Review section needs an update!

Featured Replies

okay so it happens almost everyday..someone uploads something and it gets dozens of REVIEWS either condemning or loving the product, while the product hasn't been downloaded more than three times and it's been overlooked consistently lately. i know that members should be aware of the rules, because it actually says it right above where you post a review, but it's not working.

this is hurting the reputation of some uploaders who are trying to do business here. i am only assuming it takes a while to make something for this site and it must suck ass to come on here and see 7 people say it looks like shit and it has 0 downloads. that is frustrating to see and im sure for the uploader it's horrible. Or for someone to say "this doesnt belong here", when it's been said two or three thousand times that if it goes with GTA V it has a place here somewhere.

there has to be something that can be done to limit the damage that these crappy reviews are causing our uploaders..and possibly future customers..who read the bad reviews and move on without trying the product. i'm guilty of doing that very thing only to come back a month later and try the product and it be just fine..so that's my bad. but, the reviews are there for a specific purpose and if we are to follow those reviews, like we should be doing, then some people are getting screwed. what can we do to fix this?

i've been here over two years and the problem is consistent..and if the problem isn't going to fix itself, which it clearly isn't getting better, then we need to work on a solution. Does it work the majority of the time? yes. but for the times that it doesnt work, do we wanna risk losing our future modders because of a broken system?

Just take reviews with a grain of salt.  Many times reviews won't accurately represent a file, so if a mod interests you just give it a try (it's not like it's the end of the world if you download a bad mod).

that may or may not be the case, but the forum has rules. and people have been punished for breaking the same rules that are being overlooked now.  i know first hand what they think about getting trashed in reviews and its not just a grain of salt..to them. so if we are going to have a section that requires something to be done before a review is posted, then it should be enforced. if not, then it needs taken down and punishments issued against users should be removed.

I assume you are referring to the rule where you are only supposed to leave a review after using the mod. This rule is extremely hard to enforce, as it is impossible to know if someone actually used the mod or not. The best option is to only allow a member to leave a review after downloading the file (a technical solution, which would be up to Cyan to implement, assuming that is not already in place), then they at least have to take the extra step of downloading the mod first.

If you are referring to people asking for support in the review section, just report them. It is also extremely hard to keep track of everything that is posted on the website, so reports are extremely helpful to us. I know some people might think "they'll just ignore it if I report it" but that is not how we operate.

thanks for getting back to me :) yeah i was referring to the rule part about leaving the review after using the mod. see if you can talk him into implementing that technical solution :P i know i can report people who do that, but usually when im here i am helping someone and i just see these things as i bounce around the forum searching for something for somebody :P

Well, what is your solution? It's easy to complain about these problems, and if we had discovered a solution, it would be implemented.

Shit reviews are a universal problem on any website that has reviews, including giants like Amazon.

We've previously had reviews restricted to people who downloaded the file, ultimately this doesn't make much difference at all. The majority of people who are leaving stupid reviews have downloaded the file anyway.

Ultimately all this does is slow their review process down by 2 clicks -- they'll still hit Download just to leave their review.

For example a big problem is people posting reviews saying they are having difficulty getting script modifications to work - they've already successfully downloaded the file. There is no way we can check if they've installed it successfully.
