I'd say it depends on the situation, however for me, It's safer and quicker to attempt to diffuse the situation..... as an EMT responding to calls in South Buffalo... aka "a not so nice place"..... I've been unarmed dealing with people holding guns, knives, glass bottles, anything they can use as a weapon.... just because they don't like seeing flashing lights and two people in uniform walk up......  and I haven't gotten hurt because I use a professional and courteous approach.

 

Now does that mean I haven't had to tackle both men and women? NO!! but TACKLE is different than HIT, in my opinion, there's always a better solution than hitting a patient/suspect/attacker, what have you...

As has been said above, there really shouldn't be any hitting in the first place. If it comes down to it, I don't really see why not. If it is self-defence and you have a legitimate reason to hit back, go for it. Is it morally right? Perhaps not, but it is within your rights. I think it boils down to what kind of person you are. I personally do not think I'd hit anyone back. I'd defend myself, but not fight back.

I don't discriminate. If a woman poses a threat to myself, a colleague or a member of the public then I will hit her (if alternative methods of restraint can't be employed). 

My opinion, if a woman poses any type of assault (sexual, physical etc) then I don't see why not, like I always say, keep your hands, feet and spit to yourself and there will be no problem.

Some women even expect a guy to stand there and take a beating while she hammers away at his body, as if it's open season. Man or woman, you hit me you're gonna get put into some serious shit.
