Here at school, the girls frequently attack boys if they think they are behaving immaturely. You attempt to fight back, not necessarily even hitting them, just blocking even, you're a coward, according to everyone else. You attempt to walk away, you're also a coward, according to everyone else.

In a legitimate act of self-defense, it doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman. And if it's simply violence toward another person, that's obviously wrong, but usually is treated as a crime far worse

Depends on the circumstances. If the situation legitimately calls for it, then yes. If I could handle it without hitting the person (man or woman), then I'd prefer to do it that way.       I think

Here's my view on it: If someone throws the first blow, they have revoked their right to simply walk away and use of force to the degree deemed necessary to defend myself is justified - whether it's

I grew up learning that it's never ever ok to hit or stirke a woman ever - no caveats.

Sure there may be extreme instances...you know, movie shit like Kill Bill or something.  But as a rule of thumb, no...never.

I was always taught that it's not okay to hit people. Anyone. I wasn't ever taught specifically not to hit women. I was just taught not to hit anyone.

Really? I thought this was only true for American schools.

Really? I thought this was only true for American schools.

HavIgn gone to american schools for the first 4 years of my schooling, I can say I'd much rather be in an American school right now. None of the teachers here care about that whey are doing, and we don't learn ANY grammar because the government neglected it for 20 years and now they want to teach it again, but none of the teachers know grammar.

Anyway, my point is theres a lot more focus on learning in the US than here, and my school is the highest achieving state school in Victoria. Anyway. Urgh.

A good rule of thumb for sure.  It's not OK or cool to hit or kick the crap out of someone most of the time.
