Help with GTA IV acting glitchy and crashing?

Featured Replies

Hello. I just recently did a fresh install of LCPDFR v1.0c yesterday to hopefully fix issues with Wouters/callouts+. I deleted all LCPDFR files and reinstalled it and replaced the settings the way they were again. The game crashed for no reason, so I started it up again and the same thing happened. I was patrolling around during the day (Time: Afternoon, Weather: Sunny) and noticed that it was lagging pretty bad and then immediately following that, the game crashed (same scenario for the second time around). I don't know why it did this, so here are the .log files. I was hoping I could get some help to resolve the error issues in LCPDFR.log and/or the other .log files. Is there maybe an update that I missed for .Net Framework or Microsoft Visual C++ Redist and maybe that's why the game is crashing like this?

:excl2: To the Community Team: :excl2:

Just know that this is unrelated to my last support post about wouters/callouts+ issues. That support thread is now going to be marked as solved. This is a separate issue. I am re-posting the issue here because my most recent support thread in GTA IV support was shut down and I was told that it belonged here. With the wouters/callouts+ issues the game didn't crash, just the plugins crashed. With this post the game itself is crashing just because I'm driving around.

Maybe this is caused by my graphics card not being strong enough to handle patrolling at that time of day?

Thanks guys for your help.

***P.S.- Every time I play GTA IV I re-post the three updated .log files.***

Those are the net framework and visuals needed to play LCPDFR. Could you post a screenshot of your GTA IV directory? Maybe there's something in there causing an issue, also what type of Graphics Card do you have

My Graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M.

Screen Clippings (A total of 93 items):

It seems like you have a lot of stuff in your directory that could be causing an issue. If you have an ENB in, sometimes those files in your game can put a load on your card and it'll cook your graphics card and eventually crash, could you try to play it without an ENB and see how it runs?

I don't play with an ENB. They tend to screw up my game a lot. Every time I have ever put one in I had to re-install the game and every single mod completely because the game would never start.

I do have spark iv and simple native trainer. Are there files in there that look like they belong to an ENB? If so, which ones? Also, would it hurt if I tried re-installing the .net framework and visual c++? It can't screw anything up, right?

I'm not sure if it would cause any problems, but it looks like you have SparkIV installed in your GTA IV directory. Uninstall it from there and install it somewhere else.

Where else could I install it to? Would it still work or screw anything up?

You can install it to it's own directory, anywhere really. I have mine in the same folder I store all the mods I have downloaded. It works no matter where it is installed, but GTA IV might see the files and be...confused if they are in the main GTA IV directory. Like I said, I'm not sure if it actually causes issues or not.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

Install SparkIv to it's own unique folder in a suitable location (Such as program files) and run a shortcut to the .exe from your desktop would be the best bet.

@Will having it installed into the GTA Directory shouldn't cause any issues at all, GTA IV will only load files it's told to load, scripts get loaded because another script tells it to load and so on and so forth, nothing should be telling GTA IV to load any of the SparkIV files, but it's best to play it safe.

@OP Can you please post your ScriptHookDotNet.log file?  If there are any crashes low down they will be recorded there. It seems to me that LCPDFR isn't actually causing this crash but we will only know with this file for certain.

So then I could just create a folder in there called "Spark IV" and put all of the files from it from the main directory in that folder, right?

I updated the 2 advancedhook.log's and the lcpdfr.log and added in both scripthook.log's. I just reinstalled spark iv in a folder in my program files x86 folder in the 2K games folder (same folder the main gta4 folder is in).

As I suspected. No issues regarding LCPDFR crashing lower down.

I would strongly advise you wipe your GTA IV directory clean, reinstall GTA IV and then only install the latest version of LCPDFR.

Then try to run the game again. If you have no further issues with random crashes we can safely assume it was a combination of mods causing the crash. You can then go ahead and reinstall each mod one at a time to try and see which was causing the issues.

I also notice that every time the game crashes or I decide to exit it, I get an MMA10 or SMP10 (or something like that) error. What could that mean? Maybe there's not enough video card memory or something like that?

You'll get an "Out of memory" error or similar almost every time you close GTA IV with LCPDFR or other mods installed. That is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. GTA IV was never designed to cope with mods, and as such it causes it to "crash" when you exit the game. Completely normal, mine does it too, as does most people's.

SMP60 error is mostly related to high poly vehicle models in the game. Again if it happens when you close the game, ignore it. If it happens while playing, try swapping out for some lower poly models (or no vehicle mods at all) and see.

I believe there is a pinned thread in the GTA IV support requests forum regarding the SMP60 error.

Yeah, usually just when I exit. If the game crashes I don't think I recall it giving me either one of those messages, just it crashing.

As for uninstalling and re-installing gta 4 and mods, I'll back up all mod files, wipe the gta 4 main directory empty, reinstall the game and the latest version of LCPDFR, and then just put back in the mods I backed up, right?

I plan on getting/customizing an actual gaming laptop (http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8278-clevo-p170sma-p-6984.html) with a GTX 870 graphics card & 6GB video memory by next summer anyway (and Core i7 processor). I would assume that with that laptop GTA would hardly ever crash...

If you only install GTA IV and the latest LCPDFR THEN run the game and see how stable it is. If it works fine, start re-installing your back up mod files.

As for your laptop, the one you have now should be ok. Video memory doesn't drastically effect scripts unless they heavily rely on spawning models. The thing which kills video memory (and causes graphical errors/crashes) is high poly vehicle/ped/weapon models.

Technically incorrect about crashing. It can run GTA no problem at all, but the second you install a mod you will risk the same instability chances that everyone else risks. The problem with GTA IV is that it is very unstable once modded, so it is a matter of chance and being clever about managing what mods you use as to how stable it remains. Some people get several hours out of it, some get 10-30 minutes of gameplay. (I myself get about 5 minutes, but that's because I test my own plugin rather than play)

Okay. Usually when I re-install it, it ends up fixing it somewhat. It's just so incredibly time consuming..

Well, that laptop will definitely boost game performance through the roof, won't it? I mean, now I have to be so careful as to what I install into the game because it lags terribly or won't work at all even with graphic settings as low as they go. That gaming laptop should be able to handle ENBs, and mods/scripts, and stuff without all the lag, even with the graphics settings up high, right? I mean, I'll take the crashes every once and a while, of course, but definitely much less than it would with the laptop I have now. The capacity of the graphics card on that laptop has to count for something, right? It's specifically made for gaming and an elite one at that. Even though GTA 4 is an extremely unstable base when modded, it should still be a great game performance with that laptop, shouldn't it? I'm just shooting for the best possible game performance and I'm sure there is much better than what I have now. I want to be able to have all the stuff I have in now (and maybe even more) and the laptop being able to smoothly handle it with no lag (and like I said before, of course the occasional crash here and there). Maybe when GTA 5 comes out for PC and lcpdfr and things like that are developed for that it will be much more stable that gta 4 is when modded.

BTW, you seem to really know your stuff. How did you get to know all of this? Experience I guess, huh?

I just want to report: I just patrolled around in gta 4 and it didn't crash. It ran pretty smoothly, although there were a couple of times where for a second it kind of froze and I thought it was going to crash and it didn't. The only error I encountered was when I tried to make an arrest after a pursuit where lcpdfr 'encountered an error' and it said to 'check LCPDFR.log'. I didn't see if it worked after that (I stopped playing), but I played a total of about 45 minutes crash-free like I have been before I posted this support thread. Also, wouters ran pretty smoothly and worked right (for one call) for the first time since I installed it. I think moving the spark iv files made it run better.

Yes it is time consuming but it typically clears all issues.

As for that laptop yes it will be much better playing on that than the one you are currently on. But again, you'll still get crashes every now and then if you don't manage your mods correctly.

And yes through experience mostly. I have a decent knowledge of computers as it stands due to the degree I'm currently studying, but most of it is just down to experience.
