It's a good idea, yes, however there are a few theoretical limitations* preventing that:
You're asking for a dynamic texture to show up in a car, where you can only assign static textures by limitation of the game engine. (The vehicle dashboard is the exception.) In order for the GPS to be on the MDT you'd have to assign countless static textures for every turn and have them flip around as you move around the world, which is also theoretically impossible* - or create a dynamic menu over the MDT itself in the game world which would be tedious in and of itself, given that you would have to do that for literally every police cruiser mod that comes out. In order for the player to actually hunch over and access the MDT you would need to edit animations, a thing which - as far as I'm aware - is also only in the theoretical stages at this point. Accessing the MDT would be a pain if you're recording with the Rockstar Editor, as you wouldn't be able to change camera angle if you forgot to halt recording. Unfortunately, as far as I can see, the LCPDFR (the one that takes place in Liberty City, typing this out for redundancy) MDT screen that we had is probably about as close as we're going to be able to get to what you're asking.

TheHardGamer101 reacted to officerAMR in Be able to run names without typing itThats what i'm getting at, maybe have one for people who like to type super long names 'Reginald Kuznetsov' and have an option for lazy buggers like me who would rather call it in.

TheHardGamer101 reacted to LukeD in Be able to run names without typing itI always find these suggestions amusing.
I've seen so many threads now that either have "hey I don't want to type in names can we have a feature that does it automatically" or "Hey I like typing crazy shitloads of words and things can we have a feature that lets us fill in reports because microsoft word isn't good enough and I'm a mentalist"
....I think I just had a crazy moment
Anywho, radio in suspect feature might be better tweaked to doing the automatic name search, and police computer for the elite essay writers, but that's just my opinion.

TheHardGamer101 reacted to TheUniT in Be able to run names without typing itI personally like trying to type in these horribly weird exotic names. Well, I don't like it too much but I don't mind it either. It's those things that make the duty different too. It can be funny trying to type long names before the notification disappears.
About the LCPDFR feature, you could get the ID of a person and then call it in to dispatch who would then check it for you. I always did it because of some weird laziness symptoms but I wouldn't ever do it again thinking of it now.
You can, but you still have to type it into the box yourself. @officerAMR is talking about a feature that does it all for you because it would be very convenient for controller users.
I do use one for driving too but as said above, I don't mind typing it. :D

TheHardGamer101 reacted to CouthInk4 in Be able to run names without typing itThis is already a feature? It's been a while since i've played 0.3 although i do believe you can radio in the suspects details.

TheHardGamer101 reacted to officerAMR in Be able to run names without typing itIf i remember correctly back in LCPDFR you could press a key and it would run the name of the person you just got ID off of.I think it would be nice to have this feature back again for Controller users like myself that constantly have to switch between keyboard and controller.
And it would mean that i wouldn't have to spend 2 mins trying to spell some crazy long exotic name :P

I've just begun working on my first callouts pack: Coastal Callouts. Currently there isn't much going on at sea in LSPDFR, and I'm working to change that. This will be a callouts series focusing on marine patrols and incidents. I'm planning to eventually have enough to make a boat-based marine patrol fun and interesting, but the callouts will also be designed so that a land-based unit could respond to a dock, grab a boat (or maybe a helicopter or something else), and then head to the scene.
Callouts will include law enforcement and SAR missions, both in the ocean and on beaches, in ports, and around the terminal and docks.
For all you modders out there, if anybody's interested in collaborating, shoot me a PM. I have some ideas already for specific sub-functionality which could be tackled by individual contributors and would make development move much quicker.
If you have suggestions, please let me know! Again, this is very early in the process, I'm still scoping out good locations for callouts and brainstorming what to put in them. So, it's a good time to make your ideas heard!
UPDATE DEC 2019: COASTAL CALLOUTS IS NOW RELEASED!
And, check out these first two Coastal Callouts episodes by @Darkmyre and @Albo1125
