. I do have win8 on my laptop because it was a new buy, I'm forced to cope with it but feels like its eating my soul when I'm on it. Chances are when I next use my laptop I will get the 8.1 update purely because of the option to boot to the desktop by default, that way I can avoid the tile start menu as much as possible. I really genuinely hate windows 8. For the same reason I hate the windows phone, that start menu is just horrible. In my opinion anyway. There really is, like many have said, no need to upgrade windows 7 to 8. The only reason you would consider that idea is if you decided to melt your dekstop down and glue a touch screen monitor to your face. Android for touch screens. 7 for PC's. That's how I think.
  9. I run quite moderately modded usually. I upgraded my graphics card which meant I could run more than 1 high poly car texture (although this gpu is now becoming redundant with the new line of GTX series.) In terms of mods I use all the police helper stuff and bravehearts scripts, indicators etc. I use a dumbed down version of ENB series to enhance graphics a little bit but not too much. Because graphics mods don't work too well on 1.0.7.0. But LCPDFR needs 1.0.7.0. I don't use ELS because I spend 2-3 days finding the exact cars I want then load them in the game to find the lights are 100% crap. Its like shining a torch with an almost dead battery through a brick. They often don't line up properly either from what I noticed. (And yes I am aware that's probably an error on my behalf not the mod dev's or modelers, but I've had so many els issues I just gave up with trying. I had a similar issue with CLEO on GTA SA back in the day.) As for the current openIV sparkIv debate going on up there ^ BACKUPS. :) If you aren't gifted with the beauty of being able to download and install all of GTA IV in 20 minutes then backup the vehicle files. (what is it vehicles.img? something like that, the one you edit with custom cars) Or do what I do, make a copy of the entire GTA IV directory then archive it in a compressed folder to save "some" space. That way when your modding goes tits up you can just uncompress the files and bam, gta IV clean install in 2 minutes.
  10. I guess you've never watched Team America and don't get the joke then. Also just for the record I didn't call it "murica" I called it "'murica" that little ' before the m means I've purposely skipped the letter A.
  11. One issue. Siri and other voice command software fails, yes I agree. But it fails having taken a full companies development resources to produce multilingual software. That means they've used the software to record people's attempts at usage so they can improve the AI's code. I mean no disrespect to the potential author, if he pulls this off and it works without us all screaming into a mic angrily I will eat my socks. But I think it will be a long time before such a mod becomes useable by the majority. And there will be those who can't use it. To the OP, I wish you the best of luck with this project, you've got to put in a lot of hours recording and dealing with accents and languages though. :)
  12. You're probably right, there is no way any one of those cops would be thinking "is he diabetic?" Its what we call in british law an aggravating factor. (something which makes the situation worse than it already is) We have that problem in the UK as well sadly. Even with our ridiculously strict laws the police find some loophole which says they weren't being too forceful. Another problem we have over here is that we have very little court cases about it anyway, because when something like that happens people tend to hide away. I've heard its different in America, apparently people like to sue each other for whatever reason they can find. I don't know how much of that is true, but I know its certainly not the case in the UK :)
  13. Firstly, yes I can see you corrected your stance on the video so I'm not arguing I'm just pointing things out from my perspective. But personally, in that video there was no need to have half as many cops on top of that guy as there was. And the way I see it in no circumstance should "rough justice" warrant kicking a guy in the face especially when you're doing f**k all to help restrain the guy (0:50 right side) or swinging your knee into someones chest multiple times (the 2 officers left side after 0:50). The fact he was having a diabetic shock is irrelevant, you shouldn't be applying force like that even if the guy is a 6ft body builder. An arm lock would have sufficed, which one person can do while a second applies cuffs. To get back on topic to the OP: Its a lot different here in the UK clearly, we have much stricter laws governing the whole situation. (we have a lot stricter laws for everything come to think of it, some are too strict) In the UK all 3 of those in the video would have been suspended from active duty and probably fired altogether given the video evidence. The suspect would have rights here in British legislation to take the police department to court. You're talking a section 47 ABH or even possible a section 20 GBH (Both under the Offences Against a Person Act) depending on his injuries. If he managed to come out of that unharmed then it would be much less of a sentence. Just thought I would throw in some extra information on the differences because I saw a comment about being wusses saying "Not just in the USA, but all over the world." You shouldn't need to kick anyone in the first place :)I'm a pacifist lol.
  14. 'MMURRRIIICCCAAAAA!!! Sorry I had to, couldn't resist :) I'm not going to start a war about how its because Americans carry guns and its stupid blah blah blah, we all know the internet fight about it. (well people on youtube do) This sh... happens in the UK too just without guns, instead we get "religious" nutcases who butcher soldiers to death with machete's. Yes it did happen. Its unfortunate that we have so many people in the world who are so anti-everything that they feel the need to be a massive boob. :/
  15. Nice post, and some excellent points being made. Although on a massively downscaled game (and completely different community to this) I know Mojang (developers of a popular sandbox game, Minecraft) have been incorporating things which were originally seen in mods made by the community, effectively "ripping off" the community mod makers. The way they cope is by expanding the core features to make their mod stand out above the very badly done version the developers did. (PLEASE NOTE: I have never played GTA V, nor have I watched ANY user content videos of it on YouTube, I'm saving it all as a surprise for when I have the money to buy it. Therefore everything below is speculation) Ok so my point? Well hopefully the LCPDFR team will take these huge changes made by Rockstar as a challenge to beat them. Yes ok ELS is likely to be pretty much redundant now given what you say about how lighting has changed in GTA V Maybe he can adjust the default to give us nicer control over it? Think ELS control panel for a no longer constantly refreshing car state (no more funky doors) In other words ELS plus the improved lighting could equal the best ELS we've ever seen. In terms of other mods a few smaller ones will go bust, sadly. Unless they can thrive off what has been taken from them and make it better than the new default, only time will tell. Car models? nobody will give up with these, there are too many talented artists out there. And yes, you are artists, texture makers and modellers. GTA V might have nicer, better cars which are more obvious to the eye as a car we know in real life. but Rockstar have always been known for breaking the potential for scandal by removing subtle features of their cars. Why? Licensing. God knows how much it would cost them to get rights to put a car brand in the game. This is where our modellers come into it. They don't have any licensing to worry about, so we will always get our branded, better car versions from them. LCPDFR, the big one. again I have no idea how Rockstar have done the policing, I don't even know how it all works. But LCPDFr is big. Hopefully we'll see an entirely new approach to the mod in GTA V, something less reliant on hotkeys and more integral and part of the system or maybe something more realistic? Who knows. Those are my opinions, and speculation. One thing can be garuanteed from my perspective though, "if" GTA V never comes to PC....GTA IV will always have some disk space reserved.
  16. Back again, confirmation that if you eat from a vendor it removes blood. But be careful about it because pressing E also asks them to surrender :P So sometimes you no get food :(
  17. If they're making a game that is so massively open including support for mobile users to join in the game, why would they make it different for any particular platform? (excluding the mobile users that is) I don't understand why you're calling BS. Sorry. It is a pretty cool idea, but its something everyone appears to be doing all of a sudden. you can do it in BF4 as well. Its called "second screen gaming" according to microsoft. :) But yes, it is a pretty cool idea if done correctly :) Back on topic, this game looks pretty good :)
  18. I found this on the interwebs Apparently these things remove the blood. Can't prove it though as I'm not in the game to test it. I also saw an interesting comment of someone saying "walk through a carwash" but couldn't tell if it was sarcasm or if it was a bug which occurred lol EDIT: After playing for 20 minutes I still cannot verify they work....because I spent the entire 20 minutes messing with ENB settings. :)
  19. Maybe so, but I still don't follow why any company would give away an iPhone 4s for free even now its still £200 - £300. the only thing I can assume is that the user is missing a catch price somewhere. Like how on the US store it is "from $0" for the phone but you HAVE to buy an unlocked contract which is £300+ otherwise no phone for you.
  20. I don't understand how you've managed to get that, but you can also get the iphone 4s for free apparently. No such page here in the UK. Is that on a specific thing? And br100x, yep. Pretty much :) Nice little sales pitch there about the s4 ;) Its either that or the HTC one that I get when my contract is up for renewal. Probably the s4 as htc have had reliability issues from what I've seen of them. I'm so getting the iphone 20 when it comes out :P
  21. I'm sorry but I think you might have found the child's pretend phone if its only $99. Its still on the apple store as £500 for me, so its still overpriced shit. My personal opinion is don't ever get an apple product, ever. You end up paying 2x as much for it because apple always puts its products 2x higher on the price bands. I'll be getting an android phone when my contract is ready for upgrade. Android can do exactly the same as any iphone can and doesn't limit you hopelessly to apple-only everything. You ruin your iPhone and they say "we need to have it checked by apple people only, nobody else, but we are going to charge you 100x the price of a normal phone repair guy to do it" I soft-bricked my android tablet not so long ago, googled how to fix it and was done within an hour. I would never buy anything apple. Just because its not worth it in my eyes, you're pretty much buying it for the apple on the back and an 'i' in its name. And to br100x (I didn't click multi-quote, should have) They certainly are, their shares plummeted recently and their net worth as a company decreased too. Android (google's new mobile OS) has 2 thirds of the smartphone market, so Apple is getting hit hard because like me, more and more people are enjoying the open minded happy approach of android and the larger variety of smartphones available to them. You can tell they're under pressure too. Look at when they released the iphone 5. It was a few mm taller and a little bit thinner with very little other changes. but that was a "new" phone. I'm sure we've all seen the evolution if iphone predicted And of course the iphone's newest feature in development....the iphone-saber http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/23460iC1FA3A60C5B05D2E/image-size/medium?v=mpbl-1&px=-1 Think I've finished ranting now. :)
  22. Ahh ok ,thought so. No good for me given that I only ever play sp :P but even so it looks good. Although I would suggest perhaps adding images or skins to it so it seems a little more like a network police tool. Because to me it looks like a simple vb.net windows forms build :) Other than my critique for style, a very good job. :)
