What Siren Is This?

Recommended Posts

At 3:46 in the video, the Dodge Cornet pulling out of the station. What siren is it, and is there one available for download?

btw, see this movie, it's the original "Gone in 60 Seconds". The acting is terrible, but it's got one of the best police chases in movie history. Plus it's real cops playing the officers in pursuit (with the exception of 1-Baker-11)

I'm sure that the siren is being used in many movies.

Unfortunately I don't know the name, but I found a video of the siren (sounds the same):

Maybe there's someone who uses this sample to create the siren (if it's possible).

Thanks! I like that little yelp, how you can hear it "scoop" to the pitch. Maybe someone will recognize the siren. If I knew how to make a HORNS thing, I would lol.

It's not as difficult as it sounds to create a siren unless you don't know how to use programs like Audacity:

* Import the sample

* Pick the wail, yelp and other siren parts

* Loop them correctly

* Make it louder (optional)

* Convert the file from stereo to mono

* Export it as a wave file

* Import them to the HORNS.ivaud (GTAIVaud is a good one to do this)

And you're done. Sounds a bit difficult for the first time, but I just tried that a few minutes ago and it worked, but the siren had a low quality (due to the video I used) and the wail loop sounded a bit checked off at the end.

Maybe there are other samples (with a higher quality) and people who (properly) know how to create sirens will pick them. It was the first time I've created a siren, so the issue with the wail loop might be fixed easily.

Huh. Well I'm studying sound engineering (mostly recording bands, but I did do some classes on sound design and movie sound effects). I might have to give this a shot. Thanks!

No, the vanilla siren sounds way different. The siren is very popular in movies and TV Shows, I think it's copyrighted by Hollywood, but I am probably wrong, I love how it sounds though. I have heard it in almost all police movies/TV Shows, including Rookie Blue and SouthLAnd.

Huh. It seems to me like such a vintage siren sound. Most of the "car chase" movies have this siren in it. It such an iconic sound. Funny if it's a composite siren and not a real one from Whelen or Federal Signal. It screams big block V8s and Mopar Muscle when I hear it haha.

Sounds like there's only wail and yelp in that sound effect video you linked. I might be able to do it but it'll be bit difficult to make 4 siren tones plus airhorn with it.

Couldn't you just "borrow" some other siren pieces for it?

Yelp's done and tested.

The siren isn't long enough, the loop would be messed up.

Correct for the wail, I'll see what I can pull out my hat though. Probably lint, but who knows?

Edit: Yep, nothing but lint.

I can send the yelp tone if you want, but wail's too short for me to do anything with.

I can't confirm this if I didn't misunderstand you.

I tried it the second time and it sounds like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiXet7cQg4s

The airhorn was taken from another siren and there is no priority or hi-lo, I replaced it with the yelp tone.

I'm sure that the siren itself and the wail loop might sound better with some improvements.

It's not the best siren, but it sounds fine for me.

Wow. That does sound good. I mean, you're right, it doesn't seem like a real siren, but it'll be good for some big ole' 80s Chevys haha.

I wish there was a way to get that manual "wind down" of the siren. But seeing as it would have to be a loop and you would hold that key to wind it down all the way.

Wow, that sounds amazing! I guess I was wrong. I never tried looping it, so I didn't know. Will you be releasing it?

I just released it: '?do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>> :)

I tried to cut the last part of the wail tone to create some sort of wind down, but it didn't really sound like a wind down. :P

So it's not easy to do something like this without a good sample.
