I had peaked interest into this game when I first heard of it, then I heard of what EA did to it and I decided my money would have much more value spent on something worthwhile.
Sadly, it isn't the first time greedy EA have ruined a potentially great game, I'll take a more recent example;
Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012)
Let me start off by saying that Criterion is one of the best British video game companies around today, they gave us the moderately good Burnout series and finished it off with the epic Burnout: Paradise which I've clocked well over 800+ hours on since its release.
Need for Speed is a brilliant game, most people are calling it a Burnout Paradise 2 which indeed can be proven true to certain points due to some dynamics, one of them being the driving engine, no loading screens online and the shutting down of rival cars to add them to your garage.
What really took this game down for me was what EA did, on the DISC is this little beauty:
Thing is, EA decided:
"Hey guys, how about if we take this car and lock it so that players will have to buy a Slim Jim to get a code to unlock it"
"But aren't Slim Jims only available in America? What about the fans in Europe?"
"Fuck them. Who gives a shit, restrict this car to American owners only, who cares if they paid £40 for the game"
And yes, they actually did that.
