Newtown Victims Sue Rifle Manufacturer

Featured Replies

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The families of nine people killed in the Newtown school massacre filed a lawsuit against the maker and sellers of the Bushmaster AR-15 rifle used in the shooting, saying the gun should not have been sold for civilian use because of its overwhelming firepower.

The lawsuit alleging wrongful death and negligence was filed in state court and announced on Monday — the day after the second anniversary of the shooting, which left 20 children and six educators dead and became a rallying point for gun-control efforts.

Really people...are us Americans really this stupid...whenever something goes wrong we find the first person to sue....

Guess what, I'm sorry that Newtown happened, bu y'all don't need to sue a company who makes firearms just because it was used in a school shooting (Which they had NO control over)

I don't think this lawsuit is going to go anywhere....have fun with those lawyer and court expenses

What can you say? The parents are hurt. They want some form of restitution for their loss. It's expected.

I agree. If a crazy ran up inside of my child's classroom and killed him, I'm sure I'd be pissed, sad, wanting someone to blame, wondering why the school wasn't prepared, why law enforcement didn't get there on time, etc. It's common human emotion, and it's to be expected, especially with the loss of a loved one so young.

Your sueing a gun maker because that gun killed a family....Someone get AR 15 and shoot me with it.

Where would you like it, in the stomach or the head?

I agree but why would you sue someone [bushmaster in this case] who made something [AR in this case] which did what it was designed to do. They barely have management of gun controls and regulation laws. How the screwed up dude got the gun and used it is not their fault.

Bushmaster should sue them for wasting their time... I be right back, I'm gonna go sue the state road for paving a road that there was a car accident on.

What he's saying is, guns don't kill people.

People kill people.

So it's stupid that the family is suing the gun company, because the poor gun didn't do anything. The poor gun was grabbed forcefully and had his trigger pulled. Not his fault.

Though if I was in the same situation, I would want something done about it, too. Just like Killaz said.

(PS Killaz, you need a new name for this topic cause both Criminal and Killaz do not really work out for this topic man)

I was joking, but I agree with everything you say.

I do not understand this at all. Guns don't shoot people. People shoot people. You cannot blame the gun manufacturer for making a gun, and then selling the gun. How could they have known the gun would be used to kill innocent lives?  The gun salesman could not have known the mental state of son, because his parents bought the gun, not the son. AR-15s are very popular among professional shooters for their lightweight and accuracy, which is why they are sold to the public. Honestly, I would be less surprised if they sued the shooter's parents for wrongful death, because the parents allowed the son access to the gun.

I don't see what the logic behind this is. It's like saying if someone gets shot by a rifle that had an EO Tech sight on it. The family should sue EO Tech for helping the gunman aim better? Bushmaster is gonna laugh at this and throw this away.
