Why the need for Clans?

Something happen last night that really made me think. I will ask that whomever reads this post, please do not think I am degrading or trying to stop it from happening...

Over the last 2 weeks or so, there have been many people in and out of the multi-player lobbies on the G17 TeamSpeak channel. Last night, while playing with a few of the regulars, someone came in and asked if we would like to join their group. What I don't understand is why do we need all these groups, when you can at any given time, get on G17 Teamspeak and play with a group of your choice. Seems like it would be better to play within the 3 channels they have on Teamspeak and join the team would would like to play on. Is there really a need for a captain, Sgt, officer in training, and all that? We are here to have fun. It would be nice to have one big group play than everyone wanting to control their own group.

Just my thoughts.

Please help me understand the need, if any, for there to be separate clans, where people get pissed off, have to ask for permission to do things, and have to go through a training class just to play a fun game.

See ya on G17 TeamSpeak!

Scheduled games, where you can be sure people will turn up.... Not all clans have training or ranks, for example my group here: LCResponders.tk

The group I linked to is pretty much the same as the official multiplayer group, and we only created it because the official one was shut down. It's designed to do just what you say, to have fun. It's basically a way of organising games...

Some people like to have the ranks as it's supposedly more realistic. I prefer not to have ranks though...

The idea of having a department with ranks and more so is to establish a real atmosphere of gameplay in a interpreted environment. It's not that a group thinks they're better or the need for someone to feel more important than others, but to just get that feeling of working in a real department while experiencing a bunch of different roles. Some people just have different methods of how they want to play their game and meet new likeminded people.

As many of you have mentioned, the idea behind an organized group is that everyone has a different idea about how they like to play the game. Some people's version of fun is to shoot every suspect they encounter. Other people prefer to treat the capabilities of a modified version of GTA IV as a simulation instead of a game. Each person's interpretation of how to play is completely different, and there is no right or wrong way to play.

The whole idea behind an organized community or "clan" is that like minded people can play together, instead of being randomly paired with people they don't know and can't predict their behavior.

The G17 server in itself is a version of a "clan" for organizing multiplayer games.

I'm curious as to what supervisory officers would do in a LCPDFR round.

As far as what supervisors do, the possibilities are virtually endless depending on the community and the imagination. For example, our shift supervisors are responsible for coordinating with dispatch to ensure that each call for service is answered within a reasonable time, monitoring the activities of our deputies and ensuring their safety on the streets, using their experience and judgement on when to continue or terminate pursuits in the interest of safety and justice, approving reports and paperwork (for those members who wish to simulate those aspects of law enforcement), I could go on but the point is supervisors have a very large role when implemented properly in a community.

Thank you for addressing that. Within a clan or group, I can see this working perfectly. Having never played in one, I was always curious about the roles of supervisors and how they would implement their authority.

We are the thin blue line.
