I just had the same error after following all of the steps.  You're not alone.

***UPDATE: Found solution in this thread.  Basically, you just need to install an older version of Social Club:

I got it. I actually just figured it out and came back to correct my post. Thanks for getting back though :D

@LukeD and friends.

Excuse my ignorance, but I need to ask.

I did the tutorial and I'm playing the mod normally, if I install the new rageplugin, using the old version of the game I will have problems? Or leave as is?

Yes you will have problems. You need to use the version the RagePluginHook that corresponds to the game version.

Thanks very much!

For your experience you recommend leaving like this or upgrade?

I recommend upgrading only when the majority of your favourite mods have been updated as well.

Can I just delete the mod when an update roll out and after the game updated,re download it? And if so,what files do I need to delete in order to uninstall the mod?

Doesn't work the way, LSPDFR is not the issue, RPH compatibility is.

You can revert to an older game version if you back it up.

Wow, I just found such a good fix that hasn't been discussed before.

Okay I have the CD version.  So the only original fix for me was going into the firewall on the computer and cutting connectivity.  That was discussed on the first page mid way down with a youtube video.  That worked for me and should work for all CD versions.

So here is the problem with that.  I go to play today and out of nowhere the launch says, "It needs internet connectivity to make sure I have an activated copy."  What?  So Rockstar has even implemented a way to get us offline users to continually have to still sign-in every once in a while.  No way man!!!  So here is what you do.

From day one I installed the game properly including latest patches.  Then I literally made a copy of the entire game located at another area on my hard drive.  Both folders are identical.  Then do your version of breaking the internet connectivity mentioned.  Then I installed updated on the main version that I want to currently use, but don't touch the backup version and Its works great.  Here is where you get around the forced "Must make sure you have an activated copy."  I went back to the backup version located in another area of the hard drive and signed in and fully updated that version.  Then I came back to my normal modded version and it started right up and bypassed the activation.  Yay, That was awesome and worked perfectly.

So in other words.  First do the internet connection thing for whichever version you have (steps on first page), then install the game a second time as a backup somewhere else.  This will allow you to play the game in offline mode.  Then when you are STILL forced to activate your copy, just keep update the backup version.  This will activate and check your copy and login account.  Then go back to your untouched modded version and enjoy normal play.  I'm so happy this worked.

Hey guys, so in my last post I found that way that works really well, but Rockstar has still found a way to infiltrate into my computer.  Every time there is an update, my game will not automatically update and will be in offline mode, BUT it won't even let me play unless I activate my game.

So, this is now an activation issue.  I have had to active my game many times now and every time there is an update through my ways discussed up above.  But, this last update hit me hard and now I couldn't even play the other offline version.  So I had to do the replace .exe files idea which worked.

So my guards is, is there a way to fix the activation thing so I don't have to keep activating each time an update comes out?

I figured out a little work around for Rockstar's forced authentication, which seemed to be hitting me every two or three weeks.  It's the age old trick of changing your computer's system time, to just after you last authenticated your account.  This will save you from having to do the above steps and downloading the new patch every time Rockstar wants you to activate.  I use this trick for the Rockstar version btw, not sure if it will work for Steam.

Thank you so much.  I was just hit with that today and it worked perfectly.  Remember to set the time back when done because your internet browser and other things on your computer require correct date settings.  I was locked out of my yahoo email until I realized changed the date.  Changing it back worked perfectly fine.  Thanks for this.

Also, does this mean for now on every time I want to play GTAV I have to change my date every single time?

Most likely, but it's so much easier to follow the steps above and create a back up.  When an update happens, just throw in your old copy and you're good.

But this sometimes removes my old files such as the add on car I was working with and it takes about 30 min to do its downloading thing.  I would be invested 45min just to try and play real fast.  So changing the date each time might be the way to go for me unless there is a more solid fix.

It shouldn't remove add on cars unless you're throwing the update.rpf into mods-->update.

Last time I did this everything was still there.

So using your method I should be able to "rollback" my game version right? I have the CD version. So I'm thinking if I do an install without connection to the internet and then copy that somewhere that'll give me a super early version of the game. My only problem then is accessing the updates one at a time until I get to the version I want. I'm trying to get to RPH 45 or 46. I'm on 49 now and I have a backup for 47 but stuff is still buggy. Anyone know where I can get an older copy of RPH and if it's even possible to update the game in sections? Even if I have to toggle the internet connection on and off I'd be willing to give it a try.

I have since updated my process to where I never have to update or activate ever again.  Its quite simple really.  All you do is the first firewall step.  That keeps the game in offline mode, but Rockstart every 2 weeks requires authenticating your copy.  Its hard-coded into the files of the game, so there is not stopping it.  But what you can do, is as soon as you see the authentication message, you just roll your system clock/calendar back to the days that last worked properly.  Then restart the game again and select offline mode and it will start right up.

To do this you click on your lower right corner clock on the windows desktop. Then click the words "Change date and time settings".  Then click "Change date and time" button.  Now move the date back to the last time that worked without having to authenticate.  I am currently using date Oct. 24th 2016.  You will have to do this every time you play the game from now on.  Its a bit of a hassle, but worth it to me to keep all my settings and files without having to roll back every time, update new files, and go through that craziness every 3 weeks or so.

I have Ragehook version 47 with game patch 877 and everything works perfectly.  I would suggest using that combo.  It also has the most LSPDFR mods.  Good luck.

Here is a question regarding preventing automatic updates

Has this been consider to tried out before?

I have not personally tried this, but would changing either the game's folder properties or file properties on some key files by right clicking on the folder or files and selecting the Security tab and change the permission settings to deny to prevent the files in the folder from being overwritten during a forced update work?

Has anyone tried this method to prevent forced GTA5 updates?

Below are some images of the Security tab options

Image 1 - Right clicking on GTA5's Game Install folder > Properties - Security Tab
