Prostitution is legal in the UK, and I agree with it being so. In terms of GDP, it makes up a surprisingly high percentage (still very low) for a single job that remains to be so unpopular among so many.
There is a clear correlation between the levels of prostitution and acquisitive crime, where those areas with more prostitutes have lower such crime. This, of course, is a good thing. However, we have also seen in our LPA that drug use has increased along with the amount of known prostitutes we have.
From the encounters I've had with Ladies and Men of the night, they have all been decent people who have taken what they do seriously and do their best to keep themselves clean from STI's and so on. I generally find that it is the people who use prostitutes to be much less desirable (although some are of course more than decent) and when cases where prostitutes are killed by their customers come to light I always feel that perhaps making it illegal would be a good idea - not that it would stop a murdered, but perhaps the person who was contemplating entering prostitution.
Like anything else, there are negative and positives to such things, but like my Economics teacher said ' the world revolves around sex' so I figure that it will always be around, much like drugs and alcohol, so why make it illegal?
