Liberty City in 1946?

Featured Replies

Maybe I'm just crazy and am thinking unrealistically, but am I the only one who thinks it would be interesting to see what liberty city would look like, say 1946? The war just ended, everybody is home and ready to start a new life. Organized crime begins to rise etc. I understand that this era has been covered by LA Noire, but I don't think it did it justice. There was little freedom to interact with the world in the game. I have seen a similar thread to this with a few links to cars from the 1940's...It would definitely take more than just cars to give the vintage feel. We would need older styled peds, stores and billboards etc. Just for the sake of conversation and whatnot, what do you think about this idea?

I had a feeling that you were a LA Noire fan by the topic name. But I think that this will make some amazing Godfather-like scenes. But I really hope that someone makes this mod in the future. With police officers, cars, buildings... If somebody makes this mod, I'll need a whole new gaming PC.

It is possible, but, the cars... replacing all the cars with old ones might be a problem. Everything else is very possible. You could probably mess with the pedgrp file and mess around with what peds spawn where. Make more peds in suits and disable the latino gangs and replace them with the mafias. Billboards and all would take some time, but it's all possible.

It would be an interesting city to say the very least. For one those massive Project housing towers would not exist.

Cheers.

A lot more green. Haven for treehuggers. And possibly a generally better place. If we could have all the same advances in medicine and technology as we do today, yet the world can still look like L.A. Noire, families talk at dinner, and just a cool relaxed jazzy life. Humming "In each life some rain must fall..." I'd feel much happier.

If you can get enough cars together (ripping the files from LA Noire maybe) and perhaps a collection of peds that suit the period, then it could happen. But remodeling the entire map for the period would be impossible unless a group of experienced modders got together to think the design through:

-There were no freeways in that era, so highways would have to be replaced by probably poor ghettos or industrial areas, with roads routed through.

- Times square area would need to be stripped of most of its lighting and billboards, and replaced with appropriate designs.

- Ped behavior would need to be modified so they don't use cell phones.

- street objects (phone booths etc) would need to be modded.

- the airport probably wouldn't be there, so a district would need to be modelled there.

- Projects housing would have to be redesigned.

So all in all, It's a massive project that would be difficult, but not impossible. How about going the other way, and importing the map from LA Noire (unless that's impossible due to engine constraints)?

speaking of LA Noire, it would have been amazing if there was a spinoff game set in that period where you could pick a class (mobster, drug dealer, cop, businessman etc.) where you could actually do activities in the world. I for one would have loved a LAPDFR game mode for that :)

Mafia 2 kinda covered this.. Empire Bay is based loosely on New York.. which Liberty City is also based on. But honestly, a criminal version would be good (we saw the legal side of the 40's in LA Noire), Although it might be classed as a copy to Mafia 2 though =/

Mafia two..

lol

But yea, Cool idea

I am aware of Mafia 2 haha, in fact I was obsessed with that game for a while. I think most of the story is focused on the 50s though. However, that could just be me...
