The Wasteland - callouts for Bohan

Featured Replies

Well, I have noticed that everything works until I put the "Police Scanner" files into the LCPDFR/Audio/Police Scanner. As soon as I do that, I get the "LCPDFR has encountered an error" message the second I go on duty. Do I have these in the wrong location?

Located toward the bottom of the LCPDFR.log is where the problem has occurred. I tried ~reloadscripts several times and have tried to restart the game so I'm thinking I have the audio files in the wrong place or something. Maybe I installed them incorrectly

I opened the Audio/Police Scanner file after downloading, highlighted them all "TWradiochat", and dragged them into my LCPDFR/Audio/Police Scanner folder. Was this correct?

  • ---   That aside, it's great to see this mod released to much critical acclaim. You've done some great work here, LtFlash, and I cannot commend your efforts enough. :)

  • The mod has reached 10,000 downloads. Thank you!

  • I think this is just the kind of work Robocop needs in Liberty City. Great work!

not sure why, but I am always getting something like "an exception has been handled properly, a resource does not exist". I get this all the time, such as after talking to a mugged complaint or receiving a gang related assault call.

It's not caused by the mod but it happens every time the script is not able to create new ped/vehicle/another resource due to eg. hardware limitations. Try to lower your graphics settings, cars density etc.

Move the folder called "TheWasteland" with all the audio files to "Grand Theft Auto IVlcpdfrAudioPoliceScanner".

The hierarchy of directories is implemented in the installation folder, you just needed to unpack the installation folder into the GTA IV location and everything would be placed where it should.  :wink:

Yep, that fixed it! Thanks LtFlash. Hey uh, second unrelated to the mod question though... How would I disable the standard chatter? I like the chatter your mod offers more :)

Great to hear I could help. I suppose LCPDFR.ini doesn't let you turn the built-in radio chatter off but you can try to move all files named "RANDOMCHAT_[number].wav" out of the "PoliceScanner" folder (eg. by creating a backup folder inside of it and moving there all randomchat files). Please have in mind that the so-called "radio static" works only in Bohan at this moment.

these callouts are awesome I just wish they were for all of liberty

Thanks for your kind words. I've seen your comment in the download section and probably you've seen mine, I posted something about expanding my callouts to another boroughs and today I can reveal more...

Developer diary

I'm preparing the 1.0 version which will be the stable version (the current one is a beta version, some features are turned off, another limited in their functionality etc.). The next months won't let me work on anything complicated (= time consuming) I'll focus on creating a class that will manage and deliver SpawnPoints on basis of player's location as a foundation to create an expansion of the mod to another boroughs. Sounds easy but some technical details make it pain in the ass.

All spawn points will be picked manually to get a realistic feeling while playing, I think it will be more than 1000 spots only in Algonquin which is my number 1 on the expansion "roadmap".

You can try this: DisableRandomPoliceChatter=True in the [Main] section of the LCPDFR ini.

"Work and ideas get stolen, then you keep moving on doing your thing."

O boy! I finally had the opportunity to try the newest version today. I have only played the first callout that popped up and I'm having issues with it so I just alt+tabbed out and rushed here to report.

Report of a person lying down in the street. I respond to the scene to find a person lying down on the ground with two beggars watching over him. I do as told, press F12 to call an ambulance. Much to my surprise, my character calls for a bus. Weird, I thought. Dispatch lets me know that there is no 'bus' available at this time. 5 seconds later, they inform me that the 'bus' is on the way. Cool. So the ambulance is on its way and for half-an-hour (literally), I'm there waiting for it to come find me but it doesn't. Suddenly it screeches to a halt across the street and stands there for eternity. I go up to check and I see only the driver sitting there, adding up to the jam. The paramedic had either escaped the ambulance somehow or the driver must have drove away without actually waiting for his partner to get in. Either way, it was useless standing there. After that, I went back to my original position and noticed that initially a two-man crew watching over the drunk guy has transformed into a 12+ strong army. I tell all of them to evacuate the area but they don't listen. So I arrest a random beggar and call for a prison transport vehicle. They arrive shortly afterwards and run up to the beggar in the crowd. The handcuffed beggar still doesn't budge and stands their showing his ultimate loyalty and integrity. So I get a hold of him and escort him to the prison transport vehicle. This where the nightmare begins.

Much to my surprise, the officers who arrived in the prison transport unit join the sight-seeing crowd and refuse to leave. The guy who I just arrested got inside the prison transport and then came out of it again, to re-join the crowd. Then I see hordes of people at the end of the street moving towards the crowd to join it. Panicked, I fire two shots in the air but to no avail. I retreat and order them to evacuate the area but they just keep walking towards me. I take aim, blow the brains of some of the people in the crowd but they still keep coming at me. I shout at the scanner, "DISPATCH, WE'VE GOT A ZOMBIE SITUATION ON APPLEJACK STREET! People are getting infected with a horde-forming virus outta nowhere!" I take out my riot shotgun and empty the entire magazine into the crowd. Blood spilled everywhere but more and more people just join the crowd. Some people sitting in their cars freak out and try to flee, but as soon as they got out, they're infected with the virus too and instead of fleeing, they turn back 'round, start slowly walking to join the crowd like they're hypnotized. By that time, I had almost shat my pants. My cruiser was parked very close to them zombies so I rush to the ambulance to attempt an escape, hoping that my partner would follow me, but alas! Even my partner is infected. Thank goodness I left in the ambulance, reached the police station, went off-duty and alt+tabbed out.

Flash, you've created one hell of a callout there, man. Hats off. It injects a new life in GTA IV. The mighty LCPD vs Zombies. Niice!

That story, WOW! Zombies attack in Bohan might have been a great mod  :teehee:

I didn't modify that call except of debugging. Your problem was caused by the ambulance that got stuck. In such situation you can do two things: 1) hop in the RMP and go help the paramedics to go through traffic, 2) press [End] to finish the call. I'll add a rule that exclude cops from joining the crowd.

Try the call once more and you'll see how it works, have in mind that you can stop any callout by pressing [End] (by default). Unfortunately in the next couple of months I won't have enough time to make any major changes to the code (eg. check IsVehStuck) so you gotta handle such situation yourself eg. by finishing the call, detaining the vic and driving him to the hospital (a bit of roleplay).

Thanks. Maybe it was just me. Maybe I should've handled the situation more effectively but since I only get to play LCPDFR every once in a while (due to my hectic schedule), I'm just not used to handle script-related blunders like these. And I swear I didn't know I could have ended the callout. It was fun though while it lasted.

  • 2 weeks later...

Really love how those callouts are organized. Just responded in my unmarked Stainer to a potential drug deal with siren off, and called in some backup just to be safe (LCPDFR usually has a small army with rifles on that callout). To my surprise, backup also appears siren off, and drives to the waypoint with me. We split up, I turn in the alleyway, they turn other side, and we start searching. I see the guy, he sees me and runs for it! I follow him on foot, he turns the corner and - SURPRISE! - there's my backup unit standing behind the wall and taking him down with a taser shot! Damn that was so realistic.

Another one: we had a 'man with the gun' call. When I arrived projects police were on the scene asking for help. We charge and see two guys in this stupid gang clothes. Project cops jack one, put cuffs on him and then the other guy takes a gun and starts shooting. That was really unexpected so I shot him so I could wonder without interruption.

I also noticed in man with the gun callout that if NPC arrest the perp they don't put him in the car and they just stand there, and I can't arrest him too.

And in the paramedics require help call if you beat down the suspect and call for an ambulance they don't treat him.

And finally in the fighting callout you can't stop them from fighting until you beat them to death...

Not complaining or something, this really doesn't disturb too much, just provide some feedback :D

You got lucky. My game broke after that incident.

@Hastings:

Such stories are biggest compliment, they are like real cop stories and realism was one of the main concerns = mission accomplished  :wink:

I can share one of my experiences from Bohan as an autopromotion:

2:00 AM - mugging vic is calling from Fordside. Responding to the scene, the vic is OK so we go canvass the area. There's completely noone on the street, no cars, no pedestrians, only the yellowish light of street lamps. I see a guy on the Switch St and know it must be him. I stopped the RMP in the middle of Wilkins/Switch (first person mod ON), gun drawn. Getting closer to throw him against the wall and search when he turns to me with a gun, missing the first shot. I managed to kill him despite my shaking hand on the mouse. That was goddamn scary and totally unexpected, with the first person mod the world around you become much immersive, especially when someone is shootin' at your character in the creepy South Bohan.

1) "Man with a gun" - I can't tell why the suspect isn't transported by NPCs (it's probably because he's too far from the street). I know the problem from the beginning but can't get rid of it. Let's treat it as a known bug.

2) Paramedics who call for your help won't even treat each other; when one of 'em get injured another one is like "fuck this, I'm outta here" :teehee:  - the only thing I can do is to make them help each other. To treat the perp you need to call another EMS team because extending number and complexity of tasks for peds spawned by the script make more room for bugs, problems etc.

3) Street fight callout is already modified so such issue won't be a problem since 1.0.

I need such feedback, complains you call it, because GTA works differently on our computers + I'm not able to test all scenarios. Keep 'em comin'!

@Troy:

Could you post some more details? I don't have any crashes from my script.

No, thats completely unrelated, Flash. Or at least I believe so. It was merely a coincidence my game crashed right after the Zombie outbreak in Bohan, thanks to your script. Perhaps the game wasn't ever designed for the zombie storyline so when it branched out outta nowhere, the game tried to trigger/execute the mission hierarchy for that; failing to find any it might've just crashed.

@tz71:

In the future - probably yes, I can't tell when exactly because an academic year has started (= I've got almost no free time). I've got a prototype class that will serve a SpawnPoint on basis of player's location (you will be able to configure the patrol area) and it works OK so I guess you'll get the expansion of my callouts someday  :wink:

@Troy:

hahahahhaaha, maybe your GTA got zombified too  :tongue:

thatd be awesome for instance in manhattan there was a vehicle fire the driver just abandoned the vehicle, theres a video of it on youtube im not sure if a callout like that is possible since fires don't last long....there can be a person walking in timesquare with a knife/bat or something like that theres rarely any callouts in timesquare, some ideas

I actually meant that I did call an ambulance, and the LCPDFR crashed right after... Sorry for no log, I'll try to recreate that situation and see what comes out.

About creepiness in your callout, yeah. I can never beat the terrifying story of a zombie virus, of course :) The 'homeless harassing LTA passengers' call at night. It's dark, it's foggy, and lights are dim. Total emptiness on the platform except a dead body lying right on the rails. No signs of homeless people or any people for that matter. I'm confused a bit - what can I do with a dead body on the train path? All of a sudden a train approaches, then departs - and I see on the other empty platform a creepy-looking hobo with a red arrow above him. He stands there and just be looking at me. Then he turns round and slowly leaves. Watch your back at nights on those empty stations, friends. He's still out there.

  • Author

Ahh, I'm kinda ill and my understanding might be reduced xD Try to replicate the situation and post a log excerpt, it might be a problem with a ped ownership or an independent exception caused by another script.

I wish we could have a script to drag bodies, so in such situation you could drag him out the way of a train, call a bus/coroner to get rid of a body. Then you enter the RMP and think to yourself: "shit, what I've just done"...  :ninja: #Bohan

Either way, it looks like some people (including myself) are having much fun with your script in ways it was never intended. Who knows your script might spiral out of control one day and end up on steam like DayZ? Long shot, I know I know...
