Hey guys, so serious question here.

The other day I was sitting with a friend and he was telling me that religion is something that is decided when you're 18, basically if I'm 17 or younger my faith or religion is decided by my parents or guardian and that I don't get any privileges.

I'm 16 right now, am I not old enough to decide on wether or not I want to be religious or non religious?

You can be any age to decide any religious preferences. I've been a relaxed Christian for 17 years. If I didn't approve of it or disliked my faith, I would have given up with church and Christianity years ago, but I've kept with it despite what people say and what I learn or am put through.

The point I'm making is parents and upbringing may influence your religious choices, but at the end of the day, it's up to you to decide whether you want to be religious or not; you can be of any age to decide what beliefs you follow. Hope this has helped!

agreed :)

We all have free will. For me, there is nothing restricting you from believing what you want. At the same time you need to be mature to decide what you believe when it comes to religion. As long as you are mature it is your decision. I was raised a Catholic, and still am to this day. Now that I am taking a theology class, I am beginning to understand my faith.

Believe what you want to be believe in, it's no ones place to tell you what you can & can't believe in, I was raised Christian, but don't believe in religion, I don't believe in invisible people either, but I do believe things happen for a reason, that's as far as my believing in anything goes & Karma, I take that attitude to work every single day when I see some of the things I see (doesn't bother me as much), religion & how far people will take it hurts my brain lol

Whenever Jehovahs Witnesses show up to my door I tell them I worship Satan on Sundays, I often do not get any responses :woot:

Am I an Asshole for doing that? absofuckinglutely, do I want to be bothered by people that sell religion? nope, I do not, is it fair for people to bother me about their religions when I don't bother anyone about not believing in invisible people? nope, sure isn't.

Do what makes you happy even if that means go to GTA IV Modding Website for religious questions........

I basically got forced lol. Its funny, my family is hardly religious, but I was forced to go to a private catholic school for 6 years, then Sunday school for another 5 until I was Confirmed. When I complained, they would tell me that after that I could believe in what I wanted lol. I guess it just depends on the family.

A religion is based on YOUR beliefs, somebody choosing for you but you don't believe in that.. then it wouldn't make sense, you can't be forced into religion.

Take me for example, I'm atheist.. so it wouldn't work for someone to force me to be Christian because i don't believe in their religion, nor do i think God exists. being religious is about what YOU believe, not what other people believe.

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

I left the Christian denomination parents are affiliated with when I was 10 years old.  I joined a different Christian denomination at that age and have never looked back.  Age has nothing to do with your religious preferences.  My advice is this: pray about it (if you choose to pray), carefully consider your options, and don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe in.  You will always face opposition and criticism, no matter what your religious preferences may be.  You may have to "wrestle" with some religions before you find "the one".  Follow what your heart and conscience tell you is right.
