[WIP] LAPD/LASD/CHP FPIU (2014)

Nice work so far. Hopefully you get the LASD cruiser's spec right. They went through so many test variants and versions, its hard pinning down what exactly they use as of right now. The most likely unit is the one with the Whelen bar and rambar. It would be a 'first' for GTAV modding to get the latest sheriff Explorers correctly. If you need help getting the ELS right, I'll be available to share my info.

I hate to be the harbringer of bad news, but a contact of mine sent me this.

2016 chp fpiu?(yes so glad they're not using chargers) anyways it's ok Desmond it'll take about 5 to 10 years for most of chp to get the new cruisers.

thanks!

about 2016 model, we have only one 3d model of 2016 version, and this model has very wrong geometry and need very many work with it, even without interior.

Am aware that only one exists. I believe it is a Humster3D model which is why it has so many issues according to you.

Not saying that you have to make the 2016 units, just posting this out there so that people are aware that CHP didnt go to those white Chargers. They did test a few I believe.

well, you mean that CHP doesn't will use 2015 chargers ? it's was just for test?

Yes chp I'm pretty sure won't be using chargers but if they are they will be limited.

That damn 2016 Explorer...First the LAPD and now the CHP too?

They need to relax! Desmond hasn't finished the 2013 version yet, and they're already moving onto the 2016 version?! They do look very good though, but I still prefer the older 2013 version, for now

I think it is completely legitimate for users to want what the latest model the CHP are currently using. Users want authenticity and that is what the author of the current FPUI seems to be after. I have made a suggestion to the author of the 2016 model that it could be improved. The scaling is too small and it inaccurately represents the size of the vehicle. He has chosen not to update it because of modeling issues. That's his prerogative and I certainly don't know how to model one or I would. On the other hand while the scale is inaccurate I love the lighting set up even though it's not the setup the CHP use. I made a CHP skin for the 2016 model and I think it makes an awesome version except for the size. I am just thankful to the modelers for there contributions. I don't think it's wrong to express a desire for a 2016 model. I just can't drive the other one because it's too small.

They'll have to purchase some chargers. I cant see FPIU's being very good at keeping up to speeding sports cars etc

You're misunderstanding me, I'm not saying that people shouldn't want the new 2016 FPUI. By "they" I meant the agencies which have already ordered and fitted the new 2016 FPUI's. It was a jab at the LAPD and the CHP for purchasing 2 different generations of the vehicle so quickly, bearing in mind the Ford Crown Victoria is still in service with both services. I'd be very delighted to see the new 2016 FPUI in game, in either LAPD or CHP set-up, but it'd have to be very accurate and be a high quality model, plus these have just entered service, so realistically it's much more authentic to have the 2013 gen in game since they're more common. And I agree with what you're saying about the existing model for GTA V, both the size and set-up need to be accurate for me to fully enjoy it. I suggested to thehurk for him to do an LAPD variant, with the valor lightbar, but haven't had a response.

Actually the fpius are just as fast as the chargers and considering the charger is a naturally asperated v6 And the fpiu is a twin turbo v6 the only thing the charger really has going for it is less turbo lag (because there's no turbo) which equals a minor acceleration difference (by that tests show less than a second). And also in a conversation with a chp officer he said that he actually really liked the fpiu more than the charger because the charger was really unstable in pursuits (but keep in mind that was a 2010 charger so things may have changed)

Also you can read about the new cars here

Oh, imagine a misunderstanding over the internet ;). I am actually quite new to LSPDFR/GTA. I spent years in the flight sim world where real world acuarcy is paramount. This comes from third party vendors that strive for complete realism. I understand that the community is made up of authors who work hard and donate their time and energies for the good of the community so I have no right to demand perfect scaling. The authors may have a different guiding principle. I would hope this discussion would spur on developers to model vehicles that represent the real thing as closely as possible. I know that there is another author who has posted a preview on YouTube for a 2016 model but he claims people have stolen it and he is never releasing it so I guess I have to be happy with what is available, even though my pedantic nature will be left wanting.

Hey Desmond here's a lasd pic I took this afternoon.

Thanks for the pics, they help me in my non GTA mod stuff too.

Do you have any numbers as to the ratio of Explorers (or other new vehicles) to the remaining CVPI's in the fleet?

The Chargers were apparently test supervisor units. Im actually curious that Ford allowed CHP to test a Dodge product without making a fuss about the contract. Google search brings up this forum.

Lots of discussion there about it. Pros/cons. This isnt the place for it though since this topic is about Desmond's Explorers.

The good news is with the LASD version, you can reuse the Setina bar from the LAPD Traffic unit. This sheriff unit will require its own set of custom modelling though due to differences in ELS., I wish you the best in doing it and I'll be here to help you with identification.

Sure glad to help. I don't really know to much about lasd you might want to ask either Lundy or forsakenbacon17 for more info on lasd (i know mostly lapd and chp).  As for the chargers I agree that this isn't the place for discussion but I have a feeling ford didn't make a fuss because they're pretty confident about their explorers.

If you're asking about ratio of explorers to vics in LASD, it's pretty slim. I've talked to a couple deputies about it, and I think the explorers are rolling in pretty slowly. Two of the stations I know don't even have any, and I've only seen 1 before. I would assume that the stations more in-the-city (Hollywood type area) are getting them first. Most of the stations have a whole fleet of Vics, and a couple Tahoes and Expeditions.

Basically, there's a lot more vics than explorers. Depends on the station though. I'm sure more will come soon.

You mean compton type areas.

This might be a litttttle bit off topic, but it seemed like a good place to ask since a bunch of you in here know LAPD and LASD pretty well...

What's the deal with LASD and Whelen? I feel like I'm seeing more and more LASD units with Whelen lightbars (including a Charger with a Liberty). Do they have a new contract? Is that what they're going to keep using going forward? What's the pattern like on the Legacy's?

And just so this post is relevant... Desmond, for your LASD FPIU, will you be using the Legacy, or will you stick with the Arjent?

Either way, love the FPIU, use it all the time (it's one of my main police slots right now), always looking forward to see your progress!
