The modding world

Recommended Posts

Just some random chatter :) well, we all started out as beginner's and what not, i would like too know what everyone thinks about modding :)

in my opinion, i love modding, vehicles and/or textures (even tho i use all of my own ;)), people take alot of pride in the model's/skin's they make for other's enjoyment,

but then you also get some of the extremely rhude and ignorant wannabe modder's that think they know everything about modding, which kind of wreck's even going on a mod site,

feel free too let me know what YOUR thought's on modding are ( I appreciate honesty, NO ignorant remark's or comment's please) or i'll gladly give you a -1 :D

I LOVE Modding!

Basically, thats it.But still its something more.I NEVER use my own modifications as I literally hate them so much,I can't even manage to live with them for 2 days. And then, yes, there are some modders who think they're the Gods of modding. And that applies for the non-police modders too.I won't name anybody (one reason for that is there are multiple of them, not a handful of 'em). But I'd like to refrain from being dragged into any topic that's about them (not their mods) and their habits.Even we see people like these in real life, who cross that *thin* line between smartness and oversmartness immersed so much in their pride which eventually grows up to transform only into attitude/ego.

Hey,Slimory! Good to see ya back, lad!

I like the creative aspect of modding, but it's very time consuming. The truth is, if others were making high quality textures/vehicles/mods that I wanted to use in my game I probably wouldn't have ever started. When you spend more time creating rather then playing it makes less and less sense. The fact is though I have very different preferences from everyone else so I ended up spending a lot of time learning how to do things so that I can use it in my own game. It's amazing to me how bad my original textures were a year ago and what I can make today. So for anyone new to making anything for GTA IV, just stick with it and keep reading as much information on as many sites as possible. You'd be amazed at what kind of easter egg you find tucked away in a small obscure forum. I've seen many talented modders come and go, but it's nice to see new guys coming up with great mods. The community continues to expand and I think it'll be a great year for new police mods.

Well said,RR.I just hate the fact that I spend more time modding my IV than spending it on enjoying those.I just keep on going.Greed.This mod, that mod.I keep collecting mods.No time to enjoy 'em.

Thank's Dhruv! :), from what i've noticed when i signed up too this site sometime ago, the site is expanding big time and it's good too see, i won't even post any files on GPM anymore cause the site is ALWAYS down

@Dhruv, i do the same thing, download a mod just too see how it looks in-game, i think if it didn't take 10 mins too boot th game up it would be more enjoyable for sure! :)

I do enjoy modding to a certain extent, but the only thing I've managed to do is make a new mob for minecraft, and even that didn't work..

I'm more into mapping / scripting.

For instance, I'm currently learning the basic's of Pawn so I can create my own gamemode for a sa-mp server

@Harper, do you make skin's or model's for GTAIV?

Not at the moment. when I say mapping I mean in terms of SA-MP maps etc.

In my perspective it is pretty cool having the ability to mod, the only issue is that with modeling you tend to get bored, sometimes so bored you abandon projects for months, not that everyone is like that but its impossible to keep going without getting bored, unless you are a begginer that may be still learning to mod, in that case it may be fun.

As far as I know scripting may be the most difficult of them all, its trial and error all the way. Modeling on the other hand is usually cool to see the outcome of what you've done, i.e. you've made a model and you're proud to see the end result and show it off a little bit.

Then there is texturing, the best way to start off modding. There are tons of different texturers, basic, advanced, pro and I can go on, I even started my modding with texturing, later on I moved to modeling with Lt.Caine's help.

Although some of what I've said may be a bit off topic, its the basics to enjoying modding. So in theory, a begginer will enjoy modding more than a older modder.

I tend to get pretty bored but I still enjoy modding, I do it for the end result.

You know what Kevin, even texturing gets boring sometimes.Especially when creating texture packs lol!

I agree with Dhruv! you can only do so much with texturing, even finding new way's too get creative tend's too get.... a little hard on the head lol i think it's gotten too the point people just redo the same textures someone else already did too up them, hell i've noticed some car skin remakes with just an extra line or 2 lol

Nah, you can't compare making textures with making models :P

It's often so damn annoying, exspecially with the RC20, some people know what I mean...

I actually like modding. First what I did when I got my first GTA two years ago, Vice City, was installing some new cars and peds. Now I'm making my own mods and I really enjoy people like and use them. But as Kevin said, it's damn boring.

I often noticed I just added another lightbar on a car and some days later I want something different. I hate that, exspecially because I always need all of my cars and peds fit each other, I guess I'm making (at this time I almost only use my own cars) new mods more often than playing.

For me, the politics of modding is the worst bit. It was just all too obvious on GPM, you constantly had modders being banned for the most pathetic things, like way back when FOwner (who made some of the best damn textures and images) was banned after he played on their SA-MP server for a bit and got in a police chase where he evaded them, then posted images of him evading on the site which was called slander by daedaelus, and we were all told that it was "seriously damaging to GPM and hurtful", so he was banned because of that. I can't help but remember the PMs that Caine and I sent each other afterwards - we couldn't believe how an upcoming modder like him was so unfairly banned like that, and despite our best, collective efforts, we couldn't do anything about it. Then there were other incidents, like bxbugs and yakadafi clashing over claims that yak stole a mirror or something equally pathetic from one of bugs's cars (which got him banned, and it even got the member yakadoshi banned, despite the fact that they were completely different people (indeed, I campaigned for yakadoshi to be unbanned and he's now staff over there)). Sadly I also remember the times when it felt like we were forced to choose between bxbugs and yakadafi on GPM, which was the actual phrase we used during discussions, and I simply couldn't help but think how much better the modding scene would be if the two would be able to co-exist and work together, but the power of ego always seems to prevail. Then we have the whole AlecDurbin situation, where he thinks he's the best modder in the frickin' world, not withstanding GTA. Really, the sad reality is that he is, excuse my French, a complete prick, and to have someone like him completely dictating the GTA SA modding scene was hard to put up with, especially when you saw him threatening to ban people for posting negative comments about his mods, as well as the countless times that he claimed something to be his and banned the original author for stealing. Then you have a bunch of people who let all of this happen (I banned Alec more than 5 times from GPM, and every single time he would go into teamspeak, suck up, and get unbanned). And then there was that day when I was on holiday in Paris, I was checking up on things on my iPhone, and I see Alec flaming and trolling once again on the forums, so I warn him against it, he calls me a faggot, dares me to ban him, and tells me "sense you fail that bad". Enough was enough, I tried to ban him once and for all, but that just wasn't going to happen, and it is at that point where I decided I was finished with GPM and I just kept on banning him until I was banned myself.

The sad thing here is, those are simply the more memorable incidents from my time at GPM, they don't do justice to everything that happened over there, and I certainly can't say what goes on over there now, but even by simply checking up on things every so often, you can just tell that it is not, and never will be, the great community orientated modding site which Caine devised a year and a bit ago.

Why didn't you chose to refrain from all the drama--Just don't care about it? Why did you chose to involve yourself in it,from the very beginning? Why didn't you avoid the scenario?

I joined GPM because I was a modder. I wanted somewhere to release my work, and collaborate with others. I was given 'developer' status, and there simply came a time when GPM updated their site, it corrupted their theme, and seeing as I know my way around IPB and skinning, Caine asked if I could help. I fixed up the site, he invited me to become a permanent member of the administration, and I just tried to do my best to make GPM the best it could possibly be. I honestly believe I did just that for a good 6 months, but when Caine became more and more inactive, I became more and more isolated, and eventually there came a point where Caine wasn't there any more to support me, instead, people like Alec had the power, and obviously when you have someone who's trying to make a difference, that doesn't go down well with people who want everything for themselves, or those who are on power trips.

At least we don't want you to go the same way as Caine. He was a precious gem which GTA community lost at that time.

Sounds like GPM should just die, i don't really go there too often anymore cuz either the site is down, or they don't put my work back on the site, it's frustrating, and on facebook if you say something completely honest, BUT the truth they remove the comment, i think LCPDFR is a great site, most modders i've chatted with on the forum are very respectful too other modders and there work, but some can be annoying, like the ones that want you too team view them too install mods for them.. now THAT is annoying, or the ones that download the World Trade Center mod because they think they can destroy them, EXTREMELY disrespectful, honestly there should be a rule about age on mod sites, i'm 22 and just started modding early last year, i love it, and don't want anoyone ruining it for me, i'm also a smoker, so it takes my mind off of smoking for a few hour's :)
