Obama at the national prayer breakfast

Featured Replies

Obama has made a comparison at the prayers breakfast today saying that what ISIS is doing right now is no different than what Christians did at the crusades, basically trying alleviate the situation I guess or something of that nature. People are saying right now that it's not fair to make that comparison because the Christians weren't as bad as ISIS is today.

Bah, to me it's pretty similar, whatever was the reasons for the crusades, the result was the same: killing innocent people and using religion as an excuse to do so. Some will say "Crusades happened centuries ago", and so what? The comparison is still decent and correct. We can compare neo-nazis people to nazis, even though the National Socialism is decades old, so why not crusades (godwin point for me).

When we look at it, it's pretty much a crusade what ISIS is doing. Killing people and preaching their religion. And it's just as much wrong as the christians crusades were.

Barry stinks, and is a Muslim.  To bring up the crusades as a moral equivalency to the horrific atrocities being done in the name of Islam RIGHT NOW is disgusting and wrong...and at a Christian prayer meeting.  The crusades which started 1000 years ago...and the reformation was 500 years ago, was in reaction to the Muslim hoards that were trying to eradicate anything that was non-Muslim.

Barry Sotoro (aka BO) is un-American, and a the most hateful man we've seen in the White House since Johnson.  What a friggin' slap in the face to every Christians in the world and I'm embarrassed for all Americans.

With all due respect, learn your history pal.  You obviously know nothing of the history of the crusade if you say "killing innocent people...".  You embarrass yourself with such glib and thoughtless remarks

Thanks for your advice, but I'll stick to what I know from the crusades from the knowledge I got from enyclopedias. Now I'll ask you kindly and politely to 1/ not act so haughty and dismissive towards me, matter of respect and 2/ avoid personal attacks and innuendos. Doing so leads to you "embarrassing yourself with such glib and thoughtless remarks". I will no longer respond to you after this post because this is not the topic, I just wanted to make the things clear.

Have a good day.

Three comments in and someone starts the shit-fest. Well done. It has been discussed in other threads that topics of this nature may not be the best to post, as the above commenter has proven. With that being said...

I would hope that at some point the religion driven traditions that exist within government to make their way out. This country was founded upon secular principles and should be operated accordingly. Does this breakfast have any significance, no? But it still makes the claim that the U.S. is a Christian nation, which it is not. The majority religion may be Christianity but it is a secular nation, not a theocracy.

I'm not going to reply to any shitposts going on about how this country was founded as a Christian country, the documented evidence against this is overwhelming. Nor will I be taking part in the stupid "Obummer is a Muslim" circlejerk.

No, this country isn't Christian?  Have you been in the Supreme Court building, with the 10-commandments carved into in the rotunda inside upper walls in big 10' script?  Did you not realize that the country was founded by Christians,as most if not all of the founding fathers were Christians?

Another one whom knows nothing of the nature and founding of this country or what it means.  No this is a Muslim nation I guess, based on the Koran.  Geesh...

My lord, what do they teach you people in school these days?

I made a point, and responded to a point, call it a shit-fest if you want.  You don't like it, don't read and respond.

Oh, almost forgot; when a president, or congress, or military men/women get into their positions, they put their hand on a Bible...so I guess we're not a nation built on the tenants of Christianity.

"Sigh" This topic isn't even about wether the United States was founded as a Christian nation, plus that's not enough evidence, I'm going to need to see some sources, God is metioned nowhere in the constitution.

On topic: I saw nothing wrong with the comparison, the crusades were a meaningless war fought for some city, all the reasons the people were killed, ISIS is doing the same thing, killing people for no reason whatsoever.

No, not a Christian society per-se,  this country was establish and built on the tenants of Christianity, a society built on the notion of Judeo/Christian ideals.

ISIS is doing this NOW...not 1000 years ago, there is no comparison in my mind.  Christianity was trying to stop the Muslims then, from doing what they are doing right now.

Have you heard Barry talk like that about Muslim or Islam?  No you haven't because he bows to every Muslim leader he meets, and will not even call a spade a spade...a spade is a man caused disaster.  He had to go way back 1000 years to make this stupid comparison.

Anyhow, whatever.  All I can do is pray that good overcomes evil.

Off topic?  This is about why Obama said what he said, and I say he and his top advisers (ie Vallery Jarret) are Muslims.  This is why he vilified Christians at a Christian prayer meeting and tried so hard to make a moral equivalency by digging down 1000-years, misstating the facts of the crusades to boot!  How do you extricate the two?

Wrong, you do realize that the crusades happened over four hundred years after the city of Jerusalem, the mulisms have been living there for over 400 hundred years and these "Christians" took that long just to react to the siege, plus prior to the take over of Jerusalem, another army had taken over the city, the Sassanian army.

Also, Upon Umar's arrival in Jerusalem, a pact known as The Umariyya Covenant was composed. It surrendered the city and gave guarantees of civil and religious liberty to Christians in exchange for jizya. It was signed by caliph Umar on behalf of the Muslims, and witnessed by Khalid, Amr, Abdur Rahman bin Awf, and Muawiyah. In late April 637, Jerusalem was officially surrendered to the caliph. For the first time, after almost 500 years of oppressive Roman rule, Jews were once again allowed to live and worship inside Jerusalem.

I already said it started about 1000 years ago, and the reformation happened roughly 500 years ago...so what?

You obviously aren't paying attention to the topic at hand.

I'm obviously not quoting exact time frames and quoting "wiki" for something that happened centuries ago and is of no bearing in today's world.  Bend over and make yourself into a pretzel defending this guy...what do I care.

What are you saying, none of this is refuting what I said, you're the one that got off topic in the first place. Just because something happen hundreds of years ago, doesn't justify it.

What on earth are you talking about?  Is a rebuttal in your mind an attack?  Or is it that I simply said he's not following the point...attack?...please!  I think I made my points and stick by them as well...so again, what are you talking about?  My arguments are just fine and YOU nor anybody else can refute them.  So get it right next time.

Time to grow up and get your head out of your ass.  That's an attack.

Just kidding man...it's ok.

What are you saying, none of this is refuting what I said, you're the one that got off topic in the first place. Just because something happen hundreds of years ago, doesn't justify it.

I was not refuting what you said.  My point is simply that I'm not pinpointing the date of the crusades, nor did I wiki anything to get the details of the crusades, that's not the point of my argument, nor the topic at hand.

What I said about the crusades is simply it started 1000 years ago and ended with the reformation about 500 years ago...don't know what your dissertation about Jerusalem has to do with the fact that ISIS is committing atrocities now, and your president goes back 500 years to point out a moral equivalence.

Not a problem buddy.  We can simply agree to disagree or whatever.

Did you also know that most of the major founding fathers were not true Christians? Jefferson wrote his own Bible and argues with the established Christian Dogma. Adams did not believe in a divine being. Washington never expressed belief in God. Also, the reason there is a "separation between church and state" is because either Adams or Jefferson (forget which one) did not want any religious ideals or beliefs influencing the government. There is also no mention of God in the Constitution.

The only reason religious icons, or references were added was because many reverend or religious scholars argued and demanded that some form of God be added to certain elements of our government. Our country try was never founded originally as a christian nation.

Look, no matter how hard one tries, it simply can't be denied that the USA was founded on Christian ideologies.  The liberals in academe try, they'd rather have you believe in Government as your God, and it's working.  They, the libs, are trying their damnedest though.

Also, Washington was a Freemason, so therefore he had to believe in God...so you are mistaken.  He even wore his Freemason outfit to his first inauguration and used his Freemason Bible.  You must have a belief in God or your not a Freemason, but they have different views than standard Christianity and will not bend to the dogma of the King James Bible.

After all, the Constitution states, to paraphrase -these rights are granted by ones Creator- etc.

BTW: love the A-10 gif...pretty cool.  Just got done dropping some Mk-82s in DCS A-10C Warthog.
