What is a template used for?

Featured Replies

I probably sound like an idiot but what does a template actually do? I ask because I put some liveries on my cop cars but they didn't work. I'm going to geuss that a template applies liveries to a certain car? I honestly have no idea, and I'd like to know, just while I download a template pack for all my cop cars

Template is useful when You want to create Your own paintjob no matter if it's a police car, EMS car or even drift car.
Later You import Your new paintjob to Your car via a tool called SparkIV for example.
I attached a picture to show You what I mean.

Er... to count the model's polys?

In all seriousness, its where the vertices of a model are mapped so you could find and paint them according to your liking. The mapped vertices are thus called "UVs" (wherein U and V depict an address of a model vertex in 2D space). In plain language, its used to paint skin on models.

So i get the idea of them but if I tried adding skins to cars using sparkiv, and on the multi livery cars, it didnt work, and on 1 car, it was all off. So would a template correct it?

Aww damnit, I realized I didnt save the textures on the cars

Not really. Each skin is made on a template, and that template is for a specific car (A Crown Victoria or a Dodge Charger for example). If a skin was made on a 2011 Dodge Charger template, then it will only work on 2011 Dodge Chargers, if you try putting it on a 2006 Charger, or on any other type of car, then the skin won't work at all.

You need to make sure the template is the template for the right car. Let's say your doing a cvpi, you need to find out who's cvpi it is. If it's a shaefft,or dsf model. They use different templates. Usually a car will come with a template in the download so you can see which one it uses.

Thank you, so basically, a template is used to show where certain textures would go on the car ingame, Thanks so much.

Yeah, the charger was wrong because it was the livery for a 2011 and i was using a 2008 model

Say you are using one of kinsta's cars, he has his own template that he created and uses. If you are using one of Bxbugs123's cars, he has his own template he created and uses. If you make your own skin for a  car on bugs' car, but you use kinksta's template, it won't line up right and will be all out of whack. Make sure whatever car you want to make a skin for, you use the template that came with it.

Yeah, I realized that the skins I downloaded were for CJ24's LCPD Law Enforcement Pack, so I got it and put in the liveries, BUT I can't change them, so on my CVPI I am stuck with my Algonquin livery, and the SWAT Truck with Bohan, Charger with Broker-Dukes. It says that there is 1 livery in the trainer, but I have put 4 on my CVPI, Charger and Tahoe, and 1 on my SWAT Truck. Is there a way to change it

Here is the Vehicle.ide

police, police, car, POLICE, POLICE, VEH@STD, VEH@STD_RI1, 100, 999, 0.2345, 0.2345, 0.2, 2, 1.0 ,1, ext_requi+ext_strong+livery
police2, police2, car, POLICE2, POLICE2, VEH@STD, VEH@STD_RI1, 100, 999, 0.2348, 0.2348, 0.2, 2, 1.0 ,1, ext_requi+ext_strong+livery

I probably should have mentioned, I don't want to create a skin, I just want to apply downloaded skins onto my police cars, so I can use Area Livery Mod.

I'm not 100% sure how the +livery thing works, but it looks like you have it right. I'm not sure why it isn't working though.

I believe +livery just spawns the car with a random skin instead of just having the same skin as every car that spawns.

So would I remove it, or would I need to add another 3? What would I do

what do you mean add another 3? Another 3 +liveries?

Well, yeah as I have 4 liveries per car, Would that not randomize the liveries, 4 times, or would taking it away, allow liveries to change and Area Livery Mod to work?

+livery will randomize all 4 skins, if you take it away it will only use the first skin,I think. Also I'm not sure about the Area Livery Mod.

+livery allows more than one livery to work on the car. I don't think ALM will work if +livery is not one of the flags, since the game will only load one livery. When it is used, a random livery will be loaded on the car when it is spawned. ALM will then change the livery based on the location depending on how you configured the ALM.ini

Simple Native Trainer may still only show one livery when there are multiple liveries installed. I'm not sure how people have made SNT realize there are more than one.

Alright, I'm saying because I spawned in my CVPI using SNT and it gave me the Algonquin Livery, so I went to start LCPDFR, game crashed in the police station (don't know why, just got ZLIB20 error), so I will try it again

May have found a fix. I found another thread on a similar issue on this site, and it said to change the default livery in the trainer.ini to 9, some said to 0, I will try it on 9 and if it doesnt work, on 0
