And now for something completely different:

The local police uses all kinds of vehicles: volkswagen, opel, audi, toyota, mercedes, volvo,...

The thing is, some local forces have a lot of money and can afford audi's and other equipment like a rumbler while others are having financial problems and stick to cheaper models. It does make for a wide variety of police vehicles and lightbars however.

In my opinion, the liveries aren't that nice, especially the local police.

"Dura lex, sed lex"

Our cars are roughly as quick as the CVPI, Vauxhalls police-spec Astra comes with a 1,2 diesel engine, that's the most common cop car in Britain, the Mondeo's I've linked to has a 2,5 Turbo engine that tops out at 235 kph/ 147mph.

It comes down to how the force is structured, the Astras mentioned are only "response" cars, that means that they pretty much stick to responding to 999 calls, due to the unique way the UK police forces are structured. I'm guessing it's the same story with the Prius.

BMW's are very common as well, especially the 5 series in either the 525D or 535D spec.

I feel like fleeing from the PD in Europe would be so, easy. I mean, that's a Prius..

Nicolai is absolutely right. There's just such a wide variety of cars that they are each asseigned their own duties. You won't see that Toyota do patrols or high speed chases.

Besides, if it does come to a chase, backup is never far away since Belgium is a rather small country. Our police helicopters can respond to any location in a very short time.

These are our patrol vehicles. Peugeot 307's and 308's. There are basically used for everything.

And these are our "higher" police. They are better trained and you won't see them on streets so often.
