Non-ELS Carcols cars?

Recommended Posts

How's it goin LSPDFR??

It's been a hot minute since I have done any car modding, and I know ELS is the hot thing these days.

Would you guys still use non-ELS cars with the old school carcols settings? I am trying to gauge the interest.

I would not.  Coming from someone who didn't play modded GTA IV and whose first experience with ELS is in GTA V, I'd never go back to non-ELS.  Primarily because the vanilla lights, even with fancy carcols, doesn't look that good imo.  Plus, I like the functionality of only having TA on, or code 2 lights.  ELS can be a bit more complicated and annoying, but its features make up for that.

Cool, that was some of the feedback I was looking for!

I actually 75% disagree. ELS is essentially abandoned at this point and the bugs will probably never get fixed. I was an ELS believer, but at this point, pretty much anything that can be done with ELS can be done with carcols if you work hard enough at it. I think having the car components outweighs having lightstages. Plus, anyone who owns a FiveM server would be happy to see non-els cars, since 99.5% of non-els cars out there aren't particularly great.

While I agree with the majority of this, I just love the way ELS functions, the light stages along with the satisfying clicks or beeps, being able to flip just your TA on, or takedowns/alleys. While ELS certainly needs work I still prefer it. With my newest vehicles i'm tending to use a mix of default and ELS.

ELS does have some bugs, but none of them are game breaking or require an immediate fix.  While ELS does sometimes randomly stop working, there is a simple fix for that.  Yeah, you can do some nice stuff in carcols, but for average players who just want something that looks nice, they don't wanna go messing around with files. ELS makes it so convenient, literal drag and drop.  No need to learn anything unless you want to.

There are PLENTY of good non ELS cars out there,  both on here and GTA 5 mods.  Before ELS came around I had a whole text document full of non-ELS cars I installed as standalone and enjoyed using.  Only one or two actually were problematic.  On top of this, there are plenty of fivem communities that have their own private cars made, so them running out of cars is impossible.

My biggest frustration with ELS is that you can't change the controller keys, and so if you want ELS with your controller, you have to reconfigure everything around the ELS controller keys.

This. This and the fact that the AI is broken as all hell. I want traffic to react to me, but the "slams on the gas no steering" is game breaking to me, as well as controller support.  And then I have to go into the settings and turn off the AI functions. That's no fun.

Yeah, I suppose. But I also disagree with "there are plenty of good non-els cars". Many of them are broken and do not even have proper LODs. Many of them scream low effort on behalf of the author, just to be the first ones to release cars when we could finally mod them. Yeah, carcols has a learning curve, but literally so does every other way of installing mods. You just have to get familiar with it.

When ELS dropped, more diverse and better quality cars came out, because ELS was easier to work with based on experience from IV. On top of that, "there are plenty of fivem communities that have their own private cars made, so them running out of cars is impossible." wat. Most of these are the low quality cars from gta5mods or the ones that I've mentioned earlier here. On top of that, the ones that aren't are, and never will be released.  So claiming that running out of cars is impossible is just silly.

If you just disable the AI control in ELS.ini then you won't have that bug - AI still reacts to you the same as the default game, it just is not ELS controlling them. So essentially disabling that is the same AI as non-ELS, without the 'FLOOR IT' bug. I do agree with the controller support, especially since some controls get doubled when you try to use the controller (right dpad = takedowns in ELS, right dpad = headlights in GTA, H = headlights in GTA, now H = takedowns in ELS despite that not being set in the ini.)

I don't really play GTA V modded much anymore, but when I do, I do like to use ELS. I like having multiple light stages and better siren control. However, there have been some pretty creative things done with carcols as well. I wouldn't be averse to using non-ELS if the lighting setup is unique. The biggest issue I have with carcols is the installation. ELS is really simple to install, change a model name, etc., whereas carcols can get rather confusing, especially when you want to use a different car slot than the author used (and generally I do). And then there are the GTA updates where you have to redo it all.
