I personally think everything aside from the graphics are better in Grand Theft Auto 4. This video above has a vast amount of unbiased side by side comparison clips for anyone to judge. I really do think IV is superior in every-way aside from it's graphics. I honestly even personally prefer the dark gritty Liberty City tone over bright and over saturated modern Los Santos. Then again that's just me. However i do acknowledge V has the graphics here. However IV's gameplay is far superior, the version of Natural Motions Euphoria Engine was implemented much better in IV also. The ped physics are unmatched by any i have seen, along with the intense vehicle model damage capabilities. And as well the vehicles in IV actually handle more realistically, with differing weight and suspensions, no turning on a dime like an RC car. (GTA V). Also when it comes to the hand to hand combat, IV has V beat easily. V has like two basic attacks and one repetitive corny kick. IV has unique dodge counter moves, combinations as well as light and heavy attacks. When the guns come out IV comes out on top as well, without the ability to use auto aim, and NO recovering health. I know i am clearly biased, however bare in mind the video above in question is not. I would prefer to play GTA IV or LCPD:FR offline by myself than grind and watch explosion deaths on GTA 5 Online any day. What are your thoughts?, which title was your favorite and which do you think was better and why?.

Below is an interesting comment i found on the above video that is rather in depth.

Spoiler

Why GTA 4 is better: 1. Better written characters 2  Better story 3. Better driving physics 4. Better damage model (vehicles) 5. Better melee fighting system 6. No recovering health 7. No overpowered special abilitys 8. Only one playable character 9. Faster loading 10. Better ending(s) 11. Better crowded city 12. More and better moral decisions to make 13. No social media & smartphone bullsh*t 14. Infinite Vigilante 15. Good looking super cars/sports cars 16. Pedestrians don't call the police on you for standing next to them 17. No terminator accuracy police 18. Better multiplayer with more options to mess with 19. Niko Bellic. 20. Funnier quotes from pedestrians. 21. Better ragdoll physics, I still lmao when people fall after I ran into them or in the train station stairs. 22. Pickable random objects and you can throw them at people. 23. Pool. 24. Bowling. 25. A lot of friends and better friend activities and things to do with them, even if they don't like something you can still go there and do it. 26. Better subway. 27. Funny cops (fat cops mostly). 28. Beaten mode in pedestrians after the bars in the health circle are gone. 29. Better and limited amount of ammo and weaponry (more realistic) 30. Better indirect connections between the main protagonists. 31. The feel of being a real criminal 32. No unlikable protagonists. (Luis is a cantidate actually, but I will cut him some slack because 25 missions may noy have been enough to develop him as a character. Besides, the guy is f*cking hilarious. "Oye you making my eyes water man, you ugly". Also, I like his screams for some reason. "SHIIIIIIIIIIT! NO, NO, NOOOOOOOOOO! AHHHHHHHHH!" Plus, I really liked when he stood up for Brucie.) (Niko and Johnny need no explanation for why they are awesome. Michael is O.K. but his character is sometimes inconsistant. Franklin is f*cking boring, and Trevor is the worst of them all.) 33. YELLOW CAR!! 34. You can kick people in the nuts as one of the fighting moves for when you dodge and counter-attack 35. Much more fun to ride a helicopter. In V it was not fun because you had that stupid turbulence. The turbulence should at least be removed if you max out the flying stats of your character. 36.. Focus was on SP rather than online. 37. City is more realistic to NY 38. City feels more alive 39. More criminal related activities 40. Better crime activities on streets 41. Better police system 42. Better shooting system 43. Being able to crouch 44. Hotdogs 45. Burgershot 46. Cluckin Bell 47. LCHC (Hardcore Punk and many genres of Metal) 48. Johnny Klebitz 49. Jim Fitzgerald 50. Clay Simons 51. Terry Thorpe 52. Nightclubs 53. Immersion 54. Air Hockey 55. Rewards for friend outings 56. Funnier pedestrian comments(again) 57. Better choice of clothing (sometimes more isn't better) 58. A heist that was actually for yourself 59. Less government activity 60. That ear ringing sound from explosions Longer, better written and more meaningful story. Characters to like and actually care about. Cars actually get deformed when crashing. Better selection of cars (more sedans and coupes, with tuner variants) and more diverse controls. Motorcycles are actually useful in IV, and more fun than V for that matter. V has way too much super cars and the cars all feel the same, they all drive as sports cars. A wooden AK and better gun selection. Combat Pistol in IV was a Desert Eagle, in V it's a USP or something. Better gun sounds. No military and government interactions, except for the UL Paper contact - but he wasn't exactly making you do Call of Duty-esque missions (i.e. GTA V's "Monkey Business") and he actually helps you in the end. More realistic ragdoll and pedestrian damage effects (they can limp away after beaten too hard and hold their wounds after being shot too much compared to V where they just die.). Better melee combat system. Better map (V is bigger, not better. Don't confuse the two). More minigames, such as pool and bowling, more friends to hangout and more meaningful conversations with them. More interiors and an actual eating option. No health regeneration. I prefer simple cops over terminator cops, so the cop system is better in IV. Better soundtrack and Lazlow was actually funny. Richard Bastion was pretty good too. More side-jobs. An online mode more focused on fun and less on milking their fans for money.   Honestly, the only thing V does better than IV without question is graphics... V came out 5 years after IV, so OBVIOUSLY it's going to. Every. Single. Other thing. Is arguably (remember; arguably) better in IV than it is in V.

GTA IV:

Game-spirit wise? Dark and gritty LC, narrow alleys covered with trash, Brighton Beach, Russian swearing, rich central island. Plot-wise GTA IV also offers more realistic and more dark story: an illegal immigrant blindly seeking revenge, working for anyone who pays. No big deal, no "king of the mountain", no millions, no robbing federal reserve, no stupid clown nonsense, almost (almost!) no Deus Ex Machina plot twists (Trevor Phillips kills the strip club manager and owns the place, ohahahaha, so funny (nope). Hate this part of GTA V).

However, bank robbery in GTA IV is so damn boring. No planning, no preparation, 6 minutes of shooting. And after San Andreas and 10 casino heist preparation missions? You must be kidding me. You better be.

Don't forget GTA IV has also working subway system! Tram in LS in V is a stupid joke which makes you waiting for 10 real life minutes (10 game hours) for a damned train.

Gameplay wise? GTA IV sucks. So many errors with proper models, so many missed details (LCPD in Alderney is the most notable), so many crashes, so hard to mod (remember the taxi bug?)

GTA V:

Interesting but cliched plot, replaying for the second time is almost no fun.

Nice landscape and surroundings, interesting to drive and walk around. However, doesn't affect me the way LC did. However, I love GTA V map, it's really nice.

Not much to do apart from the missions. Minigames are boring (why the fuck did they take the pool out? Damn!), drunk driving is no fun, no trucking missions even though the map is calling for it.

However, the game is built to last. I extremely appreciate its modability.

Resume:

To remember and re-play to light the feelings? GTA IV. To play? GTA V.

And lcpdfr is better than lspdfr to add to that list, but that's just me.

Same here.

I know this might sound stupid but GTA IV has a more GTA typic kind of energy. Dark and morbid with all the russian gangs and albanians, jaimaicans, irish and all that. Not a lot of glitter like you see in V. Not only in Vinewood. Idk to me even Davis doesnt sound or feel like a dangerous place to be.

Now the Brighton beach in LC? Holy crap, you would never say a beach could be spooky. And the weather is mostly grey and peds act more accordingly.

You really see the underbelly of LC with alleys, abandoned spots, poverty... to me its a more down to Earth game which for LCPDFR is perfect. And if you dont wanna feel so much darkness, you just go to Algonquin. I might go through all the trouble again to install LCPDFR. I just love the map, the physics and mods. A lot of more animations for example and scenarios

The major thing that throws me off though is the optimization. Its just awful for PC good Lord...

I only chose GTA V because as of now, I find it to be more versatile and modular in terms of modding. Great mods such as EUP, Menyoo, and other countless mods couldn't really be achieved in GTA IV. Also, GFWL, most annoying piece of shit ever.

Also 5 star wanted level + Vladivostok FM = best thing ever.

But if those were taken out of the equation, GTA IV hands down. Who doesn't like riding a boat off skyscrapers or getting spam called by Roman and yelling "YELLOW CAR!"

NakeyJakey did a good vid on this:

So all in all, GTA IV for fun and nostalgia, GTA V for modding.

I was so sold on GTA IV but i already have 90 hours on V and playing LSPFR alone. The modification amount is just amazing. So much more to do in V's LSPDFR. I have to agree with you man. I love IV so much and it's vehicle system and destruction and physics. But V is a major improvement in more ways than not.
