Wrong. No one has trucks like cfa trucks, except for our ultralight tankers which are also used by cfs

And WA. They always run in pairs in WA, always a medium and a light pumper. Livery wise probably similar to elsewhere. Didn't realise only WA did this until I moved to Canberra, gave way to a fire truck going bells and whistles and sat on the side of the road for a minute waiting for the little one... now I'm just curious why WA does it. Light tank is always immediately behind the pumper.

They do it in Tasmania aswell. Whether it's a grass fire or house fire.. they always send them out. although lately it's just being sitting at the fire station and rarely goes out (I think it's mainly used for shop runs.

Depends on the station and what vehicles are there. Most stations are volunteers so quite often its hard trying to get a full truck crew of 4 and then another 2

Tas-Where?

😜

Interesting though. It makes a lot of sense, able to maneuvre better, having that extra pumping capacity is always handy, along with the extra tools and manpower... Even just for road closures and traffic control. Oh well.  I'm referring to paid metro firefighters in WA, too. I know a lot of rural brigades use them... but in WA it's pretty much every first response metro or country is both trucks.

Side note, noticed these new 'G-Wagons' that're starting to be rolled out have a canopy thing that sits above the roof... is this just for falling object protection or does it do something?

The top plate is to protect the crews from falling trees, delwp integrated them after 2 of their firefighters were killed at harrietville when a tree fell on their truck.

But oh god, the g wagons. I think there's only one CFA one but half of the delwp fleet is made up of them, and they've all been taken offline because they keep breaking down

Thoiught that might have been the case. They look odd... ACT RFS have one. Sounds like a typical merc if they're having mechanical issues. Never heard anything good about a Mercedes.

All this talk about FD's trucks makes me miss the old beast we had in Mackay.. God she was a beauty!

PS - This is KEMP Place 501 Alpha, which was the same as my truck but it was NTH MKY 214 Alpha

Nice truck. I'm still not 100% on the QLD paintjobs. They seem very matte as opposed to NSW where the colours feel brighter and more shiny/metallic. I could be totally off on that though.

If anyone's interested, I attached a quick snapchat thing I saved before sending the other day. Average quality but in the first second or two there's a decent yelp without too much background/ambient noise that could probably be converted in to a siren. I was going to but don't have the time or patience at the moment.

Pretty sure it's a Hazard siren, NSW RFS truck built around 2012.

Haha. I started out in the SES about 8 years ago... discovered I didn't like heights, rooves in storms or tarps... Made the jump a bit after that. Yellow suits better than orange, too.

Always gotta send those response snapchats to the poor bastards back at the office after you rush out to a job.  I keep the phone away as soon as we can see the smoke though!

No bullshit, it handled like a sedan. Absolute fucking beauty to drive and it even had the old rotators which were my favourite before all of this new LED bar shit.

Our colours are a bit matte but the do havea nice shine to them irl, this photo just doesn't do it justice.

I'll always prefer rotators to LEDs. Kids these days just don't understand that unusually loud humming of the motors on the roof and the fact you only needed a couple of them with some oversized strobes on the grille and you'd manage.

The new RFS Izuzu's don't handle too badly... apart from actually having to change gears I quite enjoy driving. The old ones are pretty clunky though.

@Macgregor, double check your snapchat username, it's not working. ;)

SAMFS have the best of both worlds, they use the Vision SLR.

Yeah, ACT only kept the mini-LED bars for a year or two, using LED rotators now which I assume are Visions SLRs... I think I saw them on a few CFA trucks when I was last in Vic, too?

Also why I loved WAPol so much, the Excaliburs were so awesome.

They were the bees knees back in the day. My old beaut had the 8 rotators on the roof, four strobes in the grill and a set of rotators on the back and like you said that was all that was needed. Nowadays they are all LED christmas trees and look shit.

The manual part was the best bit for me, as they had a little more grunt in the engine compared to the slower and clunkier autos that replaced them. I used to milk every last rev I could out of each gear before changing and we used to get to the same places quicker with the manual gear box.

You'd probably want a manual tanker over an auto though anyway. Our new one is an auto and not everyone's happy with that.

maybe I got the name wrong I can't remember
