So,

I live here in Massachusetts in a small town of about 4,000 people with no traffic lights or even blinking lights.  It's a beautiful little town, the people are nice and so are the officers.  We recently built a brand new police station (my picture) and it's gorgeous.  At the end of this topic you might be thinking, why did they build a police station.... but the reason is because the police used to be in an old bar below an apartment with no jail cells, so they actually had to handcuff the criminals to the bar (I'm not kidding).  Like every town, we have basically no money.  However, our police cruisers are old.  I dont know the years (I don't know how to tell by the bodies), but here are some pictures.

http://www.lcpdfr.com/uploads/monthly_01_2015/post-151108-0-88189300-1421552536.jpghttp://www.lcpdfr.com/uploads/monthly_01_2015/post-151108-0-09780100-1421552538.jpg

Two years ago the town paid $10,000 each cruiser to completely redo them so we wouldn't have any issues.  However, we only have 3 cruisers so they get a lot of abuse.  Well, this year the cruisers actually started breaking down on the way to calls, and our police actually started missing calls because of this.  So, the town came up with a plan to raise $40,000 in order to get 2 brand new FPIU (some sort of deal they got, probably cause they feel bad for us).  Because we're a town the people had to vote on this in order for it to go through (as far as I know it's a New England thing, I've heard that everywhere else isn't like us).  But, it went for a vote and ended up being 60%-40% no.  Why? Who knows.

So, the townspeople (one's who voted yes) actuallly banded together to raise the $40k on our own.  We have a town FB page, and we actually have raised about $5k, with the local bank contributing another $5k (I wonder why, haha- I bet they want the police there if they get robbed....).  But I figured I'd share this story so we can A) Realize that for some reason people don't like their taxes getting raised a little bit for one year and B) People are able to band together to make things work, even though the majority don't like it.

Let me know what you think!  I'm interested in your opinions on this matter!  What would your town have done, do you think your town would have voted yes?

(And can anyone tell me by the pics what year my towns cruisers are?)

Thanks!

My town probably would've found a way to get the money because we would have a good amount of crime without our pd(larcenies, stolen vehicles). But it's different with a town of 80,000 compared to 4,000

That sounds right to me! Haha, they really do look all the same, that's why I have no clue!

Yeah... The biggest crime we have here are smokers at our town common (park).  With your crime, I would hope that they'd find the money to get it, especially with 80,000 people!  How many cruisers does your dept have, 20?

I don't think my department would do that.  I believe that year is our newest one.  We have one from like 2004 or something and the other is like 2005 (I remember they said each was a different year).  Thank you!

What?!  That's nice...  How many people live in your town/city?  Haha, want to donate a Tahoe to my town??

I'm not sure the exact number of cars, all I know is that there are about 90 people in the patrol division.

Wow, I thought the state of Massachusetts would've chipped in. I'm from the UK so we ( the people ) don't get much say in these type of matters. What's the FB page address bud ?

On a side note, I looked at the town report and this was the breakdown for what my police did in 2013:

265 Incidents; 269 arrests; 22 restraining orders; 290 citations; 57 accidents; 9 parking tickets; 29 by-law violations; 275 firearm permits (we're like the 6th or something town in the state for firearm licenses).

12,500 pop.

Ah, that makes sense then!

Oh my goodness... Wow...  We have 5 full-time officers and 8 part-time.  And every one of those officers works in the neighboring towns on their off-days....

I would have thought so too, you know.  I was a little disappointed.  My original post may have been deceptive, the FB page is a "closed group" for members of our town, but using that we've raised money.  The way people donate is by writing a check and dropping it off at the police station.

Where i live my police department moved on to Ford Tauruses. The Pennsylvania state police has Tauruses but they have not transitioned yet.

I couldn't find an exact breakdown of my town's department. But the annual report(2013) says they got 54,014 calls, 1734 parking tickets, and 8,087 traffic tickets. They also have to cover one of the biggest malls in America, and got around 400 arrest there.

That's sick.  We want explorers because we're a rural town, but I love the new tauruses.  Even the MSP has CVPIs still...

Oh my goodness.  Hahaha, I think our total calls were ~4,000.  That's a massive difference.

Thank you!   I'm glad there are people that are actually willing to help even outside of my town!

Yes, we have 3 unmarked CVPIs because painting a car and mounting a lightbar is expensive, haha.  So we only go for unmarked.  We used to have like a 1998 marked cruiser that had our town name on the side, but that got junked.  Everything since then has been unmarked.

Haha, thank you!  Our video would be this plus an officer trying to start the car in order to get to a call, hahaha.

Yeah true, We have explorers to...

Makes me wanna design a livery for them and have them wrapped onto the cars by the business my father works at (they've done vinyl car wraps before). Just call em slicktops.

Otherwise, awesome that your town is helping out their police department. I also like to hear that the cops are friendly.

We used to have 1, but the police department gave it to the fire department when the chief's car broke.

Haha, if you do it for free then I'm sure my town would be willing to accept!!!

Yeah, I'm happy my town is banding together.  The cops are really nice here, mostly because everyone knew them before they were cops!

Do you live near the Palisades Centre? I heard that it is very large.

Cheers.
