Switching between windowed and full screen mode

Featured Replies

Hello.

In the Devblog, LMS (or Sam? I'm not sure atm) said that the next release of LCPDFR will include an option to switch between full screen and windowed mode while in-game. The post is a few weeks old so I thought that it might work with 1.0D (which came out a few days ago).

I had ShadowPlay (screen recorder by Nvidia, if anyone doesn't know) running in shadow mode to record the previous minute in case something funny happens. So, in the top left corner is a little square with a circle or something. ShadowPlay usually doesn't record the desktop, that's why there is no square if I'm on the desktop or any window.

So when I hit Alt+Enter as mentioned in the blog, the screen becomes black for about a half second and then I can play on. It wasn't really a window, it still looked like full screen. But ShadowPlay's square was gone and I couldn't record (which let me think that it has to be a window now). When I hit Alt+Enter again, the square is back and I can record.

Do you think that this is what was mentioned in the devblog?

Or @ the devs: Is it? :p

There's a way to make your game run in windowed mode that may affect your resolution a tiny bit. But if you normally get good recordings with ShadowPlay (if you have used it before), then it should be okay. (Regardless your screen recorder will work either recording the entire screen or the GTAIV window)

In Steam (assuming you have the Steam version of the game), go to Library and then right-click on Grand Theft Auto IV and go down to Properties. There should be a button marked "Set Launch Options..." Click it, and type -windowed in the box. Then OK and Close.

Yes, 1.0d does support this. Though I have only tested it on EFLC and I have no idea if it works on GTA IV as well, hence it didn't get highlighted in the change log. At least on EFLC it should work properly and you should see window borders and should be able to ALT+TAB without issues then.

Please do not PM me unless really necessary (knowing you helps). If you think you need my attention in a topic, tag me.

You can't see window borders on GTA4. The only way to see if it's windowed or not is using ShadowPlay. As I mentioned, the square in the top left corner disappears if I'm in that windowed mode.

Yes, it works without issues, the only thing is that I don't see the borders. ^^

Edit: Do I need to add "-windowed" to my commandline.txt so that I can switch properly? I think I've read something like that in the blog.

Yes, you have to. Also, are you playing GTA IV or EFLC?

I think that's what causes this. I don't have the "-windowed" command, I'll add it now. I play GTA IV btw.

Would be great if you could report back whether it works on GTA IV.

After adding -windowed the game (GTA IV) starts in window mode with a full title bar. Alt+ENTER switches it to full screen. I guess it's working as intended.

Yep, it does. I just had to add -windowed.

Never have to restart the game again after Alt+Tabbing.
