NYPD Common/Well Known Vehicles

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

So, what my question is, what are the 7 most common/well known NYPD (ground) vehicles (cars/4x4/vans etc...) you see in New York (real life)?

I can not answer this question myself due to me living in Australia, so any help would be greatly appreciated as I am deciding on what vehicles I should have in my game, while I am trying NOT to add any more vehicle slots...

That's a list (which a picture) of most if not all of the vehicle types the NYPD use =)

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

CVPI

Impala

Charger

Taurus (probably)

Ford E-series van

Their SUV (Explorer and/or Escape)

Radio Emergency Patrol

At least, that's what I think of. If you ask a normal person, they'll answer "er, the cop cars? Maybe a SWAT truck?"

 Okay, thanks. :D

What does the NYPD use the CVPI's for? Just "normal duties" and/or Highway Patrol and/or something else...?

And, what light-bar is normally seen on a CVPI?

I really don't think they have a most prefered vehicle. Although from YouTube vehicles the CVPI, Impala, Charger and their SUV's seem like they're their most used vehicles, then again i think it's all about where they're located, Some boroughs might use vehicles more than others.

The list cp702 listed seems pretty accurate with videos i've seen on YouTube featuring the NYPD.

They have both vehicles, for " normal duties " '>

and the one for highway patrol '>

The mostly used lightbar is the Federal Signal Vector

I live in NYC and I see a lot of Crown Vics and Impalas. I would say those two are the most common vehicles here. I see some Police Interceptors (Taurus) around but not that often.

I live near the 111th Precinct (Flushing).

I have also seen couple of brand new Fusions which were pretty cool.

From my personal experience(my recent trip to the city in December) I recall seeing an Impala once I got off the ferry, a Tuarus, a brand new 2014 Fusion, and an older last-gen Explorer.

As a resident NY-er, I'd say cp702's list is probably the closest to accurate. NYPD has everything under the sun.

For general patrol, you'll most likely see:

Impalas

Fusions of current and previous gen

More Impalas

GMC Savannas/Ford Econoline vans

Altimas

Escapes

FPI/Taurus Slicktops (Part of a traffic enforcement program, most precincts have at least one AFAIK)

FPI/Taurus (Marked/unmarked)

CVPI's

Previous gen Ford Explorers

Pretty much in order of most to least common. CVPI's are still in service, but they're dropping like flies. Many of them still have older equipment on em. One place you will still see a lot of them though (because 2011's were stockpiled)......

Highway Division:

Chargers (Marked/unmarked/slicktop)

CVPI's (Marked/Slicktop/unmarked)

FPI's are becoming more and more common, have yet to see a slicktop but there's marked and unmarked units out there.

FPIU's are also starting to become more common, though they're still far from your run of the mill RMP.

Again, more or less in order from most to least common. The Impala is probably the most ubiquitous vehicle they run right now.
